I'm not above using cheap pop psychological tricks on myself for motivation.
One of the things I'm doing to help me get where I want to be is that if I cross the 50k line by Nov 30 I will get myself an expensive laptop/messenger bag like I've wanted for a long time now. That's right, manbag city!
The one I really want is a custom made job by Saddleback Leather, but at $500 it's a bit spendy. But I think it would be a suitable "me gift" that would carry all of my writing accoutrements.

Anyone else planning on doing something nice for themselves after crossing 50k?

Hmmm, hadn't thought yet but I like this idea. I am desperate for a trip to the beach. I've lived in SC over a year and haven't made it there yet.....
Love the man-bag!

My favorite cookie is Newman's Own Orange Chocolate Chip. I bought a bag and put it in the pantry last week.
----------WHEN I reach 50K then I will allow myself to open the bag.
It's been a struggle not to cheat. Last night when I hit 44K those cookies were chanting my name.

The prize thing never really worked for me...LOL. I have enough NaNoWriMo failures under my belt to know what works for me and not...
Last year, I think when I started I told myself if I make it...I'll treat myself to one of the official Nano t-shirts to go along with the upstate nano t-shirt I bought at the beginning. But I completely forgot about that, and probably a good thing because the "prize" idea really had been bad karma for me.
What works for me, is being more involved with the writing community. I hate that I can't be at all of the events, but I make what I can...and that's what works. Pushing other people...letting them push me. Feeding off others enthusiasm and dreams...and hopefully providing my enthusiasm (and dreams) when needed. In my sick little mind, I think to myself, "I can't quit. Because then maybe Amator or Caitie_Jo or whoever might think it's okay to quit." Sounds stupid. But like I said, it's a sick little mind.
So, no prizes for me. My prize will be seeing all of us in the winner's circle. (and I'm really hoping to see Caitie Jo there as she's been at this almost as long as I have :)
And who knows, when this is all over and I'm north of 50k, maybe, just maybe, I'll email gottabnuts.

I think the t-shirt idea is a good one though.
And I agree, that being involved with the local writing community seems to be the best thing. And its true, if you quit, so would I. :)

A batch of brownies, which I made last night. I asked for the NaNo t-shirt for Christmas (I got one last year).
And I need to spend more time with the writers' community here, too.

I lived in SC for seven and never went to the beach there... My Grandma lives down on St Simons Island GA so I always went down there. My rationale was why pay to go to the beach when I could stay for free and get free food?? :o)
So go to the beach! Have fun! You've earned it!

Well, I guess I'll have to budget for an expediture now. :)
sh1mm3r, if you want the touristy type of lay in the sun beach there is of course Myrtle Beach. I like Edisto Beach as there is a campground right on the beach, but the ocean there is pretty rough, so I wouldn't recommend it if you want to get in the ocean too much. Surfside Beach is nice as well, but I haven't been there since I was a kid.

I had imagined I would have had a job by now, but my health has dictated that I do not.
So, anything I had wanted is not a possibility at this point...
But I was going to get myself this year's NaNo tshirt if I made it, because I love the design of this year's and I felt I would only be worthy of it if I won.
Well, here I am, a winner. But no shirt. Curses! Maybe I can convince my parents to get it for me?
