You know you wanna brag. Go ahead!
I'd brag, but I just celebrated with a bunch of beer and I can't think. I'm GLAD I'm done, because I just found out this afternoon that my family's Thanksgiving will be at my place. Yikes! I plan on finishing up over the next couple weeks, but no strain anymore. Now I get to stress about turkey. Ugh!
More beer!!!

Congrats, on finishing already! I enjoyed the excerpt from your novel.

I finished yesterday. Well, I reached the 50K mark. I'm not quite to the end of the story, so I'll be finishing that in the next few days. Then the rewrite begins.

All right, I'll post, then, because yes, I do want to crow a little! I finished (in a non - linear sort of way) on Saturday night. I was so happy I didn't have to resort to adding a bit about Mike the Headless Chicken, which my friend John threw out there for me -- instead, Neil Gaiman's pep talk reference to the stone wall carried me home to 50,000. I found the nano experience to be so freeing -- loved it, loved it, loved it. Not sure I'll love my novel when I read it in December ...
Congratulations, everybody, and keep on firing, those of you who are still on your way.

Wow. I've just got to say how impressed I am that y'all are finished.
And so early! I'm looking at the next ten days and thinking, oh good,
I have two of those days off; I'll write ten thousand words those two
days and get finished by the 30th!
Maybe I'm not embodying the prinicple of non-editingness like I should
be. But, relatively speaking, I'm letting it all roll out. Usually I'm
so picky and slow.
Oh well. I just hope that I'll be able to post to this thread at some
point this month.
Cheers!

I know, I'm Lil' Miss Perfectionist here, so the temptation to stop and read through is like a coffee addiction. My hands start jittering, I so want to edit. But I'm pressing on to get this actually finished up. Then December 1st I am so back to chapter one and slicing through the crap.

That's exactly how I just finished!
I wrote scene that were so dreadfully awful, that if anyone looked at them, they'd think I was an idiot. I have characters that popped into my novel at the beginning that vanished because I realized I didn't need them. My writing style is horrible, very passive, and boring. But I just kept on saying "I'll fix it up later," which gave me the permission to forge ahead without worry.

Just bumped over the barrier...with lots more to write yet tonight...and all day tomorrow.
Some of it I'm pretty proud of, and some of it really sucks. Like they say in the movie biz, "I'll fix it in Post."
Well, off to write some more. Oh yeah, I actually posted an excerpt this year. It pretty much works by itself, and even might make a little sense.

I can't believe I did it! I still have to wrap the story up and give it the proper ending it dserves, but wow! I would never would have done this on my own. I even like the story I wrote. Now, maybe I won't be speaking in phrases with so many adverbs...

Right, that's the 50k - now I just have to finish the story!
I have another three chapters and a prelude to write so I think I should be actually finished at around 57k, maybe even 60k depending on how verbose I get. And I should get that done by month's end too.
And I will brag - this has been a great NaNo for me. I knew the setting and the characters going in, and I had reasonable chapter outlines. My goal of more descriptive text has been reasonably successful, with the descriptions sparking off ideas that led into more plot. And the characters have been helping me, which has been a bit of a novelty!
I have still not read last year's NaNo, I am so afraid of its undoubtedly dismal quality, but I am excited about reading this one. Waiting until January is going to be hard.
Still, I have more to write, so onward!

DONE !
And it came to a nice close too (I thought I'd hit 50K and not complete the story itself).
Actually have an epilogue and it tied the end together really well, I think.

I broke 40k last night, and was going to use today and Friday as my big days to finish things off. Unfortunately, I found out today that I have an infected wisdom tooth, so they're all coming out at 8:30am on Friday, which means I only get 29 days for my novel, and now I'm scrambling; it's going to be a long night but hopefully I'll still be able to make a legitimate post to this thread sometime this week!

I'm still behind, and my homework's not helping. Thankfully I have some nice, juicy time to get stuff done tonight. Thank goodness for block schedules--I can shove homework assigned on Thursday over to do on the weekend, and have all that day and Friday to blast words out. During the day I think about how horrible my story is and think, "So maybe it's crap, but it's glorious crap, and glorious crap with a purpose in life." Then I feel happy and I want to write again. ^^

Whooo Hoooo......
It's my first year participating and I am so happy to have reached my goal, even a couple of days early which is wonderful because Friday I will be attending the Davis Cup and won't have time to write.
What a wonderful experience this has been. It all flowed so much easier than I expected. I came into this with nothing, no outline, plot or characters just the slightest notion of what type of novel I wanted to write. The story was just there, I felt like it wrote itself except for the last couple of hundred words which were admittedly squeezed out.
My little boy is particpating too and is 546 words away from his goal. What a pleasure it has been to share this experience with him. We'll remember it for the rest of our lives.

Congratulations to Every One Who Also Finished!!!
I reached 50,413 words at around five a.m. on Monday, November 26. I 've basically been taking it Eagles easy since then, even treated myself to a massage for my aching shoulders, upper back, forearms, wrists and hands. This is an amazing breakthrough accomplishment for me because I have never been able to finish one of my one book ideas before, not even as a rough draft. Thank you, NaNoWriMo! And Thank you Portlander NaNos. It helped to know that there were at least 399 of you going through the same process at the same time. We ARE going to celebrate somewhere together, right?!

Hi HealingHands -- the TGIO gathering will be Saturday, Dec 1, from 4-6pm at Chance of Rain Cafe. See the TGIO Details post for, um, details. You also should have gotten a regional email about this yesterday -- is your profile set up to get emails from the MLs?
Congrats to you and everyone else who has already won!

Woo Hoo!
I just finished up from a very long writing stint. I wrote over 10,000 words just today to finish. Chris Baty was right in his blog entry where he stated that at the end it's like a marathon, you can see the end in sight and you just keep pressing on to get there. I didn't expect to be finished tonight at all, and was planning out when I was going to write in the next couple of nights, but I am so glad that I finished. It's like this huge weight coming off my shoulders.
I am far from done with the story itself. I didn't know it would run so long. I think I just put in a bunch of filler. I am so pleased with the last couple of pages that I wrote though. If there were a couple of parts of the story that I had written first, it probably would have gone much more smoothly. Tip to all, if you have a foreshadowing chapter, it's almost best to write it first, though there are benefits to writing it halfway through your story. Also, as I already read in this thread, just keep pressing on. I was able to put out so many words in one night because I just kept typing the first thing that came to my mind without going back and fixing it, even if it did conflict with something said earlier. Something that helps the word count is by improving and explaining away that conflict. I did that twice and it actually ended up working out with the story.
Congrats to all that have finished, and there is still plenty of time for those of you that haven't. I have faith in you all. If I can do it amid a frenzy of activity at work teamed up with school and loads of homework as well as trying to keep my social life up to par, then I believe you all can do it as well. You just need the confidence and faith in yourself. Cheers to you all. And I hope to see you all at the TGIO party on Saturday.
For your reading pleasure (or just to torture yourself, you decide), I have posted the last chapter as an excerpt on my profile page. Bear in mind that it is completely unedited and written out as it came to mind (it did not come out at all as I thought it would when I started it) without the use of a spell checker or anything on. Also, I am not the world's greatest author, but that's what makes this month so great isn't it?
Cheers to all!

I've hit 50k and have barely made it through the first fourth of the story. But last years NaNo story was the first novel I ever finished and I have the drive to finish this one as well because I can finally let myself write the whole story before going back to edit. Sadly I have to work during the TGIO party so hope you all have fun! Congrats to everyone that finished!

Congratulations to everyone else, winner or participant.
Hope to see you all Saturday.
