So at the write-in today, a few of us were talking about doing an unofficial novel writing month while everyone else is working on Script Frenzy. Is anyone else in?
----------
Have you heard the news that you're dead?
No one ever had much nice to say.
I think they never liked you anyway.

Count me in!
I was just wondering, "What am I supposed to do the rest of the year, when it isn't NaNoWriMo?", since I need something like this to keep me writing.

I'm very likely in. I did talk today with PurpleKat about maybe doing scriptfrenzy - not because I want to write a screenplay, but because it might give me a fresh way to look at my novel, and focus on the dialogue in it. Either way, I REALLY need the encouragement to keep writing. And I've got the NaNoWriMo kit, if we want to use that for extra inspiration. Mostly in the form of gold stars, which worked in kindergarten, and probably will work now!

You know, I think this is a grand idea. I'm much, much more productive during NaNoWriMo than I am during the rest of the year.

I'd be into it. I might use that opportunity to finish one of my other WIP's, though. We could set up a yahoo group to keep in touch, set up write-ins, etc.

I guess technically this forum remains open for posting throughout the year and then gets reset in October, so I don't think we have to worry about that. However, I'm certainly not opposed to the idea.

What Richard said goes for me as well. I don't do SHIT when it isn't November. And I tend to flake if uh, nobody else is doing it either. So please, please, I am all for this.
I think a Yahoo group would be a great idea, actually. I'm on a Yahoo group that only goes during this month, and that one is helpful. They also hold "challenges" and offer prizes (I won twice, hee), so maybe we could do that if we need bribes.
Anyone have preferences for a month to pick? I'd suggest January (say, starting January 2 so you have 30 days, plus the 1st is always a dead loss), because god knows not much ever goes on in January, and you get at least one day off from work. Or I suppose Script Frenzy Month works too, I just don't recall when it is (June?). Actually, probably any month but April or May works for me, since those months tend to be sort of insane in Davis.

Upon further thought: we could always do BOTH months (January and June), I suppose.

I would certainly not mind doing it in January (not June--ack, it drives me insane), but rumor has it that Script Frenzy is in April this year. Thus, we would be working on it during April. (Sorry, Jen.)

I think January is too soon. We have to edit November's mess in December, and will need January to put our lives back together. I'd prefer to wait until at least February.

If we do it during Script Frenzy, then I don't have to write another screenplay (which was very very horrible and hard!).
I did check the website for SF and it is scheduled for April this year.
I'm all for doing an unoffical NaNo since i like writing with a goal and time frame. It really helps!

Okay, then what if we schedule it "officially" for April. We can always still write in January. Actually, Jen, there is something called JanNoWriMo or January Novel Writing Month. I would link you to the website, but it doesn't look updated since last year. Actually, I lied, I will link you to it: http://ymakadomain.com/janno/ But anyways, yeah. It's a little more relaxed than NaNo since you can set your own goal; it does not have to be 50k words.

The only problem with doing it in April is...what if some people DO want to do screen plays? If we do, say, February, those people could do both. Then, we could do another in like July.

As I sit here thinking about it, I'd really like a FAWIP month (Finish a Work in Progress). Dust off an old manuscript that you never finished and git'er done.

I really like that idea! I have so many WIPs that i'd love toi finish!

You can finish a WIP in JanNoWriMo. I was just checking out the website.
I was also checking out their list of ___wrimos, and here it is: http://ymakadomain.com/janno/links.shtml
The reason why people wanted to do it in April with script frenzy is because they [we] don't want to actually write a script. However I'm open to doing JanNoWriMo, so if anyone wants to do that, I probably will be, too. The only problem is that January is Winter Quarter, and I'm going to be taking tons of hard classes. April will hopefully be much nicer to me.

Ok, I'll finish a WIP in January, and maybe do another during Script Frenzy. :)

Script Frenzy is in April this year. It was my validation for 50k that started this discussion because I went, "Huh? They moved Script Frenzy to April?" at the write-in last night.

That sounds fun. Especially since I failed so very miserably this year. I could do with another kick in the butt before next November comes around.

I can't decide. Should I write the sequel to my nano? Or finish my romance that actually has like 10 or 20k already? Or my "Mommy's Survival Guide to Autism"?

You can write the one you've already started for JanNoWriMo and then start the new one in the unofficial NaNo in April.

I'd be in for this. I'm also much more productive in November - although I'm writing CRAP. So maybe I'll lower the word count so I can actually write something decent... or, better yet, a WIP! Duh.

Welll....it turns out that I might not be able to do it in January after all. I will have a contract on my desk some time this morning for the first novel I wrote (earlier this year)! Because of that, I'm going to be working with my editor to get it "fixed" and ready for print. In addition, I've been working on "The Mommy's Survival Guide to Autism" with a friend of mine, and we need to get that out ASAP. I might be ready by April, though. If you guys have write-ins in Folsom, I might show up if I have stuff I can work on without the internet.

Wow, I leave for a week and look at all of this new stuff that shows up on the forum... amazing.
I'm down for doing another NaNo, no matter how unofficial. Yahoo Groups is a good idea, but if you like the set up of the forum (look at the one at the NaNoFiMo's website), I have a site and would be able to set something up like that. It might allow for a little more diversity than Yahoo Groups (but I haven't been in a YG long enough that I have no clue how they work anymore).
So, is it going to just be us, or are we meant to turn into evangelical NaNo'ers and spread the word to all those around us?

I'm down for doing it during Script Frenzy, so long as y'all won't object if I do a script. :) I use Script Frenzy months to work on a collaboration I've been doing with my fiance.
Having Script Frenzy in April kinda sucks, though. Isn't NaNoEdMo in February? (Is there even a NaNoEdMo at all anymore?) That only gives me March to research my script. I may have to do some of that in January, as well.

EdMo is in March.
I'm thinking maybe we should (a) have a mailng list, and (b) have people "sign up" (or whatever, this doesn't have to be real official) for whatever month or months they want to write in, whether it be a script or a novel. Just to keep things straight. And just have people call dibs on whatever month they like, and then we have teams per month.
Uh...something like that.

Bumping (even thought I hate "bumping" posts). Can we uh, get something settled on this? Get a yahoo group, or Larking's page, or something? Anyone have any preference as to which (I don't as long as it's not a Google group, because Google groups pretends I don't exist)?
