I've decided that I will no longer shorten words like do not into don't and would not into wouldn't in my narration JUST so I can have a little tiny boost in my word count lol
Are any of you doing this? Or something like it, anyway?

I've heard of doing that! I do it about half the time.

yes, I do that unless it sounds completely ridiculous and lately I've been breaking up compound words like her self and night mare. It's going to be a bitch to edit, though. I think I'm going to have to retype it to catch all the grammatical errors. Ah, well, 50,000 words here we come!

It seems like everyone else sees the 50,000 words as a really elaborate rough draft, too. Maybe by next October I'll have it finished and ready to go!
P.S. I always comfort myself by remembering that no other language uses contractions the way we do. By eliminating them, we're really doing the world a service! ;)

I always think of that when I'm working in Spanish. Like instead of saying "the dog's bowl" it'll be "the bowl of the dog." Or when you read something like Pride and Prejudice and they say something like, "does not my dress look nice?" which sounds so incredibly wrong until you make it a contraction!
