Hello, novelists! In just over a week, we will all, hopefully, have earned that title to the fullest! How is everyone doing with their word counts? I've amazed myself by not falling behind a single day this month (though that's due entirely, I'm sure, to not being in school this year). I always find it to be a downward slope to 50,000 by this point in the month. It's not always easy, but for me at least, it seems to go quickly.

Since November 30th will be upon us in just a short while, I think it's time to start thinking about our celebration! I know there's a big "Thank God It's Over" party in San Fransisco at the NaNoWriMo headquarters every year, and other parties all over the world on the last day of noveling. Would we like to join in here in Grand Junction?

Since many of us, I'm sure, will be typing or scrawling the last few words frantically up until the very last second on the 30th, and since December 1st is a Saturday, I think the 1st would be the best date for a celebration party. Please share your thoughts about what this party should be like. Should we meet at Boders, Trader's, or Barnes and Noble like we've been doing? Would anyone like to volunteer their house, or another space that would accomodate 10-15 people? If we're not at a cafe, who would like to volunteer to bring snacks or drinks?

Please reply to this post with suggestions, as well as a thought about where to have this Tuesday's writing group (that's the 27th at 7pm). I look forward to seeing you all in a few more days, and to reading lots of awesome party suggestions! Happy Thanksgiving!

I'd love for there to be a party! And I agree that the 1st is the best date for it.

Alas, I don't think I can host it here. If anyone wants to, that's great!

One of the coffee houses would be fine, although I worry if we want to be able to be more animated than we usually are at a write-in (not sure if we will or not). What about Boston's? They have a pretty festive atmosphere, and it seems more of a party place than a coffee house (then again, I personally am not much of a party person).

As for Tuesday's meeting -- I think Trader's has the best coffee and Borders has the worst (sorry...) It's really sad because before they switched to Seattle's Best, they had excellent coffee, at least in Champaign, where I used to live. Anyway, I guess my vote is for Barnes and Noble because their coffee is better than Borders' but they're open later than Traders is (I'm more of a night owl).

But, to be honest, I'll be happy no matter where we are writing and celebrating.

Wherever we meet next Tuesday, we should have two tables. One for the rowdies and one for the quiet people, because I always feel bad when I see someone's momentum get interrupted.

As far as the party goes, I have a house, but the best word to describe it is "Bachelor." It looks more like a messy warehouse than a home, but if we really need somewhere, that would definitely be enough motivation for me to straighten up the place. Hey, it's happened before. So, I'm up for it. Motivate me. Wherever we have it, I'll be happy.

cheers!
Steve

Hi! I'm a fellow NaNo based here in GJ but haven't been able to attend any of the in-person writing sessions. Glad to see that everyone's been having a blast and ratcheting up the word counts!!

Anyhoo, I'm also a freelancer for the GJ Free Press and would like to write a feature on the NaNo phenom here in the Valley. Would it be okay if I stopped by on Tuesday (wherever you guys happen to be) and interviewed a few of you about your experiences? I'll bring along a camera as well to take some photos of the Novelists-at-Work. I know this is really an informal get-together, but I just wanted to make sure before I show up that it'll be okay.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

Thanks,
Marjorie

Marjorie,

Nice to "meet" you! I'm sorry you couldn't make it to any of the writing groups this month, but good job with your word count! It's fine by me if you stop by Tuesday, and I don't imagine anyone else in the group would have any objections. I'll post either here in this thread, or make another post in the "Colorado::Elsewhere" forum about where we're meeting Tuesday. There's also always a group at Trader's Coffee on 7th and Patterson Tuesday mornings at 10. I look forward to seeing you Tuesday!

-Heather

Hi, Heather, and thank you! Yeah, that would be great. I'll be at the meeting place on Tuesday evening. I have a one-day-a-week "day job," and this week it happens to fall on a Tuesday; otherwise, I'd be at Traders that morning. However, I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night.

Thanks again, and good luck with the writing this weekend!

Cheers,
Marjorie
