It's the Fourth Annual Fabulous Fantastical Whoop-de-doop Thank God It's Over and We're Still Standing, Bloody But Unbowed, Austin NaNoWriMo Party and Laugh-A-Thon!

What? A Party!
When? Saturday, December 8, from 7-10 p.m. (or later)
Where? Austin Visual Arts Association, 3705 Home Lane 78705
This is a small building, mid-block, on the east side of the street. Home Lane is just south of 38th, 1.5 blocks east of Guadalupe, in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Who? Anyone who registered for NaNoWriMo 2007 and has written at least 500 words, plus guest(s) (13 years of age or over). Shy persons are especially encouraged to attend..
RSVP please to lazym by PM or email (austin_tx at nanowrimo dot org)

Please include your NaNoName and indicate if you are coming solo or with a guest. Also, if you have been accompanied on your November journey by a look-look (the correct term for "plush toy" or "stuffed animal"), they are welcome at the party.
Note: This year, we’ll have art on the walls – the AVAA Life Drawing Show. These will be nude drawings.

Provided: Basic party supplies and starter food (ice, water, some liquids, some munchies, cups, plates, and utensils.)

You bring

  1. A munchy or liquid – anything you like, including beer or wine. Party food is great, and so are veggies, fruits, non-alcoholic beverages, and other healthy stuff.
  2. A printed excerpt or brief synopsis of your book (Anonymous is OK.)
  3. A folding chair if you have one. The AVAA is kind of low on places to sit..
  4. A $1-$2 donation per person, to be divided between the AVAA and the NaNoWriMo cause. (Optional and anonymous)
  5. The AVAA can be unusually drafty if it’s cold out, or a mite stuffy if it’s hot. You’ll want to figger it out and be prepared..
  6. If you are collecting Remarkable Feats, don't forget to bring your card.

Challenges – completely optional

  • Come dressed as a character or object in your book, carry something your character would carry, or wear a hat, silly or serious.
  • Read a short excerpt (4 minutes) from your book, or allow someone else to read it for you. This is not as terrifying as it sounds, and it’s good practice for your future book tour.

Map and Parking:
Folks report that it can be difficult to find this location, especially at night. The gallery is a small building, mid-block, on the east side of Home Lane. This is a short street 1.5 blocks east of Guadalupe, just south of West 38th and north of West 35th, in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Here’s a map

Carpooling is encouraged. There are about 15 parking spaces in the private lot on the northeast corner of 35th and Home Lane. Ignore the "towing enforced" sign and drive on in, then walk north to the building. There is additional parking on the side streets. Let lazym know if you need handicapped parking. There are two places right beside the gallery that can be reserved for this purpose.

Fyi, since parking seems to be a concern, the site also appears to be about a block or so off of two major bus routes. The #1/North Lamar crosses 38th at Guadalue, and the #5/Woodrow crosses 38th on Speedway. (Schedules and maps are at http://www.capmetro.org/riding/routes_001.asp)

That's how I plan on getting there.

Yeah for minors!!! I'm gonna do my best to be there, but I'll probably bring my dad along. And I won't be able to stay for long, either. But I'll be there; mark my words!!!

I shall be there with Brownies, even if it is in the middle of Chanukah. :)

No excerpt from me this year as I haven't even looked at my Nano for editing since I have started the next novel in the series. I am trying to get that one done before the end of December.

I will definitely be there, bring booze, and this year I will dress as one of my characters.

I wanna go! I'll bake a pie or something. I could use a ride, though, if it's not too far out of anyone's way, since it's dark and I don't see in the dark. My old white cane decided to stay in Memphis after Thanksgiving and my replacement got stolen from my doorstep yesterday . I'm at North Loop and Woodrow.

I think I will be there for at least a little while, if it is OK to bring the little one around! We can always retreat to the 37th street lights if he gets too noisy.

I think a babe-in-arms will be fine - It's probably we who will be too noisy. Just no toddlers or kids under 13, please.
