So.. I've been toying around with a story-idea involving immaculate conception ...
and i was wondering if anyone could tell me about their ideas? I know that's a pretty basic question but I'm grateful for everything!
I'm also talking about how you think the girl and her environment would react to it.
Thanks. And sorry I can't yet give you any more details as I don't really have them as yet.

I kind of answered your question in the other forum, sorry if I sounded snippy. From what you describe it sounds more like you're toying with the idea of a virgin birth, rather than her being conceived without original sin.

I'm basing this on the "virgin" birth idea, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it would depend on who the girl is and the circumstances of her situation are. If I knew suddenly I was pregnant and did nothing to get pregnant, I'd pretty well be freaked out, especially if I never had sex.

Unless, she was praying and hoping for something like this to happen, then I imagine she'd feel overjoyed, blessed and special. Though, I think I would be more overwhelmed and freaked. Of course, it depends on who she is, your setting and what time period she's living in.

I don't think I was very helpful to you.

Mary, Part 2* would go like this...

Announcer: Suddenly, some virgin is pregnant!

Skepticism: NO WAY, she used in-vitro fertilization.

Catholicism: Oh my, I owe Nostradamus $20. I guess the Crusades will happen again, too.

Orthodoxy: Do you mind if we put a poster of you on the wall so our followers can kiss it?

Protestants: How come the Bible doesn't say it? Are you sure it isn't the Anti-Christ she's carrying?

(Neo)Pagans: Why doesn't anyone annouce our 'miracles'? We found water in the dead sea in '78!

Atheism: The kid was probably knocked unconscious and raped behind a dumpster, ya know?

Mary the 2nd: *facepalms* Please, just get the cameras out of here. I don't even have lipstick on. Why did you let this happen, God?

God: lol, Doesn't anyone remember the second coming?

Adventists: OOH WE DO! SAVE US FROM DAMNATION!

God: How about...no? *Adventists suddenly dissappear from Earth*

ElPresidente: Just be sure to deliver it before election day. I just -have- to kiss it in my campaign ad.

*yeah, I'm being an ass about this, but I really don't mind any religion's...religiousity...on the subject. Except for maybe (Neo)Pagans, but it is true that they don't get much attention for all the noise they make.

You need to make sure you clarify whether you are writing about a virgin conception or immaculate conception, which is quite different. In case you weren't sure, a virgin conception is what happened to Mary, when she conceived Jesus with no male 'help.' THE Immaculate Conception is when Mary was conceived in the womb of her mother without original sin. So... let me think...

If it were an immaculate conception, the girl would really have no way of knowing, would she? She wouldn't really have a reaction since there's not exactly a way of telling that her baby had no original sin, unless perhaps the pregnancy was especially easy?

Virgin conception, she would probably flip out. Hardly anyone would believe her, she might be kicked out of her church, depending on her denomination. She would find herself ostracized by her friends and family, and have a hard time until the baby was born. This is assuming that she hasn't had relations with a man recently. If she HAD, then they would probably expect the baby to be the man's, and there would be less of a religious upheaval and more of a moral one.

Hope I helped!
