hey guys!
I have a question. The unused buildings around the base are on the east side, right? but I never went there when I lived in Denver. Is the highway near there and can it be easily seen from all directions? I'm writing a scene aroudn there and I need someplace that a killer could dump a body and run without being seen a whole lot. Actually, my killer is a shapeshifter so what animals do you guys see around there?
Any help would be appreciated in these final frantic days of Nano. Thanks a bunch.

Hi Blenky,

Actually there is a lot of construction around there now...so really it would not be a good place, Denver is really into night construction now ( and not just on the roads). the area is pretty hilly. You could not see the highway from there.

There is the north end of 5 points just north of I-70...many of the old houses are abandoned and burned out...the few that aren't are covered in graffiti. The highway looms over the entire area and old 40th runs under I-70. Denver reconstruction hasn't gotten that far north yet...it probably will soon though. the place is a warren with many streets ending in junk yards or factories...and it's surrounded by the stock show area, the coliseum and many other show venues which have closed it in. Just south of there, there is all kinds of new developments.

But north from 40th to 50th from Vasquez to Washington is this area. I've driven through it a lot...lots of old beautiful cities with the closest thing that Denver has to the abandon blocks of St. Louis or Detroit. However it's no where near abandoned!

But if you want wide open spaces....you could try from Tower road east to the Kansas border...There's nothing there. But the construction west of that is way to hugh and going on 24/7.

The area north of five points is okay, just don't call it five points as the area with that name is being revitalized.

As far as animals in the downtown-ish area. I've seen foxes, coyotes and there are raccoons living in the storm drains. Oh yeah and squirrels...about four billion of them.

Here's a map of Denver neighborhood names (below). Five points, Cole, and Clayton are pretty good (safe) neighborhoods right now. They are heavily policed and are mostly made up of working class families.

According to the map, the area I'm talking about is actually Globeville.

I've never heard it called that though :)

Lowry isn't very close to the highway at all. The closest highway is I-225, which is about 15 minutes east. To get there, your character would need to take 6th Avenue or Alameda east through Aurora.

If I were a murderous shapeshifter in the east Denver or Aurora area and needed to dump a body, I'd go way out east on Colfax, between Tower Road and I-70 (maybe even east of I-70, there is nothing across the highway from Colfax). There's some new development on Colfax, but not much.

As for animals, I've seen foxes, prairie dogs, rabbits, a few deer, and the usual stray dogs and cats.
