Thanks for the encouragement! I'll send the muse your way, too. I have a feeling the paragraphs I just wrote at Peet's were ideas I wrote earlier, but I didn't care. We're not supposed to reread anything and waste time, so I just put those ideas on paper. Maybe they'll be better the second time around? ;)
You can do it! You've gone too far not to finish. I did over 5,000 words yesterday to make up for the word count I didn't complete during the holiday.
I'm going to have to get ahead tonight so that Nip/Tuck doesn't ruin tomorrow's word count. ;)

No, it's not too late! You've gone too far to not win. Don't give up. You can do it. Whenever you get stuck, add a gratuitous sex scene. I managed to finish this year with only one gratuitous sex scenes (out of three-and-a-half total), so I felt good about that. :)

thanks, pinkmochi. I'm shooting for it. Tonight will be crucial. I'm not sure my novel really has a place for gratuitous sex scenes, since it's mainly about a boy and some birds, but the night's young and more desperate hours may require more desperate acts!

Continuing this tangent....
Two years ago for NaNoWriMo I started a story that was supposed to be epic fantasy. Oddly enough I found myself completely embarrassed with myself for writing a teenage girl's first masturbation scene. I struggled to keep from going pornographic because I SO didn't want to go there (geez, I'm a gay male; how did I get there in the first place, I asked). In the end I wrote something that my test readers have said was very compelling and real rather than creepy or offensive. It also broke the ice and I realized that some of the things I had planned for later in the story deserved this sort of background. Too often sex is glossed over and two-dimentional in fiction so as to maintain the taboo that is very much our own culture's and far from universal. I ended up writing something similar for a boy roughly the same age (16-18ish), though I doubt that it will remain in the story. Again, I wasn't trying to be pornographic or voyeuristic. Somehow I came to know these characters much better in the process, however. I'm determined not to let myself feel guilty for writing these bits again, even though most of the time they will be unlikely to make the final edit.
