As this question is sometimes asked among the authors who frequent this site, I would like to suggest a way to mark whether one is a male or female in the author's profile.
Thank you.

Just make sure there's a way to opt out if you do this. I'm not comfortable putting that information in a public profile, even though you can figure out my sex based on context if you read enough of my posts.

If any new profile features are implemented like this, they'll be the same as the existing ones... they'll only show up if you fill them out. :)

I agree that this would help sometimes and that it would clearly be optional.
We could also make sure that the possible answers provided enough choices
Q: Are you a male or a female?
Answers:
1. Female
----------2. Male
3. Yes
4. Last time I checked I was one of those
5. I don't know

Eh. In the end, there's no easy way to verify the claimed sex (or any other attribute) of most WriMos. But how often does sex actually matter? Should the posts not stand on their own merit, generally speaking?

But when you wish to refer to his/her story or his/her earlier comment, it can get confusing.
And there's no easy way to verify anything the people say here about themselves.

Given that people regularly put their ages as 1 or 99, I wouldn't worry to much about the merits of any given statistic in a profile. :) It's only as useful as people want it to be.

*raises hand* I am one of those that puts down 1 as my age. I wanted to put down 'younger than you' as my age, but it wouldnt work;)

As said above, if you leave it blank it won't even show up in the profile. I don't see why it can't be considered as an add-on to the profile ^^ Great idea :)

I hope I didn't come across as not liking the idea. I do!
