[POLL] TGIO Party location

Alright guys and girls,

I've narrowed down the options of where to hold the "Thank Goodness It's Over" (TGIO) Party down to two.

1) Montana's (Next to the Southland Mall)
2) Boston Pizza (South end, across from the Southland Mall)

Both places have vegetarian items on the menu (I've checked).

I have set the date for Sunday December 6 at around 2:30 or 3:00pm (this way we should avoid both the lunch and dinner crowds)

Voting will end on November 27. Once the place has been decided then I will ask for RSVPs, so I know how many people to make the reservation for (now I'm getting a head of myself)

I challenge you to a duel! (That means you, Julie. And, well, everybody else too.)

So I am very competitive. Julie is as well. I like writing clever-sounding, confusing things. So does Julie! What about you guys?

k, here's my challenge:

Every day, I'm going to be posting my favourite sentence that I've written for nano that day. I'm going to try to make it clever-sounding and confusing. Then Julie might post hers! Maybe. If she looks at these boards. I don't have her phone number. Oh well. I hope somebody else will join in. I'll bully Zach into it.

BUT ANYWAY then I will read everyone else's sentences and say mine is better.

This is the game. Yay!

At the end we might vote or something? Dunno.

Mine for today:
It started with a table, which is certainly a pretentious thing to say.

You can top that, come on, give 'er your best shot.
----------
With enough war elephants, anything is possible.

Follow your fellow Regina-ians!

I know we already have the introduction thread, so hopefully this doesn't overlap that same purpose. But I know that many online communities are more fun when you have people to share it with, and I'm always excited to find NaNo friends on other sites!

(I'm also bored with four posts and two days of total Saskatchewan inactivity, so consider this an attempt to revive awesome conversation. :D Not just to creep on each other.)

If you own a website or take part in any online communities, post your information here! I know that some people keep private journals, and if that's the case, cool... I used to do the same thing, and didn't like other people knowing my 'online alias'. XD I really enjoy it now, and would love to find Regina friends who are on the same sites/messengers.

Hi all!

This is the place to introduce yourself. Tell us if your a newbie or returning veteran, how many years you've participated, about your story, and anything else you want to share.

My name is Sandra, and this will be my fourth Nanowrimo, and hopefully my foruth win (*fingers crossed*). It will be my second year as ML, so forgive me as I'm still learning, and feel free to give constructive criticism (I'll take it well...I promise).

No only do I have a story idea already, but also a title; "The Assassination of Humpty Dumpty".

TGIO Party - Suggestions

Hi Everyone!

I know we're only at the half way mark, but now is usually the time I start to plan the "Thank Goodness It's Over" (TGIO) party. This is where we celebrate our accomplishments, whether you hit 50,000 word goal or not.
The TGIO party will take place on Sunday December 6, some time in the mid afternoon.

Now I just need suggestions on where to hold the party. A restaurant is good, but nothing too fancy or expensive. We just need a place where we can eat, drink, and be merry!

I live in the east end, so I'm familiar with Applebee's, East Side Mario's, and the millions of other places to eat out here. Seeing as we have so many University students participating, are there any good restaurants in that area?

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions.
Write-in on the 15th (free massages O:!)

Hey all~

I know I told some of you at the write-in today how my boyfriend is going through school at the moment for massage therapy. He is in need of new "patients" or whatever, and has offered anyone who wants one a free hand and arm massage on the 15th! Apparently the hand massage will help prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and with all the typing everyone is doing, I figure some people might appreciate it. So I just need a count of how many people would actually be interested in this, so I know whether or not to drag him along for a few hours. He has to work at 4, so if you want one you would have to be there before 1 or 2. The only thing he needs you to do is fill out a little bit of paperwork (which is super easy, I had to do it and it only took like five minutes or so) and then sit there and let him practice on you. (Don't worry, he knows what he's doing. He hasn't hurt me yet, and apparently he got 90s on all of his midterm exams lol)

He needs 70 "new patients" by the end of the year, and he's only at 38, so he would appreciate it a bunch if even a few of you want to take up his offer o: (Well, and I would appreciate it, too. Stressed out boyfriends are a pain in the ass >_>)

Thanks guys!! <3

Vampire Night

Hey Guys,

Who's writing horror (Or Horror related) materials this year?

Vampire Night Is being hosted on Friday the 13th. It'll be an awesome marathon of words as we work through 13 straight hours of writing!

We'll be starting off with a potluck dinner at 6pm Followed by a starting gun at 8pm to start writing!

We'll be playing horror/vampire related movies on the big screen and have some yummy snacks (Ginger DeadMen Anyone?) and write until the clock strikes nine the next day!

(You might want to bring a pillow and a blanky in case you need a nap break!)

If you're interested in attending this ghoulish night of writing fun get in contact with me at Webmaster@TheDomesticGothess.com. Room is limited so once we're full, we're full. Also, Please Note It's BYOB if you feel like drinking some wine or something, but you have to be over the age of 19 to attend.

Spook you soon!

Love Always,

Write-ins

So this being my first Nano I'm really hoping to make some time to attend some write-ins. My only concern is that my laptop battery is fried and doesn't hold a charge anymore, so I need a power outlet in order to turn it on. This is going to probably sound pretty dumb, cause I feel dumb for not noticing before, but at places that the write-ins are going to be (like the one coming up on sunday, at Tim Horton's off Vic) are there outlets on the wall that are available for the leeching? Cause honestly I'd much rather bring my laptop along if I can actually plug it in, than bring paper and a pen and cramp up my hand. Not to mention I can type faster than I can write!

----------

It looks like we're still sharing the chatroom with Saskatoon, which is awesome btw, and this year I hope to see a larger presence from Regina there. I mean, c'mon, I was the only regular last year! Don't leave me alone with them again!

Why should you use the chatroom...? A) It's fun, B) it's like a write in without leaving your home! Word wars ftw! Last year we usually had about five or so people on at a time so it's not like it's too barren or crowded.

The chatroom is greatly improved from last year - it's on an IRC server, which means that you don't have to use your web browser to access it. If you're using firefox, I recommend that you install the ChatZilla plugin and use it for the chatroom. After you install chatzilla, all you have to do is click here to access the chatroom. (If you're using a different IRC client, server: irc.mibbit.com and channel: #sasknano.) If you just want to use the web interface, click here.

If anyone wants me to, I can put a list of useful IRC commands here. For starters, you can change your name by using "/nick aethre". For an action, type in "/me is jumping".
Regional Word War :: Saskatoon vs Regina - Friendly Taunting and Challenges!

Hello, hello!

Saskatoon is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging Regina to a Word War. We have several unique awards that will be given out at the end of November, but I will allow James to do the honours for that, later on in this thread. (That's your cue, James!)

In addition to the regions going up against each other, I am hereby challenging the ML of Regina, Phoenixfox, to an individual word war. We can watch the regional progress in our regional headers; we can watch me kick the her butt in this post. ;)

Let the taunting begin!

Current Regional Status

**This thread is posted in both the Saskatoon forum and the Regina forum. Through the magic of this post, people from one region may easily taunt people from the other region without needing to affiliate with the enemy. How's that for snazzy?**

I was wondering if anyone else followed the link on the main page to this test?

My main character, Petrin, scored a 19, in an original fiction/fantasy, which seems to be very acceptable. He gets away with a lot b/c he is from another world.
Plots!

So, I realised that usually, when people ask what I'm writing for my novel, I tend to be rushing to class. Not the best time to discuss a kinda lengthy and potentially confusing plot bunny brigade. And browsing through every single person's author info, while potentially fun and interesting and spoileriffic, isn't nearly as fun as getting lost in here for a few hours...or days... but I digress.

Post your plots, and whatever else about your story you'd like to share, here!

Mine is about a girl that I've had stuck in my head for a few months, ever since the new companion for Doctor Who was revealed. I've only written a very minimal amount about her, but she's still there.

In this story, it's about 30 years in the future. After a poor reaction to retcon, leading to a severe case of amnesia, she has been put under the care of the recently reformed Torchwood, along with her twin sister. But things aren't right. Torchwood is having trouble figuring her out. Her mostly human biology mixed with something unknown, even to them. And her twin sister isn't as identical as she seems.

Torchwood is made up of Captain Jack Harkness, the irrepressible ex-Time Agent, Katie, one of the best doctors in the UK, who was fired after being found to be the cause of nearly 15 divorces in two years (she brings a new meaning to the phrase 'appendix removal with a happy ending'), and Nick, a kid who acts like he's just a shallow emo kid, but is hiding some real pain.
Fund Raising and Donating

Hi, everyone!

Phoenixfox and I have decided to combine Saskatoon and Regina in the realm of fund raising. (This means nothing when it comes to word wars, but everything for the Office of Letters and Light [OLL]!)

To that end, I have created a team called SaskNaNo. It's the Young Writers' Project (YWP) fund raising project through Gifttool. If you want to get in on it, head on over to http://www.nanowrimo.org/sponsorship and click on the link for the sponsorship start page.

The idea is that you will collect pledges from people you know, and then send the money to the OLL. The money will be used to help fund all kinds of lovely OLL programs, but especially the YWP. And, of course, the more money we raise, the better NaNoWriMo will be!

Visit the link and check out the details, then register for the SaskNaNo team, collect pledges, and donate! And sometime in December, we will get donor goodies. :)

I set our team a goal of $1000, and I'm hoping to get 14 of you lovely participants to join. We can discuss fund raising techniques here - how do you convince someone to feed your addiction to NaNo?

Of course, Phoenixfox and I will also be collecting donations at meets this year. Those donations will be given on behalf of our two separate regions - Regina and Saskatoon. This is a way for all of Saskatchewan to show our dedication to NaNo. It also is a way for people who are unable to get to meets to contribute.

And, finally, if you have some spare money and are able to donate online (e.g., via PayPal), head on over to the Donations/Store and give some money and buy some merchandise. Every little bit counts!
Kick Off Party - RSVP!

Hello Regina Nanoers!

Here are the details for the kick-off party:
When: October 31, 2009
Time: 9:00pm to 12:15am
Where: UofR South tower Residence (Morgan’s place)

Since it is Halloween, I thought it would be fun for us to dress up. And, since we’re all writers (or wannabe writers) I thought it would be fitting to dress up as someone from a novel (which should be extremely easy....and graphic novels do count)

It is absolutely vital for you to RSVP. Since the party is at the University Residence, there can only be a certain amount of people allowed to be signed in, and we would like to make sure that everyone who wants to come can get in.

There will be a 15 minute word war happening at the stroke of midnight to help everyone get off to a good start, so be sure to bring your laptops and/or writing utensils.
I would also like to request that you bring your own drinks. Some snack food will be provided.

I think that covers just about everything. Hope to see you there!

Sandra – Regina ML
So it begins.....

Hi everyone!

Another fun, crazy, exciting, stressful and insane year of Nanowrimo is starting. My name is Sandra, and I will be your ML again this year. As you can see, not only has the website been updated this year, but for the first time Regina and Saskatoon have their own forums.
Sure it's only October, but this is the perfect time to start plotting and planning your stories. I'm currently working on the calendar of events for the Regina region, and it should be done the last week of October.
As always, I would love to get some feedback or suggestions for write-in dates or places, as well as for our kick off party on October 31 (Happy Halloween!).
I'm looking forward to Nanowrimo this year, and if anyone has any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Phoenixfox aka Sandra
