I think I'm actually third from the Bristol region to have hit the big 50k but I'm the first to post about it, does that count for anything?
So here is a big pat on the back to those who have achieved the almost unacheivable and written 50,000 words in a month. (Or less.)
Well done. *hands out cookies* :)

It feels good, doesn't it? I've never managed to reach the target so early in the month before - I've been more of a last minute sprint to the line sort of a person.
Now I just have to persuade the story to end :-)
Congratulations to all the Bristol winners out there!

I too have made it. I don't think my last 1000 words between 1:30 and 2 am were my best but they got me there.
Had to be up at 6 so am now running on relief at finishing and sugar. Hoping for an early night tonight

I made 50,00 words. I just wrote a novel in a month!
The things I have had to overcome to do this (this time last week I was about 20,000 words behind and had thrown the towel in) include, but are not restricted to:
- my own inner demons
- a sensitive subject that I have no experience of
- having to be pulled out of my writing groove to go and work
- best friend's mum having brain tumor and then contracting fatal infections on top that meant the doctors gave her 10% survival chance to the following morning. Twice. The stress of which knocked 4/5 days off my writing each time. (Yes, she's still going, three weeks later, stupid doctors...)
- a stinking cold
- the prospect that I may have just taking a plotline from Hollyoaks and strung it out over 50,000 words.
- the laptop dying on monday (stupid apple should have bigger warning signs about their fucked up updates grumble grumble)
- and then finally, last night with only a few thousand words to go, my boyfriend's assistant manager announcing she was leaving, which threw me into a spiral of anger and meant I couldn't calm down until very late and hence finally crossed the finish line at 3.30 this morning.
If I had known there were this many extraneous variables, I might have been less willing to jump in with both feet. And yet, somehow, I still can't wait until next year.

I made it in my usual style - with mere hours to spare.. Well, that's the excitement out of the way for another year.
I'll see those of you who make it to the TGIAO (TFIAO?) party on Sunday evening. :-)
Big hugs and nuff respec to everybody who tried and won, and to everyone who tried but didn't quite manage it, and especially to all the people who had their first go this year. I trust we'll be seeing you all again next year.
Russ.

A big 'Hurrah!' for all of us in Bristol - whether we reached the finish line or just gave it a jolly good try. Bristol writers averaged over 30,000 words each, which is pretty impressive.
I can't quite believe the month is over. It's been a lot of fun. Here's looking forward to the TGIAO party, and roll on November 2008!
