I am looking to form a new writer's group in Orlando, Florida.
I'm considering one that meets in the evening on Monday or Tuesday once a week. This would be for serious writers. Meaning that every week people should have new material written up.
Possible Locations (though I am open to suggestions):
1. Orlando Public Library-Downtown on central between Orange Ave and Central (they have private rooms there for groups)
101 E. Central Blvd.
Orlando, FL 32801
2. Drunken Monkey- On the Corner of Bumby and Amelia (coffee shop with many outlets for laptops and a welcoming atmosphere)
444 N Bumby Ave
Orlando, FL 32803
It will be a critique and support group where depending on the amount of people we either share every week or take turns sharing and critiquing our work.
The group is going to be one that is supposed to be one that is for critiquing, sharing works and getting moral support between fellow fiction writers.
This group is only for fiction! I personally write fantasy with some dabbling in romance. If you are interested please email me (D. Kiplan) at balthane at

I would be all for it, except that I don't like to have my work critiqued on a weekly basis. I am also a fantasy writer, but I prefer to write an entire draft, as Stephen King put it "with the door closed". It allows me to not focus on my prose and just let the story fly. I am just finishing a JanNoWriMo that looks like it will be a trashed project once it hits 50k, but I have a story in the wings I am anxious to begin.
So, if it would be more of a writing group then a sharing group, I'd be in, otherwise, it's not really for me. I think you may struggle to find people on this site who will be willing to have their work critiqued weekly, since the whole point of NaNoWriMo is to simply hurl a story onto the page.
Good Luck

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately sharing is one of the important aspects of the writing group that I'm putting together. The writing groups I have been a part of in the past have shown me that sharing not only helps to better people's work, but also provides a way for writers to be accountable. Also its less likely to fall apart if everyone is sharing and critiquing instead of only a few people. The groups I've been in that have done this I have seen really prosper and most of the writers in them, including myself, have been published.
Since I have moved to Orlando I've been in search for the same sort of support group. It is, of course, not for everyone, which is fine. I rather keep the group a small group of dedicated people. Every writers has their own way of working and I respect that. So this is simply for people who feel that they can benefit from having a group that shares and critiques each other work with a weekly accountability. Again thank you for responding. It helps me to clarify why the group works like it does. Good luck as well!!!
