New Writer in Montrose

I signed up to start wring last year but my November didn't work out.
I am currently starting a outline and character sketches for the novel I hope to do this November, I realize this might be rather early to start...or maybe it's rather late :)

From looking at this forum Grand Junction was a rather active group, are there any in Montrose?
It also looks like noone posts here off season.

I was hoping some did, perhaps some do the other writing contests in the year like JulNoWriMo?

Hello, fellow writers,
Here is meeting info we came up with at the WriMo launch party Saturday night. We'll get together to write during January:

Thursday evenings, starting January 3rd
7:00 p.m. at Starbuck's Coffee in Clifton
570 32 Road (next to Blockbuster & near Walgreen's)
We're trying Starbuck's. If it doesn't work out well, we'll change locations.

Tuesday mornings, starting January 8th
10:00 a.m. at Starbuck's Coffee in Clifton

If some folks want to meet on Jan. 1st as well, just send out an invitation.

Grand Junction 50K-in-Jan.-Club LAUNCH PARTY-MEETING

A GJ 50K-in-Jan.-Club launch party -meeting is planned. You're invited if you live in Grand Junction vicinity and are interested in writing 50,000 new words in January 2008 with the support, encouragement, and competition of buddy-writers.

The launch meeting will take place: SATURDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Steve's place--3078 Sandpiper Avenue. Bring a "pot-luck snack" if you wish. If you would like a T-shirt that Steve has designed for Jan. 08 Nanos, he will make you one at the launch; you choose the size and color; your cost is his cost: $8. DIRECTIONS: Take 30 Road south to D Road; turn left. Go east on D Rd. to Alamo; turn left. Go north on Alamo to Sandpiper; turn left. Steve's house is in that block, right side of street; sand-colored siding with brown trim. If you get lost, call him at 263-8639.

Traders Coffee - Mondays in Dec.

Every Monday night at about 6:30, we'll write very seriously in Traders Coffee.

Or somewhat seriously.

Okay, mostly we talk. But that's good, too, and there's plenty of tables and every one of them has an electric outlet so there's opportunities to write, say, at a table nearby.

Grand Junction - 50k in January Club

A group of writers will be meeting weekly to write 50,000 new words in January 08. Start the year in full swing with us. We'll meet twice a week--a morning and an evening at a local coffee shop. Greetings, everyone! I wanted to let y'all know that the article I wrote for the Free Press re: NaNo is in today's paper, Nov. 29, 2007. You guys made the front page! Woo hoo!

I wanted to thank everyone again who was at Borders the other night, especially those who agreed to be interviewed (Megan, Heather, Rodney, and Amy), and those who didn't kill me when I took their photograph. Here's hoping that more would-be writers will join us next year. In the meantime, how's everyone doing???

Hello all!

How about Border's one last time this month? It's open til 10 (possibly later? Can't remember) which is good for maximum writing time. See you there at 7!

In case you missed it in the last forum post I made, Marjorie, a fellow GJ NaNo (her username is Lorcan) will be stopping by Tuesday night. She freelances for the Free Press and would like to do an article on NaNoWriMo in the valley. She said she'd be interviewing some people and probably taking a few pictures. Anyone who doesn't want to be involved doesn't have to be, I'm sure, but I think it'll be neat!

How about having our "The End" party at Old Chicago? 7pm, Dec. 1st. Rather than have a full meal there (I for one am poor!) how about we just have drinks and appetizers if we want them? Sound good? Please RSVP to me by Friday afternoon, either by replying here or by emailing me. I need to know how many people will be there so I can call ahead and make sure we get a big enough table. If you know someone would like to come, but they don't check the forums or get my emails, please either ask them to stop by here and post, or email me. Whatever number I have by Friday afternoon will be the one I call the restaurant with with; if you haven't let me know by then, you're on your own for a seat!

GRAND JUNCTION--"The End" party?

Hello, novelists! In just over a week, we will all, hopefully, have earned that title to the fullest! How is everyone doing with their word counts? I've amazed myself by not falling behind a single day this month (though that's due entirely, I'm sure, to not being in school this year). I always find it to be a downward slope to 50,000 by this point in the month. It's not always easy, but for me at least, it seems to go quickly.

Since November 30th will be upon us in just a short while, I think it's time to start thinking about our celebration! I know there's a big "Thank God It's Over" party in San Fransisco at the NaNoWriMo headquarters every year, and other parties all over the world on the last day of noveling. Would we like to join in here in Grand Junction?

Since many of us, I'm sure, will be typing or scrawling the last few words frantically up until the very last second on the 30th, and since December 1st is a Saturday, I think the 1st would be the best date for a celebration party. Please share your thoughts about what this party should be like. Should we meet at Boders, Trader's, or Barnes and Noble like we've been doing? Would anyone like to volunteer their house, or another space that would accomodate 10-15 people? If we're not at a cafe, who would like to volunteer to bring snacks or drinks?

Please reply to this post with suggestions, as well as a thought about where to have this Tuesday's writing group (that's the 27th at 7pm). I look forward to seeing you all in a few more days, and to reading lots of awesome party suggestions! Happy Thanksgiving!

Longmont Write-A-Thon!

If some of you WriMos in northeast Colorado would like to participate in the Write-A-Thon on Saturday, Nov 24th, but Denver is a bit too far afield for you to go, then I hope you will join us in Longmont. Details:

There are a few of us who cannot make it to Lone Tree on the 24th, but would like to join in the spirit of the day, too. I am planning on writing at my house and I would like to invite any local WriMos who cannot make it to Lone Tree to come by and join me. There will be food. You can bring a beverage.

I will also accept check donations to Office of Letters and Light. If people want to compete, great! I encourage that. Prizes will be lots of love and encouragement. Please RSVP here if you can, but come even if you don't know if you can make it until the last minute.

THE WRITE-A-THON WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH FROM 3:30PM-9PM (GIVE OR TAKE A ½ HOUR).

WE WILL BE MEETING IN THE OFFICE EVOLUTION BUILDING IN PARK MEADOWS. THE ADDRESS IS:

THE WRITE-A-THON FEE IS:
$8.50 per writer (may be waived with exceptional sad/sob story).

A DELICIOUS DINNER OF PIZZA, SUBS, VEGGIES, FRUITS, AND HIGHLY CAFIENATED BEVERAGES WILL BE SERVED FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE. ALL PICKY EATERS WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN PICKY MEALS.

Hi Grand Junction!

As usual, there will be a group at Trader's Coffee at 10am on Tuesday. There will also be a group of us at Border's at 7 in the evening. Feel free to show up earlier or later than that, too, I'm sure *someone* will be there. Remember to get a "buy 5 drinks, get the sixth one free" card there if they're still handing them out! Novel fuel!

Also I thought I'd let everyone know about a reading at Coffee Muggers (approx. Main and 7th) this Saturday the 17th from 7-9:30. I can't remember who the readers will be, but the excerpts looked interesting. After that there will be an open mic, so if you'd like to share some of your own fiction (maybe a NaNo excerpt?) or I think even poetry, bring it along! Sorry for the short notice, but hopefully I'll see some of you there!

Hello, Durango people! Seems a lot of DHS students are attempting NaNo this year. So here's where you can hang out (and of course, talk about what you posted the next day at school). All Durango NaNoers are welcome here, of course, student or not!
Also, we're planning to have a get-together on Saturday the 13th at the Steaming Bean. We'll explain NaNoWriMo in greater detail to the people who are thinking about doing it but only have a vague idea of what's going on. We can also just chat about our plots and panic together about what we're getting ourselves into. Hope to see you there!

Coincidence of great proportions today. Two ladies with the same name found a stopping place in their writing. One said she had 24,191. The other said no way---she looked at her word count and had exactly the same amount. How many times does that happen? Anyone else got a story?
