I made a mistake and put my whole story for now to my excerpt. I didn't realize it until it was too late, and now I can't change it. This prevents me from joining any story competitions, and also, I really want a shorter excerpt. Any idea what I can do? Can I delete my profile altogether? I'm open to that also, if I can register afterwards.

While there is no way to edit your excerpt (that option was disabled on Dec 1 at midnight) hopefully later this month the option to delete your excerpt will be rolled out. It WILL be enabled at some point, but we aren't sure when. It will be announced when it is ready, though.

Is this feature going to be implemented sometime soon? I too am very concerned about being able to delete my excerpt. I would never have even posted one if I had known that this was going to happen. As the OP said, it interferes with her being able to enter her story in competitions. It also can cause problems for those who edit their manuscripts and want to try for publication.
I would ask the site administrators to make excerpt removal a priority.

There are other functions that are a greater priority at this point. We do understand your frustration, but cannot at this time give an ETA for this ability. Excerpts are, and always have been, a November-only feature.
From the FAQs:
During November you can post an excerpt from your novel. Follow the same steps as listed above for updating the Word Count. Below the Word Count update fields, there's a Novel Excerpt update area.
Paste your excerpt into this field, and then click "Update" at the bottom of the form.
After November the excerpt field is locked.

I don't understand why they lock it to begin with....
