Once my wife went into the hospital last week, I knew I'd never be able to pad my novel like I hoped. I settled on a goal of completing it by the 30th.

Which I just did. I'm nowhere near 50K, but I honestly couldn't be more satisfied with the initial end product. My sister, whom I've been randomly submitting chapters to, has been giving me tons of feedback and support. She believes I should turn it into a graphic novel since it's about superheroes, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a screenplay since it's lower on action and higher on dialogue and feelings. Regardless, it's hands-down the best thing I've ever written since I've started actively writing about 3 years ago.

Anyone wants to read the first draft, drop me a line here or at this screenname at Hotmail, and I'll fire it your way!

Yes, go; go on; know that it is all about going farther. None of this will be "done" tonight.

When I finished the 51k mark, I still had at least three essential scenes only partially completed and five pages of "sketches" that included necessary quotes, thoughts, points of view, etc. for scenes I felt were "part of the work". I added them all on--the sidebars, notes and sketches this project inspired.

Respect your work.

There's a lot of stuff I have to clean up, and I have this horrible feeling about leaving the characters where they are. I'm setting another goal to finish the character's stories by the end of the year and finding a better close to my novel before I edit it. There's a lot I have to do to clean it up too, the story got away from me in the early days of writing it and as a result I've completely turned directions and I'm going to have to do a lot of adding and deleting to entire scenes to make the whole thing work out right.

Respect to the work is key.
