Hi everyone! I'm Viki, your ML for the region of Tampa. You'll be getting your first 'official' e-mail from me soon, but let's get the boards warmed up. I love the activity I'm seeing already (and can already tell we'll need to see about a Brandon write-in!), and more makes me smile.

Help with story on NaNo/Tampa writing scene for new on-line magazine?

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a feature about the Tampa Bay region's writing scene for the area's new on-line magazine, 83 Degrees (www.83degreesmedia.com). While the story will focus generally on the writing community in this area, I want to illustrate our area's passion for writing by including a prominent mention of NaNoWriMo and the folks who are committed enough to try something crazy like this.

Ideally, I'd love to send the site's photographer to a centrally located, well-attended write-in. If anyone has any suggestions or would be willing to talk to me for the story, please let me know via NaNo-mail or at cgaddis@prodigy.net. I'm trying to get a real feel for what makes this area a fertile ground for writers. The more folks I can talk to about it, the better!

Pinellas County write-in this weekend?

Anyone up for a Pinellas County write-in this weekend? I was thinking Sunday, maybe around 2 (that worked last time!) but I would be open to suggestions for other times or Saturday suggestions (it would have to be earlier on Saturday, though). We could stay at the B&N at 19 and Sunset, or switch it up and go to Borders in Clearwater Mall, or we could do the main library.

If you're interested, let me know preferences for place and time! I'll make a final decision and post it in the Confirmed write-ins thread if there's enough interest.

Local Tampa authors are hosting a half-day writers workshop Saturday Nov 21, just before the day of writing dangerously (22nd). Writers Conference in a Box (http://writersconferenceinabox.com) runs from 10am-3pm. An hour for lunch is on your own. Cost: $25

Hi everyone! You guys are doing such a great job at setting up write-ins that it makes me squee a little! However, I'm having a hard time keeping up with who's going where and when. If you've set up a write-in or plan to be in a location and want to invite others to join you, please reply to this thread letting everyone know the location, the date (or if it's weekly, what day of the week), and the time range you're planning on being there. ONLY reply here if you're confirmed for this--we're not looking for debates on when to show up, etc!

Random Plot Twists and other stuff!

Everyone runs into a wall at some point. EVERYONE. In fact, it was running into that wall that got Stephen King run over later in life!

He was stuck while writing The Stand. What did he do? He went for a walk. Along his walk he figured out what he had to do. He killed a major character and everything flowed out from there. He liked his daily walk so much that it was a habit that he carried on until that fateful day when he was run down by a guy driving to the store for a Mars bar.

I don't want anyone in here run over because they hit a wall!

So, why don't we just post random plot twists, and generic writing prompts that will spur someone into writing something so they don't go for a walk and later get run over doing it!

Hey, I'm trying to save lives here!

Here's a few to get the ball rolling:

A minor character has something dark and nasty about their past that they would rather not have come out.

The toaster has a vendetta against you. It burns only your toast and no one else's. Also, it knows it gets under your skin!

Incorporate the line "With Havoc cried, the dogs of war were let loose."

I'd love to see others post here and it would be cool if anyone uses one, let us know how it went!

Help from a Hillsborough Resident?

Hi guys, I'm looking for one or a few volunteers. I've set up a couple of blocks of write-in time with two of the Pasco County libraries in their meeting rooms. I'm hoping to do the same for Hillsborough, but as I'm not a county card holder, I'm likely to run into some issues. I'll try and call Tuesday when someone's around to explain the dilemma, but I'd love to have several times anyway.

I wanted to put out a feeler to see if anyone was willing to do a november 14th write in. I tried running this through the ML but she hasnt responded so I am leaving it up to you guys. The date is Saturday November 14 and the time is prolly 12 to whenever they let us stay till. So say yes or not its your choice
