" Last year, you guys were one rank higher than us in total word count, and quite a bit higher in amount donated. We of the Atlanta region hereby challenge you to an epic battle-slash-friendly competition for the month of November – a battle of word counts, a battle of fund-raising. Y’all game?"

We’re so totally game, aren’t we? We were in the top ten last year for word count and 11th for fund-raising. Let’s beat the tar out of them!

Just passed 50K! So friggin excited. When I started this I never imagined I'd hit the 50K mark so early. Going to keep the momentum alive, though, since there's still plenty to this book to write. Going to stick with the NaNo rule of no editing until it's all done, too.

Four days ago I was two and a half days behind and now, largely do to the inspiration of going to the write-a-thon, I amd now a day ahead of schedule! Yeah! If I can get another day ahead in the next two days I can actually spend time with my family this weekend. Double yeah. Want to Host a Meeting?

That’s Great! The Denver Metro Area is a big place. Way too big for three ML’s to cover. We encourage others to get together to talk, write and generally have a good time. Here are a few guidelines that we ask for you to follow:

After any discussion on when and where to meet on the boards or on this site…clearly state in one post:

* Place
* Time
* Date
* Rules

It may seem silly but the rules for the meeting is just the general expectations for the meeting…is it a meet and greet? Do you expect everyone that comes to shut up and write? Say so! That way folks can come to meetings of a type they enjoy.

Rule #1: Please respect others.
Rule #2: Please only plan events on this site which are open to all Denver Nanos. You can have space limits (say only 10 for a Perkins meetup for example), but we ask that you don't plan private events in a public forum).

Once we see all the info we will post it on the calendar so other Nano’s can find you. Google Calender connects to Google Maps from the event so everyone can get directions. The calendar can be found on the dennanos.org site under Calendar of Events.

Eventually he resorted to calling a taxicab, but not before screaming some of the foulest words that had ever graced the Blackvale home!"

I got a little bored tonight, so I did some math (and for those of you who know me, you know what that means...)

(these are as of 11 PM Nov 14)

Denver has 588 writers, 8,304,158 words with an average of 14,122 per writer.
Boulder has 220 writers, 3,051,949 words with an average of 13,872 per writer,
COS has 216 writers, 3,031,460 words with an average of 14,034 per writer,
Ft. Co has 179 writers, 2,791375 words with an average of 15,594 per writer,
CO Else has 108 writers, 1,414,377 words with an average of 13,096 per writer,
Durango has 49 writers, 757,151 words with an average of 15,329 per writer,
Grand J has 42 writers, 663,444 words with an average of 15,796 per writer,
Greeley has 37 writers, 515,121 words with an average of 13,922 per writer.

This give Colorado a total of 1,439 writers. Our total state word count is 20,523,035 with an average 14,262 words per writer!

They have free wi-fi, limited outlets (1 plus extension cord- we're working on it), and a friendly staff that makes excellent pizza, calzones, panini and soup. Need Carpal Tunnel Tips for Nanoing

I've been waking up with a numb thumb and first two/three fingers on my right hand for the last week. It seems to be getting worse and it takes longer for the numbness to wear off each day. Many friends have told me that this is the first sign of carpal tunnel. I have an appt. with the neurologist on Friday, but am looking for tips from folks with or who have had carpal tunnel in the past. what do you suggest for nanoing? I took two days off typing, but no luck.

Fighting to keep up on word count

This year, I decided I needed more of a challenge and set me word count calendar for 75K....which is 2500 words a day. Doable, right? Well, I'm right there but it is kicking my butt! I have to knock off 1000 words at a time because my back won't let me sit for the entire days's word count. So it is more of a challenge this year and I have to say reading the forums and seeing you all's little bars under your names is encouragement.

I wish I could go to the write in because I need to get a couple days ahead to cover the holiday. Oh well, guess not yet. Thanks for the wordless encouragement and I'll take words of encouragement too. This is what the nano challenge is to me and although it's hard, I"m loving it!

I can't join the on-pace thread yet, so I'm starting my own! I feel like I'm bailing enough water to keep afloat, but there's still a hole in the boat. I'm depending on long stretches of bathrobe-clad writing time this weekend to help repair all the leaks in my willpower and get me ahead in case I continue to come up short on weekdays.

Some years it goes easy, other years 50K is a lot of work. I think this year will be the latter for me. But I WILL get there!

Cinema Grill Social Meetup!

Hi everybody! Don't forget that tonight at 6 pm we meet at the Cinema Grill, which is at Alameda and I-225. See the calendar for map and directions.

It's a great theater, charging only 4 bucks for a ticket and offering a full menu of food at ordinary restaurant prices (more or less). You don't have to order anything if you don't want to.

This is a purely social event, no writing. Meeting at 6, we will have our choice between "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Time Traveler's Wife". We can vote at the time. There's also "Surrogates" but it doesn't start till 7, so we'll probably give it a miss.

I'll be the short round person standing around outside the theater looking hopeful, possibly with a couple of hulking teenagers. Come join us!
