Is anyone else really lagging? I'm finding myself tired and a little bored of writing. I know that I need to finish and need to push myself but I'm finding it hard. I've got about 36,000 and I'm losing the will to write. Does anyone else feel the same?

Hey, that's why I ended up quitting.

I heard that those in the Birmingham area who drop out are executed on November 29th (but not before being rectally ravaged by an Ostrich).

I quit because I was already WAAAAAAAAAY behind. Judging by your wordcount, I'd say keep going. Even if you're not enjoying it you're too close to the goal now to fall short. It reminds me of a time (forgive the lack of detail, as the memory itself is rather vague) when I *almost* won a sack race by a mile and I tripped not too far from the finish line. It took me a wee while to get back up, and by that time some of the other racers had overshot me by a meter or two.

I was GUTTED. Point: If you slack now, you'll regret it in December.

Thanks OddButInteresting. I know I'm really close to the end and that I should just push myself to finish just need to find that motivation to carry on. I think the problem is that I've got so much material that I know I can't write what I want to in the 50000 word limit. Which I'm finding very frustrating.

Lol! That, for some reason, sounds exactly how a writer would respond to the original poster!

As for my response: I do know what you mean about feeling bored of writing but I haven't got to that point yet. When I did NaNo in 2005 I hit November 28th and suddenly felt so incredibly bored of writing that the last part of my submission was really hard to write. The fact is though, you're well over half way and to get your motivation back just think about that and why you started NaNo. Did you want to achieve something you hadn't before? Do you want to become a published writer? Have you had an idea for a book in your mind for a while and taken NaNo as the way to kick start your writing?

Whatever the reason, think on it and...*drum roll*...don't write for a day. "What is this, madness?!" I hear you cry. But no, it sounds like you need to recharge yourself. So for the time you would have spent writing in one day, do something else - go swimming, see friends, have breakfast in bed, eat ice cream with sprinkles on and read a book...whatever you want to do! :)

I hope you get rid of the boredom, I know how much of a hindrance it can be!

50,000 words isn't the limit! It's the minimum. To complete NaNo you need to write at least 50,000 words, not a maximum of.

Both the first time I did NaNo (in 2005) and this year, my work won't be anywhere near finished at 50,000 words! Those 50,000 words are the first half of a novel which I'll finish writing after NaNo has ended (the same way I did with my first NaNo submission).

Last year, at about this point in things I found that I was lacking in enthusiasm and energy when it came to writing. It wasn't that I didn't think I'd finish it, for some reason I just didn't feel like it. In the end that feeling only lasted a few days though and then I found a fresh burst of inspiration and it was great. This year I hit that same point last week sometime but again, the last few days I've suddenly started enjoying it again. Hopefully you will find the same thing.

I know that the way things are going I am going to need a whole lot more than 50k to finish this thing. I'm just gonna do my best to complete it during November, but if I don't so long as I make it past the 50k mark I'll be happy.

Hope you refind that spark and enjoy the rest of NaNo! Good luck

You could always just carry on writing at your current pace - not rushing to squeeze all your material into the final few thousand words - and then whatever point in the plot you get to by 50k, just round the whole thing off with a summary of what should happen in the rest of the book in a single paragraph. You can expand this to a proper ending after nanowrimo has finished.

all 4 nano winners ive done have all suffered from 30k pain, SOMEWHERE in the 30k-40k there is the horrible sinking feeling that it sucks and that its boring to write and read, but if you hit 40k then things seem better because you are almost there, 30,000s are the bad spot, just keep pushing!

...ugh, I've been feeling this this week.

I'm on target, and all that malarkey, but to be honest, I've just been meh all day about it. It's like I want to focus on it, but can't because suddenly the rest of life is seeming neglected. And plot bunnies for other future, unseen nanos are swimming to mind like a bunch of pirahnas. Sunday's write-in is ages away, and word wars aren't cutting it. And one person I was nanoing with has quit, whilst the other has long finished.

*emos in corner* ;__;

ETA: Bugger emoing, I'm just gonna go to Bucks tomorrow and just Sit and Write for a few hours. Just as a psychological thing. Either that or decorate dad's house....

Am also bored with my story now. Can't quite recapture the spark, but I'm plugging away and hopefully all the gaps will fill themselves and everything will link together nicely.

I got sick of mine around the 27 000 mark, but it's picked up again now.

I think it helps if you just shelve any thoughts about keeping it to a certain standard, and write anyway. You can always go and edit out the crap bits later at your leisure.

This is true. I'm trying not to edit if I can help it, but I guess I was born to nitpick.
