For those who set up their profiles in October, make sure you remembered to adjust your time zone with the end of daylight savings time. Otherwise you may find yourself trying to update your word count at the last minute only to find out that it's already December on your profile.

Of course, the opposite is true - even after midnight, you can doctor your timezone in a westerly direction, and the profile will go back to letting you put in a wordcount. It's not cheating as long as you don't write after midnight. ;D
