I made one of my big, fun, scary goals to get a yellow belt in a martial art. I wasn't specific as to which martial art, as I have yet to pick a dojo.

Does anyone out there have any recommendations? Martial art style? Particular school? I was eyeing Tokyo Joe's and Chung's Tae Kwon Do in Nashua. Has anyone heard good or bad things about them?

When I call around and ask questions like lesson times and cost, are there other things I should be asking to help me pick the best school?

Thanks for any help, guys!

I managed to get blue in Shotokan Karate before we moved and I had to start over in a new dojo. Manage yellow in Shaolin-Kempo Karate before we moved yet again... Granted, getting a yellow belt is not very hard. In pretty much any system, its the first belt you earn. You shouldn't have any trouble getting it by the end of the year.

As far as systems/styles go, it's pretty much personal style. Karate is very straight forward and basic. For some reason, I have trouble taking TKD seriously. I don't know why. If I could find schools, I would like to learn Jeet Kun Do or Kung Fu. I am planning to get into the aikido club at UNH soon. That should be interesting. All of my previous training has been hw to hit people, and aikido has no overt attacks.

I had a bit of karate in the Scouts. That was a long time ago. :)

For me, just signing up for a class and attending regularly enough for long enough to get a yellow belt will be a real achievement. I'm rather worried everyone around me will be so much more in shape and looking at me funny. And stuff like that.

Believe me, a yellow belt is big and scary enough! :)

The cost might also defeat me.
