Any Saskatoon Writers up for a June Nanowrimo?

I'm going to be doing a June Nanowrimo, as well as a November, just because my best friend is unable to do it in November because of too many class'. So I was wondering if anyone around Saskatoon would be interested? We could always meet at Mackenzie Cole's every Saturday morning if anyone would like. Anywho I thought I would just throw it out there for you all! :P

How are the Writers of Sasktoon doing between there Nano?? Anyone writing their masterpiece? :)
Premtive Strike

It was suggest at the TGIOP that maybe we should start to work out where and when to meet for next now. I know to some of you it might seem a bit odd to work something like this out so far in advance. Most of us are still recovering from this year.

But has many of my fellow ML's have long lamented in our own special part of the forum. Sometimes it worse than herding cats to get our writers out and about.

So I am giving you all plenty of lead time to say when where and how often.

Another suggestion put forth was to have a list of place around the city to meet and rotate them.

Which is again why I am starting this now.

The floor is open to suggestions of places to meet. This will be the first thing we work out.

So writes or Saskatoon, this is your chance to put forth your favourite place to meet for coffee or just hang out.

Keep in mind we can vary from two or three to over ten people at meeting so keep that in mind when thinking of a place.

Also just a idea. We can meet up anytime of the year. There is no reason we can't meet up and talk about writing, what we are planning for next at any time of the year. I doubt there will much time now many of us are getting in to the holiday swing. But in the new year I would be open to meeting up once or twice or how ever often before November. We could give the suggested meeting places a trial run. See if they work out.

Let me know what you think.

----------

Awards

- The "We Are The Champions" Award goes to the region with the most winners.

-
The "We Are Also The Champions" Award goes to the region with the highest percentage of winners (take the number of winners and divide by the number of people who signed up).

- The Carpal Tunnel Award goes to the region that writes the most words in total.
Montana

- The Loquacious Grandeur Award goes to the region with the highest average number of words written (take the total words written and divide by the number of people who signed up). This is calculated twice: once including people who did not post a word count and once excluding them.
Once: Saskatchewan with a stunning 36629/person
Second:

- The "Everybody Gets An Award" Award goes to any region who has not already won an award. In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, every region who participates will be a winner!
Well everyone... Duh

What happed to the "Better then Hurley" award giving to the one with the Highest word count? and if anyoen want to lend a hand on helping get the rest of the awards done I be glad to get some help.

Hey fellow Roughwriters,

I just took a quick look at our numbers (counting only the 78 writers with Saskatchewan as their home region). We have 28 validated winners this year and over 1.9 million words written.

Whether you completed your 50,000 words or not, thanks for contributing.

Hope to see everyone back for Nanowrimo 2008.

After the Party

Well four us showed up for the TGIOP. We ate good Dim Sum, we talked about our novels past, present and future. A good time was had by all. There were no stickers because I took the out my purse for some reason a few days ago, thought I have put them back but hadn't. That is ok. That just means more swag for next year.

Once again Congratulations to all who made it. To all who came close and to anyone who even wrote a few words or pages. That is more than most of the people in the world did.

I hope to see you all and others back next year.

You have a year to pass the word. To bring others in to our mad little world. In this case the saying the More the Merrier is very true.

I hope you all had fun, that is the point. I hope you all come back next year.

Saskatoon TGIO Party - Sunday Dec. 2 at 10:30 AM

I'm posting this again because I haven't seen much activity in the earlier postings.

Saskatoon's TGIO party is scheduled for Sunday Dec. 2 at 10:30 AM at Yip Hong's Dim Sum Restaurant on 8th Street in the strip mall near Safeway and Boston Pizza (just off Cumberland Ave.)

Everyone is welcome, whether you wrote one word or one million words. Come meet your fellow writers and share your November war stories.

As extra incentive, I think Raicara has souvenir Nanowrimo 2007 stickers - but you must show up to get one.

If you will be attending, please post so we know what numbers to expect. If this doesn't suit your schedule, please post alternate suggestions.

Thanks,
Region Names

I know NaNo is almost over. I got this e-mail and wondered if any of you have any suggestions.

>>

Hey there!

I'm Denton, the ML for Alberta::Elsewhere, so I thought I'd just drop a line and say hello to our neighbours. I was just talking about region names with some other people today (Edmonton = literary ninjas, Winnipeg = Nanotobans, Alberta::Elsewhere = Wrimosaurs), and Saskatchewan came up. Do you have any name that your region uses?

And if not, may I humbly suggest the "Roughwriters"? What can I say -- I'm a U of R almunus, and Grey Cup fever's got a hold of me. : )

Anyway, good luck in the game tomorrow, and good luck with Week 4!

Cheers,
The 2007 Incredible International Challenge

I'm about to post a challenge to Adelaide, so I thought I should start a thread here where all and sundry can begin cheering/taunting one another. (Should you wish to taunt them, the challenge to Adelaide can be found here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1015268 )

Of course, we're going to be kicking butt...

Oh, and for those who might be new to this, here are the awards we're competing for:

- The "We Are The Champions" Award goes to the region with the most winners.

- The "We Are Also The Champions" Award goes to the region with the highest percentage of winners (take the number of winners and divide by the number of people who signed up).

- The Carpal Tunnel Award goes to the region that writes the most words in total.

I'm issuing a challenge...

... to all Saskatchewan WriMos.

At the small gathering we had in Saskatoon for coffee on Saturday we each started talking about our experiences with the blizzard that hit last January. It was a thrilling experience for us and became a pretty interesting conversation. In the spirit of that conversation...

I CHALLENGE EVERYONE TO INCLUDE A BLIZZARD IN THEIR NOVEL. It doesn't have to be a killer or anything, but I think it would make for some interesting plot advancement. I'd love to see some quotes posted here too, once they get written up!

Reached the 50K point at 1am, Nov.15. I'm still introducing core characters -- lol! They will come into play in the next novel I guess. But I still intend to continue writing at least until this main book of the story is done.

Then End is Nigh

We are days from the end. I am a little under 5k away from 50k. I will make it sometime tomorrow. So to that end we need to decided on where to have the Thank God It's Over Party.

I am making a decision. Unless at least other three people say some where else the party's going to be at Yip Hong's Dim Sum Restaurant, on 8th street, in the strip mall were Safeway is and next to the Boston Pizza.

I am also setting the day as Sunday Dec 2. I think it was suggested last time we show up about 11 am to avoid the lunch rush. If someone could make sure of that time that would be great.

So please let me know how many are going to show up so when I get there I can get a table for us all.

This is how things are now. Unless like I said at least three others come up with a different plan.

Congrats to those who had won so far.

There are still three days left for those who are still working, you can do it.

You don't have to made 50k to come to the party. Any one who wrote even one word is more than welcome.
So see you there.

Your Novel's Title

The only thing I find harder to do than name my character's is to name my novel. This year I have come up with a name before I started writing.

During the course of my novel, my second MMC is won by the Main MMC in a poker game. So I thought I would call my novel.

The Dealer Takes Three

So, What'cha Writing! ^^

Yep, as the title states, I'm wondering what my fellow Saskatchewanians are writing for Nano this year. Whether is down and dirty stories of a more NC-17ish rating, or for anyone in general.

For myself, I'm writing fanfic. kinda cheap, and bending the rules... But oh well. The idea is as such:

Take a favorite childhood show A.K.A. Digimon.
Throw in the first mature thing that comes to mind A.K.A. Gang warfare and Small time mafia power struggles.

Throw it together, to see what comes of it. ^^

So far I'm doing good.

Is anyone going to show up at the coffee shop? If not I won't bother to go either. I can get some writing in and still take Mom to the Stitch'n Bitch at 2.

I know it's the Grey Cup but that's not until later in the day.

So really anyone coming or should we just talk about the TGIOP.

Regina Meet Up #2 - Nov 17/18

If anyone's interested in another meet up after the awesome turn out at our last one. Maybe at some point during the afternoon on either Saturday or Sunday so as not to inconvienence those who like their sleep? If we go to the same place, it turns out it doesn't really matter what time we're there at since it's either empty already or we scare everyone else off.

Sound like a plan for anyone?

TGIOP

The Thank God's it's over Party.

I was talking with Hurley before he went up to Regina last week, we thought it would be a good idea to get you guys started on thinking about when and where you want to hold the party.

NaNo ends on a Friday this year. So that weekend is a good place to start for a day. So which one Saturday or Sunday?

Where, last year we had it at Hip Hop's(I'm sure I got it wrong) Dim Sum on 8th street. It was fun and the food was good.

So any suggestions. Once again I will say this. This is your party, so you need to speak up and say what you where and when you would like to have it.

Metting this week

I know the week is almost over. But there is still Friday, Saturday and Sunday left in this third full week of NaNo.

There is a meeting set for Sunday at 11am @ Mackenzie Cole Coffee. I will be there waiting for anyone who shows up.

Is there another time or place that you would like to meet up. I am open to any time or day of the week.

Or another place. That is easy for those with and without cars to get to.

Saskatchewan setting in novel?

Does anyone have Saskatchewan as their main setting in their novel? Do you mention Saskatchewan in any way?

I technically don't have Saskatchewan as my novel setting, but my MC heads off to Alberta (the only two places I've actually been to enough to know what I'm talking about!). I think I'll make some references back to Saskatchewan when my MC calls home.

Who all would be around and/or interested in a meet up in Regina at some point? So far it's myself and Nana here and we're feeling only marginally cowed by the Saskatoon:Regina ratio. Is there anyone else around here besides just the two of us?

We're having a meetup at Exotic Coffee World Roasting House (2275 Broad Street). :] If you can't find it, remember... google maps is your friend.

The party is at 11 AM! Be there, or be square.

ExposedChaos and I will be there together. We'll be the geeks with the laptop! Shouldn't be too hard to pick out, I hope.
