Before I started my whole novel I had the big finish in mind ... Well, I finally made it, the pay-off, the point in the story where everything has to come together, the big twist, the heart-wrenching final choice, and ... splat.

Augh!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yep...partly, because when the "real" story came to me on the weekend and I was at the 40,000 word mark, and realised things were taking a totally unexpected turn in the plot department, I just sat down and wrote the peak of the action, then the ending....then the...stuff....that will...go...other...places in the....novel...yeah...somewhere....

I figure after I put this story aside and have a December break, I'll get it out again in January for a few months of editing and wrestling and rewriting, and deal with the anticlimax-climax then.

My climax has my main character sliding down a large stone pyramid of a lost city as it implodes in on itself.

Who knew?

Not me, that's for sure.

Oh, and this is for you Eric:

My story's climax has one of my two main characters turning out to be an ex-secret service man as they break into an old military building in the middle of a bomb zone to rescue a class of school children - none of which had existed 8,000 words earlier in my novel.

I don't have a climax yet ;_;'

My characters are putting off getting there. It's really annoying.

I definitely am writing that part right now. It was all planned out and sounded really good in my head, but now it's just kind of... pathetic. But hey, who cares, it's all part of the 50K. :D

My climax is okay (I think it's the kind of thing you see coming a mile away, but aside from that, it's okay, at least), but to get to 50K I had to write an epilogue that was just *terrible*. It will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes.

My climax originally involved the revelation that the bad guy, whilst being betrayed by an even badder guy, is the main character's father, all while in the middle of a ritual meant to sacrifice the main character's love interest within a crumbling/exploding temple. But then as I got there, I realized I had too many characters wandering about, especially bad guys. So, I had to quickly kill a couple off, but that kind of made the climax weak. That's something that'll need to be fixed later.
