Congratulations to Ryastar, MadMike, dal, and alan slatterly for reaching 25,000 words by Nov. 15 (the half-way point)!! Outstanding work guys.

As for everyone else, I know you've been holding back, not posting your full word count, waiting for inspiration, dealing with your life, and generally keeping your novelling genius out of the limelight. You work best under pressure, and there's more pressure if you wait until today to really buckle down. You've mastered the art of procrastination. Well done.

Now that that's out of your system, feel free to surprise even yourself with what you can achieve when you really get serious. There's a world of imagination waiting to burst out of you and onto the page/screen. A cast of characters dying to come to life.
A plot ready to be discovered. Step out of the way and let it all happen.

Hey, that's not true at all--all that stuff about "the art of procrastination" and "when you really get serious"! I've written every day except one since November 1 and currently have 15,840 words. I'm taking this very seriously. I'm not absolutely sure I'll meet my goal, but I'm working hard every day pounding this thing out and really enjoying myself. My novel is peopled by fascinating characters like the Reverend Will Power and the rich shmuck Sterling Silver.

So there.

Sorry Beaneroo,

I should have posted a disclaimer to the effect that everything I wrote above was a little tongue in cheek. Your character names are great. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself (that's what it's all about), and I certainly was not aiming to belittle your work (15,000+ words is certainly a serious chunk of work). I merely was attempting nudge a few souls into buckling down to make a big push -- to surpass themselves and their own expectations. I wanted to make sure everyone realized it was day 15, because there are those among us (you excluded I'm sure) who make a much bigger effort when they realize they are running late, behind the 8-ball, etc.

If one is really wanting to reach 50,000, it's better to have the penny drop, to hit the next level of determination, on day 16 than day 29 is my feeling. But whatever feels like a personal triumph for you is what matters.

Hey, no worries! I've always wanted to use that little tongue-sticking-out emoticon anyway. My character Dick Tate would have been a lot ruder.
