I posted about this in the "I want to quit" thread, but I will relay the information here, including how it pertains to the direct challenge...
My story was going strong (albeit a little behind), and I was notified of my uncle passing away. Travel from Wisconsin to Pennsylvania, two days of memorial service and travel back was 4 days lost. I lost another due to the pent up crap from sitting through a military memorial acting as a cork bottling up my story. In short just over 3600 words from my word count are related to that and not my novel. At least the story is flowing again.
The problem I am facing now is part motivation, and part difficulty writing horror after this past week. Looking at the word war gave me this idea. It is totally up to Mr. Liaison if he wants to accept the thrown gauntlet or not.
You are anticipating getting to completion early. I am looking to simply get back up to average word counts. Currently I am at 20668 words (not including the 3600 cork words), and I have two days of hunting planned. This is where the challenge comes in.
First person to reach the goal has "bragging rights"...
ML's goal: 50,000 words
webtroll's goal: 41675 words (average word count for the 25th day)
I know that means I need to right over double what you do these next few days. In the words of John Cusack, "I am looking for a 'dare to be great' situation." ;)
What do you say? Up for a little word boxing?
If you honestly think it is unfair (say if you are already at 47000), then feel free to suggest a higher word count for your goal, or name a proxy.

Well... I didn't update my word count before I went to bed last night, so I'm actually farther along than I appeared. Right now, I'm at 42,425...
So... To make it fair, shall we see who can put down 8,000 words first? That many words gives me the big win, and puts a huge dent in your goal of catching up.
After that, it looks like there are a few more people in the community that are also just over the 20,000 word mark. Anybody needing a local to compete against for a good adrenaline surge (Laura??? Bex??? I'm looking at you in particular...)

8,000 to 8,000? Seems fair, but let's do some real motivating.
Your goal: 50000
My goal: 30000
So 8000 to around 9400... not much of a handicap, but enough to get my competitive juices going.
If there is a 20k Madison person I am up or another challenge. I am not quite right in the head after all... ;)

Our fearless leader is quite correct that I need a few more kicks in the rear to keep my word count in gear, so I'll join the personal challenge. Does that make it a twisted writing triangle?
I'm just over 24K at the moment, so we're pretty even. I'll take you on for the race to 8,000 more words! If you want to handicap yourself on this side of the triangle, feel free.
Good luck to you both, and may the most effusive win!

OK, is there a second place?
I wrote more than 8,000 words. Now I am at 38,063. whew!
Now I just need to get to at least 40,800 by the end of the night to feel caught up.
Again, sorry about the Espresso Royale morning. I got more done here at home.

No problem about that - I think it was almost noon when I saw your post anyways...
You shouldn't have any problem putting down another 2,000 before bed. When I'm
rolling, that's less than two hours' work for me.

So I made it to 30k... It took me getting someone else to field one of my events on Sunday because a lost a day to hunting and driving home, but I made it. Now I only need 20k more... hopefully by the end of Tuesday. So 5k today and 5k tomorrow... ;)
