The plan

So to keep up with the word count schedule I'd set for myself I need to write 6,000 words today. To keep each section the size I'd intended each one needs to be about 2,000 words long. So I'll be writing in spurts today. I'll get 2,000 words done at a shot and take a break between sections.
North Side Write-in Schedule (finalized)

I figured I'd post this anew, so it doesn't get lost in the old thread. So! Just as a reminder for any North Side wrimos looking to meet up, here is the schedule we decided on:

Mondays: 6 pm, Starbucks at Kierland Commons
Wednesdays: 6 pm, Borders at Tatum/Cactus
Saturdays: 1 pm, White August Tea
Sundays: 1 pm, Scooter's Coffeehouse

Tonight (Monday 11/2) is the first write-in. I will probably be heading over a bit early tonight, so I'll try to stake out one of those nice big tables for us. Feel free to show up early, late, and leave whenever you like (this particular Starbucks is open until 10 pm).

Hope to see you there!

Evaluate the above poster's excerpt...

I know this happens in the genre forums all the time, but well, I'm curious as to what the people in my home region are writing!!! So, if you guys are game, what about a little constructive criticism on our pieces?

Read the excerpt of the WriMo who posted above you. Tell us what you think, offer some suggestions, and then wait for someone to do the same to you.

Also, if you could post the name of the person you're evaluating as well as your review, because occasionally more than one person replies at once and things can get confusing. :)

@ the person that gets mine...
It's in my Novel Synopsis!

Just checking for the Glendalers out there. Anyone interested for a writing session at the Main Library or something? Or maybe someone for word wars to keep me honest.

Using the library comp at the moment (don't ask) so might be bit getting back to ya.
I hit my wordcount goal of the day!

Hey all you PheNoWrimo-ers! Here's a fun little thread I thought might be a nice motivator to have around, so use if you will, ignore if you won't. This is the place you can proclaim your ecclesiastical joys of hitting the ever-daunting quota of the day without shame, and show off your finest moments at the same time. Whether you're aiming for the 1,667-word-a-day minimum, or setting your sights higher to an averaged 2,000 words or more, tell us all here and strut in glory. Simply say "I hit my wordcount goal of the day!", tell us your total wordcound, do a little jig, and post your best passage of the day. Sentence, paragraph, page, doesn't matter, as long as your basking on your daily success!

---------------

I, myself have happily hit my wordcount goal of 3,333 words today, and now stand at a total of 3,342 words! :)

"As the speed of the sparks reached a peak, something deep inside me seemed to shift ever so slightly; the cold, the night, the wind, all disappeared, and I was suspended—perhaps for a year, perhaps in the blink of an eye—in a torper of cocconed nothingness. The ground beneath my feet vanished, faded away as if it had never been. Time—what was time?—it lost its meaning so fully that my memories, carefully ordered chronologically at normal times, blurred together, and I could imagine that yesterday had brought about both my first steps and my first fight, one after another. "

Who's next?
----------
"Procrastinate today. Don't put it off."
Ah! Writers Block!

Knowing I'd likely only have a couple minutes to write today I decided that last night my word count goal was 4000 words. So I sat down at the computer and... nothing. I couldn't even think of a place to start writing. Not a scene I could use, not a character to write about, not a set piece to work into something. Just a complete and total blank.

Three hours later I finally decided that enough was enough and I went to bed.

So frustrating when I was doing so well.
I'm still here! Just behind

Hello, everyone. It's me, Carol. I'm still here. I am really behind in my word count, mainly because I'm behind in my writing.
I blame it on my husbsnd! I had to take him to the ER last Friday, stayed with him the whole time, through his surgery a few days later and the days he remained in the hospital. He is finaly home, but not doing great, but at least I hope to get to do some writing when he's resting.
I plan to double or triple my writing word count over the next few days, so that I can catch up.
Though my count is low, I'm finding it facinating and am amazed at how the story takes over, especially since I had no clue as to what to write about on the first. I think I'm in love with NaNoWriMo already.
Not whinning, just wanted to let you all know, I don't give up!
wrimo roll call!

hello, all! time for "who is your daddy, and what does he do?" i kid, i kid! how about "who are you, and what is your novel about?" yeah, that sounds better.

i'm rozeecheeks/rhia, and i'm your ML. i'm a framer at a craft store. when i'm not writing (meaning every month other than november) i knit and read christopher moore books. i also spend a lot of time at soccer practice and school events with my partner and our two little ones.

my first nano year was 2005. in 2006, katantion and i took over ML duties when Mea Culpa stepped down. last year, we split into phoenix and east valley. katantion and nekowriternyan are the ML's over there.

my novel is in a genre that i really don't know a lot about. the plot just sort of jumped out at me and shoved my other plot down a flight of stairs. it's about a medical transcriptionist who starts receiving voice files in which someone is plotting a murder. she has to use the clues she's given in each upload to keep it from happening.

ready? set? go!

so the kick off was on sunday, and the turn out was excellent. we had more wrimos show up than in the other four years i've participated. most were new faces, which is great. mike (sorry, not sure of your username!) sent me a picture. it's posted on the phoenowrimo website (http://phoenowrimo2009.weebly.com). if you're in the picture, please email me at phoenowrimo@gmail.com with your username and which one you are so i can list you on the site. the only person that i know so far is rabidlars. sadly, i had a stomach bug, along with everyone else in my family, so i couldn't stay long, and there were no planned activities. but i hope everyone had a good time anyway. :)

the midnight kick off is scheduled for this saturday night from 11pm-2am. for the past few years, we've met at the ihop at central and virginia, but it seems to be too far for most of us. this year we will meet at the country boys restaurant at 35th ave. and cactus. it's located just north of cactus on the west side. if you reach sweetwater (heading north) or cactus (heading south), you've gone too far. in case you want to google map it, the address is 3508 w. cactus rd., phoenix 85029.

as i've stated before, the food is fairly inexpensive. they have a breakfast special for $3.99 that would be plenty for 2 people (or 1 very hungry person). drinks are 1.99, and they have coke products. i wouldn't recommend the ice tea; it has artificial lemon flavoring. i've never had the coffee, but if you really want to stay up to write, you'll risk it. they also have pie. i've never tried that either, but hey, it's pie. i have 2 for 1 coupons, so if you can't afford food, maybe someone will let you get a free meal on their ticket or even split the check 50/50. it does require the purchase of a drink, but only one. please be sure to bring at least a couple of dollars, even if it's only change, to buy a drink or tip the waitress. i chose this location due to their hours and their prices. the manager has been generous enough to give us the back area, so we will have more quiet and privacy than in past years.

there will be no outlets for your laptop. please be sure it's fully charged or bring a pen and paper as backup.

if anyone would like to stay past 2, you are welcome to do so. if you need to come late or leave early, that's fine as well. if you stay later as a group, please compensate your waitress. leave them with a good impression of nanowrimo.

also, anyone who comes in costume will receive a treat!
November 5th Write In...

Is anyone planning to go?

I got here a bit early (had some work to do before sitting down to write), and when 11:30 rolled around no one was there. Is this about what I should expect from the Thursday Write-In's ? If so then I may as well stay home and save the gas.

*Note: It is only 11:40 at this point, and someone else may still turn up. Still though...
West Side - Litchfield or McDowell? Vote now or forever hold your peace!

See above title...

Also, if you want McDowell or Litchfield but are willing to go to the other if the majority comes to that consensus please state that too. Remember the goal is to have a decent sized group so we can all encourage each other. Also, remember that we can carpool too. I am definitely the farthest out yet I am willing to travel.

Ok now let the voting begin.

I selfishly vote for Litchfield.
absent again...

i feel like a bad ML. a few extra hours were offered at work this week, and i snatched them up. when you only get 12 hours a week on average, you take what you can get. the trouble, though, is that it's today from 3-9:30. i'm so sad to be missing another write-in, especially when i'm already so far behind. :(

so i won't be at bookmans, and i'm disapppointed. is there anyone who can set up/tear down the tables and chairs? please text me, as i won't be near my computer after about 9 this morning. 623-252-9825 (it's a google voice number, don't worry!)
West Side Wednesday Write-in

Hi all,

Bookman's isn't too close to me, so I don't know how many events I'll be able to attend there. I'm in Sun City, but can easily get to Peoria, Glendale, Surprise.

If anyone is interested in a weekly write in on Wednesdays at the B&N or Borders on Bell Road, let me know and we'll make it happen. Wednesdays don't conflict with the standing Phoenix events, so there's no concern there.

Blogging Your Novel This Year?

I've blogged each of my Nanovels. I've found the demand of an audience breathlessly waiting for the next installment quite motivating. I've built kind of a rabid following over the last several years. There aren't many of them, but they get squirelly if not placated with new fiction. ;)

Anyway, here's where this year's novel will live: http://holyrollers-immortals.blogspot.com/

Here's a description of the plot: When Death becomes too depressed to get out of bed and do his job, people stop dying. Chaos and creation erupt as humanity's fear of death vanishes. Accountants become daredevils. Repressed geniuses unleash their great works. And certain gods get pissed off by mankind's newfound cheekiness and refusal to die when properly killed. Our favorite unemployed biker deities return to restore the natural order until Death cheers up enough to resume his work.

So, will you be blogging your novel? If so, post your URL!

File Syncing

I don't know how many on here use multiple computers, but I know that I fall into this category. As such I generally save files to a USB stick to take them to my laptop or from my laptop to my computer.

However I found a new program that I thought might be useful to some. It's called Dropbox and it makes syncing files really easy. The program creates a directory wherever you choose (My Documents by default). Then anything you put in this directory is automatically uploaded to their servers. Then on your laptop where you have the program installed the files automatically appear in the folder that you have setup on that computer.

I have just tested it and it worked seamlessly. I edited my file from the dropbox folder, and almost as soon as I had saved the changes were available on the other computer. Works really well, just make sure you sync up before leaving the house to a place without wifi.

You can check out the app at: www.getdropbox.com/

Hope this helps somebody make life a little easier with two computers.

Anyone else out there have any recommendations on keeping your files organized and in sync between two different computers?
