Hello everyone!

We're almost there! Because I am going to need every minute I can get to finish on time, I'm going to be doing another almost all day thing at Pancake Parlour on Sunday. Anyone else want to come along? If you've finished your word count but not the story, bring along your nano and complete your storyline :-)

As for after party, anyone have any preferences? I was thinking next Friday night perhaps and a venue TBA?

This is my first NaNo and prior to signing up for it I read some where that your NaNo stories are usually crap and should be discarded as a bit of fun. Do people agree with this? Do people think that their stories have potential? Or will you be holding a ms burning ceremony on Dec 1?

I'm actually in love with my NaNo story, Surviving Reject High. My blog-friends can attest to the fact that I babble constantly about it. Don't get me wrong, it's a total mess and needs some serious editing but I love it none the less. I certainly hope that amidst all the bad metaphors and clunky prose there's a half-decent tale.

I'm curious about what other people think.

My house is very good for up to about 20-30 people (I have 17 actual chairs in a combined lounge/dining right now and more available, plus a balcony, plus other rooms), and could probably handle 100 if they got on pretty well. Plus I'm next to a park. And the local shops.

I love hosting (alcohol is okay, though no drugs, no drunkenness and no drinking by minors). For younger people's parents, I have a police check (though somewhat out of date), and my husband and I won't drink anything. I am good at being reassuring, mostly because I'm naturally responsible.

I dunno if plans for an early-December party are on yet, but if you like you can have it here on Friday 4 Dec (beginning anytime from 3 in the arvo). Anyone who wants can stay over until at least midday Saturday. And I've got the necessary electrics if anyone feels like editing their opus. (Internet is extremely limited though, sadly - unless you pay me loads of cash for my pre-paid dongle credit.)

Oh - I have two cats (so not good if you're allergic).

If we're going to be having another Sunday ~~write in~~ procrastination in, we may as well start thinking of which cafe we'll be going to.
It should be easy to get to for those of us ~~too lazy to progress further than our L plates~~ who still catch buses, and power is a must. Let's all ~~just go to the pancake parlour again~~ get thinking guys!

So, my word count is still at 1700 thanks to a troublesome child, illness and lots and lots of paid work (which is awesome and all, but they couldn't wait till *after* November??)

And you know what? I am going to make goal. It's going to be a little harder, but that's cool.

Collector Transport Issue

Crazy Collector Write-In

Hello fellow NaNo-ers!

A tentative date and place has been suggested for our mid-month Night of Writing Dangerously! We're looking at the evening of the 13th November out at Collector.

The plan at this point is that we'll use the Collector hall (TBC), and arrange carpools for anyone who needs one. If you intend to come please RSVP so we can begin arranging transport. There is high speed wifi available at the hall, so don't worry about being disconnected from the hive mind - we can connect you!

Items that you will need to bring:
A doona or blanket (the hall has a hard floor)
A pillow
A shareable snack for the group
Writing devices of some description

Items we would totally love you to bring:
Caffeine in various forms
a iPod with a playlist of music for background noise
Good cheer, and NaNo craziness

More updates will happen as our lovely ML (and others) have more info to give.

Grammar Garble

I'm going to let it all out here. I'm a tick junkie.

Yeah, I need to have that little tick that windows word awards for having perfect spelling and grammar in the corner. If it's a cross, I weep until I fix the situation. I know many people ignore windows word grammar, or just turn it off, but I tolerate it to get my tick fix.

Which leads to some great grammar moments. When I realise that perhaps windows word has a FAR greater understanding of English than mere humans (to the degree where the sentences it says you should change to make no sense to mortals)

"I'm not sure I'm on the right side"
should actually be;
"I is not sure i'm on the right side"

What's the strangest grammar suggestion that's been thrown at you?

Is there anyone new here lurking around? Introductions all round!

I'm Julia, the ML for this year. I have a 18 month old baby boy named Marcus who keeps trying to help me write by slamming hard on the keyboard ^_^

I write romances and genre fiction and this year my Nano is going to be about twin heirs to the throne, separated at birth, who have to vie off for the throne of England. There's sorcery and secret birthmarks and a queen disguised as an old gypsy fortuneteller. I think it's going to be really fun to write :-)
