While I know NanoWrimo is over for November, I also know we've got many who post on the other forums and our Maryland region becomes a bit quiet, err. Well, to be honest, it nearly shuts down completely.

Please know the forum is still open, I usually check in daily, sometimes every other day.

Don't be a stranger. Tell us what's up with you. It doesn't necessarily have to be about your novel, but you can surely update us on whether or not you burned it, deleted it, or are in the throes of editing it righteously to send it out for acceptance. We wanna know ALL about it.

Tell us your Christmas plans, excitement or woes. Nanowrimo is actually a great bonding place for all of us. We learn from each other and share a lot. This is a wonderful place that need not be dormant for 10-11 months out of the year.

---------
So if you are around, SING OUT!

Smiles to all,

Carol

Oh, I'm still around, although I don't check nearly as often as I do in November.

And right now, my novels are in percolation mode. In other words, they are sitting dormant on my computer until December 12, when I will open each in turn and read what exactly it was I wrote during the last hectic month. Much of it will be crap; I am okay with that. Editing begins December 15 after I have read each of them in turn.

Who knows? One or more of them may end up in some editor's slush pile!

I've been taking my chapters from NaNo into writing workshop I'm currently attending. The group has been giving me their input and advice on my novel. It has been extremely helpful and I may be able to turn my fifty thousand plus words into something that could one day be readable!

I hate to tell you, mine was so bad--it should be digitally burned.

I ended up trying to combine two different genres and it failed really bad. But there were some cool passages.

Next year, I'm forgoing experimentation and actually will settle to write something decent.

Glad to see everyone here.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who hit refresh here a few times a week.

I've been going crazy with end-term grading and stuff. and since I assigned a "write-o-rama" for my students, that means I have to at least skim all of their efforts, and quite a few got over 10K!

I'd love to do something in January though - maybe a 1/1 write-in, to start the new year off right?

Hey all.

Working through my reading of books. Finished one novel, going through another. (Dresden is Hysterically funny!)

Not really written much since I posted my win, cause I wanted to avoid hurting my aching wrists. Course, I work on a computer all day, so that didn't matter much. :>

Christmas is home trying to get used to living in my new house.
The new year promises me editing my novel from 06 and trying to get it to an agent to be published...

Anyone wanting to help with the editing, let me know? :>

Hello writers, I have recovered from sever neuron realignment from excessive writing. I hope you have too. I think I understand masochism a little better. The writing was painful and exciting and I want to do it again. Does that make me a deviant? I hope so. I want to build some kind of writing support group from the pool of people who wrote in the 'Contest'. I would like to concentrate the energy rather than let it dissipate. I feel the synergy could be magnificent. Two things I learned in this exercise in self flagellation it is good to bar the door to the editor until the story is spit out into existence and my favorite questions are 'what if...' and 'what is the worst thing that can happen now'. Instead of looking for solutions to problems I am learning how to torture characters like an old testament God. I never knew it could so fun to set up nice people and then rain plagues on them.

Is there a way to form groups by maryland region either in person or virtual? The social pressure of writing to share in a group would be good for me.

Does anyone want to offer a manuscript the have written?
Comments or suggestions to wordspinner2@verizon.net or on this blog.

Question: What is the most important thing you learned doing NaNoWriMo?

2 most important things I learned are:

1) Despite feeling like I'm antisocial and a loner, I write best (meaning most) in the presence/energy of others

2) I can't say "Oh yeah, I would rock, if I just put in the effort." I did do the 50K this year, and I have a great framework for something (if I can detangle it), but I *do* need to go through some exercises and things and learn HOW to do a scene, and dialog, and all that stuff. I don't just magically know it from reading a lot, and just plunging in is progress, but not enough. (That sounds bad, but it's really like getting a bit of the Zen "beginner's mind" to knock me off my ego pedestal, so I can be open to learning.)

(and yes, I'd love to join anything that will harness the energy also - i'm the user name you see here @ gmail dot com. Thanks!)

Maybe we can invade a Bookstore for the evening of 1/1 (a Tuesday, btw)? evening so people have time to recover from any new year's celebrations, or day jobs if they don't get Tuesday off?

(I did the Columbia Border's for the writeins in November - I wonder if the Ellicot City (long gate plaza) B&N would also be open to write-ins?)

I love the idea of a writein on January 1...especially since it's one of my free nights in January. I don't know how it is now but I remember that B&N was really crowded at the writein I went to there in 2005. A lot can change in a few years though.

Also, I don't know the situation regarding how many outlets they have in the cafe. (I usually pull one of their big armchairs over to an outlet when I'm there). Does anyone have any knowledge on the cafe? If I remember, I can check it out next time I stop in.

I love the idea of starting something fresh in January. I'm still hoping things at work and home slow down a little--it's been such a crazy ride this entire year. Trying to eke out time for me to write in November became a family effort. If I can just finish getting everything ready for Christmas then I think I can relax.

Those cold dark winter nights I hope to be back writing again or if it's too bitter, curling up in bed with a book sneaks away other writing time.

I'm so glad to see some of our folks still around and posting. It's wonderful to have this available to us to keep in touch.

~~~~~~~
I see some like writing together, feeding off combined energy. I wish I could do that. I can only write when solitary--but then I should be able to write in a group simply because the teen bugs me the entire time--LOL.
Happy Saturday, batten down the hatches, looks like we're in for a blow tomorrow!
I think all my non-writing friends thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth since October LOL!
I'm working on setting up a writer's group based on the people who expressed interest. Anyone else who wants to talk about it can email me at my NaNo address, which forwards to the email I use for writing stuff.
I was not so good at checking back here last year, but when I did others had not, so I think it was ok. Would be nice to help support each other in the "off season" as it were.
Now that the holidays are over, I hope to have time to work on my writing website, my forum, the group, and oh, my writing. Course, I surprised my husband with a Wii, so we've been a bit distracted!
Miss you all,
Lee
