Sorry, guys, but I am bowing out. I got halfway through the month and then experienced total burnout. I've gone back to writing what I was working on before (which, curiously, now appears to be working - thanks nano...) I guess I could have gone on punishing myself, but I was starting to feel ill, and as I've suffered from anxiety in the recent past, it did not seem like a good idea.

Sorry, but you gotta consider your health...

Anyway, I now feel determined not to quit my present novel until I have told the story. Just won't be thinking about word count, that's all. (OK, so my confidence is not very high at present, but I'm kind of taking it one paragraph at a time).

Also, the first weekend in 'December is pretty busy for me, so this could be goodbye...

Don't lose any sleep over it Elizabeth. This is my 4th attempt, with only one success so far. You got a lot further than I did one year, and I've been struggling this time as well. Right now I could do with a couple of hours in bed, but I've still got 400 words to go.

Nano is about more than trying to write 50,000 words in 30 days, It's about learning more about yourself, and meeting others who have similar aspirations to your own. It's not about success and failure, it's about enjoying what you do. Writing is such a solitary occupation, I enjoy the chance to meet up with other lunatics like myself. It's a privilege to be a part of it.

Good luck with your novel, but don't say goodbye. Au revoir is better, the forums stay open most of the year and there's always someone around.

Best wishes,
Chris :o)

Such a shame that you are leaving! I would normally encourage you to stay, but not if it's making you ill. Good luck with the other novel, and of course pop back here for inspiration!

I know the feeling. There's no way I'm going to get to 50,000 this year. This is therefore my first official failure.

On the other hand, I don't actually care this year. I may not have a novel but I do have a beautiful baby girl, and of all the things I've created she beats the lot hands down. (Yeah, all right, you can all go and puke now...)

You all win if you come out with something that's worthwhile. IT may not be a novel of 50k words, it may not even be something that has a coherent vision. But yeah... I'll be leading the puking chorus by providing more pithy and saccharine comments later on.

I have written bugger all since last Sunday. It doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon.

Oh rate, it's now nearly half 10, and i'm half way through the all nighter i had planned, but, as i've managed to write the ending before that irratating middle bit that wont hapen, no matter how intently i keep staring at the laptop screen, i think i've got no chance of managing to write to the several thousand words i need to finish properly in the next six days.

So, i think i shall call it a novelette. It is a pretty good half novel i created though, if i do say so myself.

My reason for failure is that i spend so much time in college and in rehearsal, and fixing the broken things in my life which ive managed too fix now, i've only managed to scrape a few hours at a time, and by then i was so tired i couldn't write very well, and the hamster just landed on my keyboard..hmm..

Not that i'm making excuses for myself, but i'd like to quit before i'm fired!

Thanks for making me write NANO!

Think i'll be back next year, with more time on my hands 'cos i'll be in uni!woo! And a new username too, now i've managed to get another email address!

So, , keep on writing you beautifull writers, you! I'll keep up one day, i swear!

Lots of ink stained love to you , Hannah. X X X

It's my first failure too. Disappointed that despite more time in my life this year, the writing just didn't flow that often. I properly gave up in my head when I realised that my highest word count in a day had been 4,500 and I was gonna have to do 5,000 a day every day to get there...!

Ah well, back next year raring to go (MA studies notwithstanding!) We'll see!
