Hello, everyone -

I asked Georgina if it was okay to post here... I'm Parlance, I'm in Los Angeles and much of my NaNo novel is based in Bath. I probably won't be done with my first draft until December/January, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me with regional dialogue issues and questions about the Bath area in general? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and good luck on your own novels!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum ...

When is your novel set? Also which area of Bath? I would say that Bath is quite a melting pot of speech but there are still some areas where you hear the Somerset accent. I haven't lived there for so long but there are others here that live there currently.

Hi, Georgina -

Hmmm... where in Bath is an interesting question. I'm writing a Tears for Fears fanfiction, so the novel is set where they grew up, but I admit I know little about the area beyond a brief visit around the tourist areas in the late 80s. The Bath part of the novel takes place in the late '70s/early 80s and a bit in the early 90s. One of them lived in Keynsham and then moved to Bath. The other grew up in Snow Hill.

My novel is alternate universe, so I'm changing some details for the sake of just getting the story/plot down, and I didn't want to get too specific with locations until the editing stages.

So I guess the short answer is I'm open to suggestions. :-> Hope that makes some sense! Thanks for replying.

I'm semi-local, having lived in Bristol since 1993, and in Somerset since 2003, although I think there are others who'd consider themselves much more local to Bath using this forum. If I can help in any way, then I'm more than happy to, as I'm sure others will be too.

And I had NO idea that Tears For Fears were from around here! I took my motorbike test in Keynsham!
