After a bout of insomnia resulting in my fortuitous inability to sleep for the past twenty-four hours, I just now crossed the finish line! God, it feels good. I logged in over 8,000 words today, and that didn't take me 24 hours to do, more like about five or six. So take heart if you're behind in your word count. There are seven days left -- it's not too late.

See you when you "cross over," so to speak.

Debbie

They are starting to come across that line, Debbie.

I know at least two of my buddies have crossed the line as of Thursday morning. I haven't looked today. At this point I'll be lucky if I can do it at 11:59 PM on the 30th.

Hope to see you Saturday at Peet's.

Hi All,

I made it across on Wednesday, and stil had a little more to write to end the story. NOW it is the really hard work - revisions! I'm still trying to figure out how to make the Thursday meet with Chris Baty. I'd love to meet all of you.

I'm over 50,000, barely, but there's quite a bit left to finish the story.

What is the deal re: meeting with Chris? I thought it was Tuesday.

As you cross the 50K word finish line, remember that you are not an official winner until you do the official word count validation. That is not yet up and running. It should be up probably SUNDAY the 25th or MONDAY the 26th. Until you do so, it isn't official.

Suzy, I hope you can make it out here for writing with Chris but I know there are several people that really wanted to meet him but won't be able to.

CONGRATS everyone! And thank you! You've provided me with the impetus I need. I'm telling my girls that they have to take care of things for a couple of days. They're old enough (22 and 17). They don't need me to make them coffee four and five times a day and four meals and snacks and take care of their cats and drive around town doing their errands!

I did agree to drive one to Stanford this afternoon. They have a macbook pro that I can get with my alumni price for about $450 less than at the apple store so we're running down there to grab it up today. Then I'm wriitng. I have actually gotten to write about 1,000 words this afternoon.

Now I'm setting my sights on getting to that 50K on Tuesday, maybe at the write-in with Chris!

Woohoo! Today after lunch: 50,177! I'll verify and turn purple tonight (though I have a lot more writing to do before the story is actually done.)

Thanks to everyone who came out for the San Rafael write-in with Chris on Tuesday. It was fun to see a few "new" faces, and to crank-out some jellybelly-induced fiction at a rate of about 1200 words per half-hour (with half-hour breaks in between ;) That one write-in took me from being several thousand words behind the daily goal, to being ahead of it: Never underestimate the power of peer pressure.

Go! Go! Go! All of you who are closing in on it, keep writing. Write like your life depends on it. There's still enough time to realistically churn out another ten-thousand words if you put your heart into it. I recommend: writing in spurts, ignoring things like grammar and spelling, and eating jellybellys by the handful. Make your family or your friends or the delivery guy bring you food, and write! You won't regret it.

Whoopee! I crossed the line at 50,674 and looking foward to going to the Pan Bay party tomorrow night. Are there any people who want to carpool to the party?
