Everybody excited? Or panicked? Or both?

I'm heading into the final few thousand, and I'm relying on the word wars to get me to the end. I had some panic when I thought my ending might wrap up too quickly, after spending the whole book not getting anywhere, but I came up with an alternate idea just in case. I might write both and let the editing sort it out. But ... I still have to make myself write. And that's getting really hard.

My son, who got his YWP green bar days ago, was really excited to get the purple bar today. In fact, I can hardly scroll the forums because he wants me to stop and let him look at every purple bar that goes by. There are an awful lot of verified winners out there!

Five more days! We can do it!

Another winner!

Just passed the finish line a few minutes ago at 50,064. Hoorahhhhh!

For those of you who are still struggling, just break it up into bite-sized chunks. I updated my word count every 400-500 words and that spurred me on to reach the top. That helped get me through each of the other times I tried it as well. I will think about the quality of this thing that I've written later. Right now, I'm exulting in the fact that I am in the realm of 50,000 words.

Good luck to everyone else. There are still five days and three hours or so left, right? Yesss!!!!

What helped me was the fact that I had a friend who was about at the same wordcount as me, so she and I were racing to see who could get to 50,000 first. (I only won because she decided to go watch a few episodes of Heroes while we were within 2 or 3 thousand words of finishing and she threatened me that if I didn't hit 50,000 by the time I saw her again I was going to be toast. lol)

Congratulations to all you winners. As the official slacker this year, I've taken on the role of cheerleader, but I will be writing tonight. I may not make the 50K, but I have a viable outline and a couple of decent chapters. Color me delighted!

You go, J! I know you can make it, unlike me, red-shirted/benched for illness this month (but still writing, nonetheless). Maybe it's because I HAVE a plot that I'm being so slow (in addition to falling asleep all the time, a legacy from my flu last month, cold this month, but almost at 100% already).

On the forums, but physically at the write-in -- ouch!
