I am assuming that's it's Saturday, and last I hear it is still at my house (Which Chris is supposed to put on the map, I think ;) )

My husband wants to have a cookout (Don't ask, I think he just likes setting fires!), and wants to know who is going to come.

My house is in Webster, Texas. FYI.

So who is going to come?

(And I don't care if you have actually reached 50,000 words, just trying is enough! I'm only going to make it through a miracle this year....)

I am planning to attend.

Would you like us to bring offerings of meat, sides, drinks, or desserts?

My husband wants to cook hamburgers and hotdogs.

So anything that does with that would be good. :)

What time of day will it be? If it's evening I can certainly come. If it's afternoon, maybe, and I might have to bring my 10yo daughter with me.

I'm assuming the afternoon or evening. As I'm sure some of us will be writing until the absolute last minute

Webster? How far away is that from downtown?

It takes me about 30-45 minutes from the Montrose Area, if that helps :)

It depends when it is. I would like to come, but I have a couple of other events to attend.

Hey Pata ~
I meant to post about the party yesterday but time got away from me.

I'm MOST DEFINITELY going to be there! Everyone should come - this is the last hooray. If you attempted to write a novel this November, no matter when you started or how much you wrote come on down to Webster!

I'm assuming it's BYOB - I'm bringing beer and possibly some vodka/amaretto/& Dr. Pepper - it's a great combination - trust me. You can also count on me for chips, dips, and possibly cookies. I might also bring something to grill that isn't a hamburger or hot dog if you'll let me share your fire.... LOL

SO looking forward to this party on Saturday! Should we show up around 7PM-ish? That's what time I'll be there unless you need help with set up etc and then I'll come early. Please let me know.

Best Luck to everyone on this home stretch to 50K words! whhooooo hoooooo almost time to party!
take care
love & e-hugs ~ M

I will probably come, but I don't do red meat. I imagine if I bring a slab of tuna or something, it wouldn't be a problem to find a space on the grill for it, yes?

Shouldn't be a problem for you to bring something else if hamburgers and hotdogs won't work for you.

And yes, BOYB and sides. We should have fun! :)

Has it been said anywhere what the time of the party is? I want to come but it depends on what time we are gathering. I can bring macaroni salad and Diet Dr. Pepper.

At the TGIO party it is a tradition to let authors read a chapter or selection from their book if they so desire. It can be a lot of fun to listen to what other people wrote and a great chance to show off your stuff and you can learn stuff too. For example, I learned how dragons mate and what the members of Duran Duran do in their spare time; my life has been enriched!

This year we're going to do things every so slightly different than in years past. This year we are going to limit everyone to five to seven minutes of reading. Why the limit? Well, in years past some people take the opportunity to read their book far too logically and try to read their entire 50,000 word book. Folks, it's a BYOB party, genders will be mingling, people may be meeting their future loves for the first time. Let's not bog things down with a half hour reading from one person; five to seven minutes please.

I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone has written. Now I have to go back and write - I'm still not finished and only three days of writing time left!

I have to read some of this stuff OUTLOUD?

Eep!

James is thinking about coming as well, though his book never quite took off this year.

There is always next year for him. I told him he is in charge of winning this trophy next year. LoL

Very well put, Chris!
I've been to Patalebon's house - for the First Saturday write in - and she has a completely awesome space complete with whole extra rooms for the readings. It would be good to limit your selection to a 5-7 minute passage though.
I'm SO looking forward to this party! AND to hearing a little of what everyone else has written.
I only have about 1200 more words till I'm a winner! YAY!!!
take care

Will these be PG-rated readings, as in stuff that won't sear the ears off of any youngsters who might be gathering about? If so, I may have to actually read through this junk I wrote to find something suitable.

Well, previously I've heard readings that were X-rated at TGIO parties; really wonderful stuff that grabbed your attention and didn't let go, so I wouldn't worry Michael. The readings will be open to all.

If your reading might not be appropriate for children then please make an announcement before you begin. Fro example, my announcement will probably sound something like this"

The chapter I am reading has words and subject matter that may not be appropriate for sensitive or uptight ears. If you are uncomfortable listening to a story that includes swearing, references to drug use and murder then please do not listen to my excerpt.

If you say something like that and someone still gets offended, then they should have taken heed of the warning an left the reading area.

Unfortunately, something has come up and I won't be able to make it after all. I will be thinking of you all though.

I'm sorry, but I still haven't found the address on the map. . . maybe I'm crazy, but can someone enlighten me?

Thanks!

The address is there when I looked last night (Look under Saturday events on the Houston Nano Map)

BTW: Guys, the NASA Road 1 exit is closed. :(

So you can take Bay Area Boulevard (right turn) to Fife (left turn) and then To Plymouth Colony (left turn). My house is the one by the first cul-de-sac.

PM me if you want "better" directions.

It's tomorrow at 7. And I might actually make it (to 50,000 words that is!) !

Actually, I see where Spec's confusion comes from.

If you click on the TGIO link in the left hand column it will display the closeup map of the TGIO location, but no address.

In order to see the actual address, you need to go back to the City View (there's a link at the bottom of the left column), and in the City View map, click on the correct pushpin. Of the three pushpins located at NASA Road 1, it's the bottom left one. Clicking on it will pop up the address.

Michael

. . . and Pata, do you mean left turn onto P.C. Drive? Wouldn't it be a right turn from Fife?

I'm planning to go, too, and will think of something vaguely veggie-ish to bring.

Thanks, Pata!

There's only one way to turn from Fife to Plymouth colony (So don't go where there isn't any road!!)

Even though it's unlikely I'll make it to 50,000, I'll still go to the party! That sounds like fun.

If I make it to the TGIO, I make it. If I don't, it will probably be because I've gone to another event I've been trying to get to for YEARS longer than I've been part of NaNoWriMo.

Six attempts, three "wins" -- yea, us!
