Sunday, November 8 @ Panera on Powers!

I unexpectedly have the day off, so I'm going to take full advantage and use the time to boost my slacking word count. I'll be at Panera on Powers from about 3 until I get tired and go home (might be close, might be a little earlier)

Come join me!

Dear Author (Letters from Characters)

I don't know about you all, but I don't have the time to read through EVERYONE's funny letters...but I would love to hear about some of the ones that are coming from characters in our fair city!

So, just let your characters start talking to you, write down what they have to say, and post it here!
_____________________________________
Dear Author,

I know I've been floating around inside that crazy and rather messy space you call a mind for a while now, and don't get me wrong, I'm glad to finally have a name and a solid story, but I must protest. What sort of name is Nudge2710? It's not a good one, I can tell you that. Makes me feel so cold, so impersonal. Yeah, I know, I'm not actually a person, but still, I want to connect with readers, and I think I'd do that so much better with a cooler name. Something like Jane.

Please consider before you waltz into my head and start writing this story. It will make things much easier on both of us.

Sincerly,

Friendly Competition for the 50k

I've found that one of my biggest motivations during NaNo is competition, so here the forum is, restored from last year, and the year before. Hopefully we can encourage each other to new heights through intense competition.

I'm going to be noveling here at Panera on Powers in the Springs until about 5:30 this evening. (It's almost 1:30 now.) So I figured if there were any regional wrimos out there looking for someone to write with, then you're welcome to stop by here.

I'm in the west side of the building in the back corner. (Around where we had the kick off party.) You're welcome to just call out for MangyCat. I'll probably be the only one who looks at you. ;o)
Bang or Thud?

Just wondering how everyone's early NaNo is going? Are you off with a bang, did you hit the ground running? Or has your novel already hit the ground with a depressing thud?

I had planned to start writing at midnight, Nov 1st, but got too busy partying. . . ha ha. Had to sleep that off most of the next day. Then about 9:30 pm on the 2nd, started writing with still only an inkling of what my novel would be about, other than that it would be a western. Now, I'm over 4,000 words into my story and havin' a blast. Even made the supposedly fatal error of rereading and editing what I wrote. Was not disappointed, and in fact, ended up adding words while I edited.

Well, that's my little NaNo kick-off story, now what's yours?
Update on Thursday Nov 5 Write-In

Hey all. I got my days mixed up and I have to work on Thursday--but don't let that stop you all from gathering at the North Panera (on Academy) from 2-4 to pound out some words.

And perhaps I'll be a bit more on top of my own schedule when we get next week's write-ins up :P
Last minute story change?

So I had this fantastic idea for my novel. I started planning it mid-September or so and the characters and the world they inhabit were truly gaining a life of their own. I knew the beginning, the ending, crucial scenes and more.

About four days ago I got completely sick of it.

So now I'm just tossing it all away and starting something else with very little planning. I've got a semblance of an idea; maybe two characters fleshed out, a bit of world and setting info, and the main situation the characters are in. That' s it.

On one hand, it's a bit scary to not know where they're going, or how they overcome the main challenge, but at the same time I'm truly excited to get started. I don't know how this story will end, and now I really want to write it just to see the ending.

Has anyone else done this? Or am I just crazy? Did I over think the first story?

The Who's Who for Colorado Springs!

Welcome to NaNo 2009!

This year, you have your very awesome ML team returning--that would be myself (Sara or Nia) along with Kelly Felix and ihatepeas (Sarah). We are gearing up for another amazing year of literary abandon, and we are thrilled that you are joining us!

To get thing started, let's introduce ourselves in this thread. Newbies and veterans alike, let us know if you are going to be noveling with us in November...and any other details we might need or like to know!

___________________

My name is Sara, and this is my sixth year (well, fifth if we don't count the crazy year in '06 when I thought I'd write, but I went to Africa instead...) as a NaNo novelist. It is my fifth year as ML for Colorado Springs.

In my spare time I mentor teen writers on an online forum, I write, and I've recently taken up RockBand. I love writing, love hanging out with creative people, and can't wait to meet you all!

Okay, so wraithfound (Hope) says she ML of monument and said she applied for us to have our own forum, but not sure what happened there, so, yeah, we're kind of stuck with Colorado SPrings. But anyway, LP's NaNo group is ACTUALLY being sponsored by an ENGLISH teacher this year. Meetings are after school on thursdays, and if you can't come, let me or RIku know, so we're both the president this year. (Yes, you do have co-presidents. Fear us. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, it's really more like fear the senior, since I'm a senior, but, whatever, you should also probably fear RIku too....)

I'm available on Tuesdays, Friday evenings, and weekends. Since I'm fairly new to the area (moved here in April!) I have no idea for decent spots. Someone make a suggestion?
The Colorado Springs Dare Thread

We had to have it. It's a yearly tradition, even though it sort of fizzled last year.

This dare thread is just for us C. Springs region WriMos, because it's fun to dare people that you might actually see at a write-in once in a while, and because most of us don't have the time to sit and skim the pages and pages of dares in the plot doctoring forum. Keep in mind that we all write in different genres, so posting a variety of dares or slightly more generalized ones are both good ideas.

So! Have at it! I'll post a few to get you started:

*Include a fellow WriMo as a minor character.

*Include a hearse getting gas at a 7-11.

*Include two men juggling while jogging.

*Include this sentence: "He swept me off my feet, and he's never done any sweeping since.

*Have your main character get summoned for jury duty right in the middle of the action.

Write-Ins for Downtown Colorado Springs Wrimos!

Hello again! In case no one knows who I am (and you really shouldn't as this is a new pen name for the new season!) I am/was PhelpsnHamm and I'm here to invite any and all Wrimos to join my roommate Jaina and I for write-ins at my house during the insanity that is November.

We were discussing days of the week and times, and we think that Thursdays are going to work. Times are TBA, and we'll have more concrete ideas for that once we've kicked started November.

Feel free to message me or Jaina with questions.

Happy Nano season, one and all!

south-side write ins?

Widefield, Security, Fountain, south-side of Colorado Springs, Broadmoor areas: calling all writers!

Unless there is just no way anyone can get there, I'll be holding the Write-ins at the Panera at Southgate on MONDAY nights from 6pm to 7:30pm. I know I said Wednesday first, but Mondays might be better (except for NFL fans). I would suggest having the write ins at a sports bar, but some of you wouldn't be able to get in, and I would certainly not get any writing done! So, if you're still interested, our first southern write in will be Monday, November 2. We'll do some timed writings, but this first one should be for getting to know each other and just getting into the Nano groove!

And don't forget that Narniaprincess will be at the Powers Panera all day on Sunday. This would be a great time to get ahead of your word count for those slow days when nothing seems to be moving in the brain. Hope to see you all there! K
Regional PepTalk Email #1 (because it might not go out via email...sorry!)

We've only just begun...

Well, it's almost 10 pm on November 1, and the flurry has begun. Today you took the hardest step of all--you stared down a blank page and you dared to put something on it. Now that you are in motion, we are told, it's easier to stay in motion! However, life is going to try and throw you some curve balls this week. You are going to remember that the laundry needs to be done, that your boss still wants that report, and that your body doesn't run on imagination alone. And I'm here to remind you that it's okay to give some time to those things, in fact, you should, but do not let them pull you away from this wonderful journey you have begun!

How do you do that you ask? Easy--find your motivation. The first year I did NaNo, I signed up for one reason. I knew that in 4 short months I would be traveling to Peru to visit my sponsored child, Sandra. In my previous visit, Sandra had asked if I had finished a novel. When I told her no, she was a bit crushed. So, knowing that I was going to see her again, and knowing I needed something to kick me into gear, I joined NaNo. And when I saw Sandra in February the next year, the first thing she asked was if I had finished a novel yet. I was able to hand her a copy of my draft. Both of us were thrilled.

Sandra was my motivation (and ended up being the inspiration for my main character that year!). She kept me writing even when I had a long day at work, when I was sick, when I was ready to throw it all away and never write again. Thanks to her, I now have four complete novels and another three in progress (not counting this year's NaNo!).

So, before you sit down to write again, take a few minutes to find your motivation. Write it on a note card, post a picture of it on the bathroom mirror, post it on your facebook status--whatever it takes to remind you what it is. And then, get back to writing!

We had an amazing turn out at our all day write-in, with 27 writers stopping by to work the words! A few of you forgot to let us know word counts before you left, but our known total is 57,884--which means we once again wrote a complete novel between us all today!

Thank you all for being the most amazing region. Your ML's love and adore you, and remember, we are here to help you. We do everything except household chores :P

Write well!

Hello all--

We did it last year and had a blast, so we are doing it again. We'll be camped out at the Panera on Powers from 8 am to 8 pm on Sunday, November 1st.

We will NOT be in the community room, so just look for some table tents. The staff are prepared (and looking forward!) to having us there. We'll do some word wars, help each other get over those first plot hurdles, and have a lot of fun as we start off on our 50K journey together!
