Come join us for writing, griping, cheering and butt-kicking (if necessary)!

Where: Wilfred Oram Library, North Sydney (Google map right here: http://tinyurl.com/ygto9bz)
When: Wednesday, Nov. 18th, 6:30-9 p.m.

If you aren't familiar with the library, when you walk in the doors just keep walking straight to the back--we'll be in the back room and you can't miss us. I'll have special NaNoWriMo stickers to give away, that you can only get at write-ins! And I'll also have some other word-inducing goodies in case your story is running into trouble.

Bring your laptop, or paper and pen to write longhand! Not sure how many outlets there are but I'll have a power bar available.

If you've never been to a write-in before, please don't be intimidated! All you do is: show up. write. have fun. What could be easier? :) NNWM participants of all ages are welcome!

Hello, my poor neglected Capers! Are you feeling left out and dejected?

Let me explain where I've been. On the Friday before NaNo started I slipped a disc in my back, so I've been pretty much laid up since then. We did have an initial meetup (I sent representatives!) with a small turnout, but I think everyone who was there had fun. This weekend I didn't set anything up since I'm still not very mobile, but I'm hoping by next weekend we can get together again.

However, in the meantime, we could be doing some online meetups and write-ins, so....

Let's get together online tonight (Monday) from 9-10. We can have some word wars if you'd like, or just chat and write together. The nice thing about this is that everyone in CB can participate, it doesn't matter which side or end of the Island you're on. Hi folks! Are you behind? Do you need a solid day for focusing and being with others who are also focusing? Are you in OH SHIT! mode, or do you need a pick-me-up after the second week of NaNo?

FEAR NOT, MY WRIMOS! BEHOLD, the All-Day Write-In Catch-Up Extravaganza!!

It's like the All-Day Write-In Marathon Kick-Off, except it's Mid-Month, and rather than try to get a headstart, we use this day to catch up on our wordcount! Also, I didn't like the acronym that came with "Catch-Up Marathon". Some of us are generally very busy through the month, so here is a day for you to get away from the rest of the world to literally just sit down and write

Introduce Yourself!

These threads are always in every section on every single forum I've been to. Being a first year ML there are a lot of you I don't know (and a lot of new faces as well. I think there is something like 10 new people who have affiliated with our region since last NaNo), so here it is!

Name: Diana
Age (an approximation will work as well): 21
How Many years have you done NaNo: this will be my second attempt.
Which section of Nova Scotia are you from?(You don't have to put your town, just the area) I live in the Halifax area
Are you planning on coming to the events and write ins for your area? ...It'd be pretty bad if I wasn't considering I'm running a few of them

This section, you don't have to answer it if you don't want to, but we all like knowing more about each other

What Genre are you writing? Well, I'm pretty sure I'm writing a teen geek romance novel, but it could be an adventure. I haven't completely decided on that yet
Do you eat more with a fork, or a spoon? actually, I eat a lot of "finger" foods, so it's more often I'm using my hands, but when I do use utensils, generally I use a fork.
What's your favourite toothpaste? I like Colgate! And if I can get "weird" flavours (anything that isn't mint) I'm a happy camper
If I gave you a dollar, what would you do with this dollar? I would probably then give it to someone else, as giving myself a dollar is weird. Unless I needed bus money, then I suppose that money would go into the money thing on the bus.
What's your favourite NaNo food? bagels. They are so easy and quick to make, plus they fill me up. That reminds me *Adds bagels to her shopping list*

If you count yourself as to be living in the Halifax Regional Municipality, please check into this thread! (Yes, it's necessary, especially if you want to come out to events, since I like to know how many people to expect!)

Frazzledog will be covering the Dark Side, and I will be covering the, uh, boring-er side, I guess, of Halifax.

We will have meetups, as usual, at the Paperchase Cafe in downtown Halifax, and as a bonus, also at the Alderney Gate Library! There may also be random meetups elsewhere. We will be making some of it up as we go along.

However! Some of the events have already been planned! Presenting, our official HaNoWriMoNS calendar! Do check it out, since we've already booked the room at Alderney Gate and the proprietress of Paperchase expects us to trudge in and take over the cafe. Friendly Reminder: Backup your work

Please take a moment and backup your files. I am currently going through the five stages of grief over the loss of everything I wrote today.

While I was have a short break for reaching another word mile stone, my computer randomly decided to update itself. It shut down and all progress I made today is lost. I’ve looked for the auto-saves and backed up files...gone. I was hoping that when I reopened word it would have a “this file was recovered”...nope. All brillence (and crap) written today is lost to the digital void.

Please do not let yourself become a victim...save your doc. Now!

Unfortunately, the library is closed on public holidays, so we've got to move to the Chase for our write-in. Official deets:

NaNo technologies!

I wanted to make this thread so that instead of having 3 links up in the links section (did you know we have a links section? click on the regional info tab, and you'll see all the links for important threads, and also information on how many people we have active, homed, and also new to nano this year!) I can link this thread for everyone to see

The first item is twitter. Twitter has gotten really big lately, with everyone and their dog on there. Halifax has a twitter which can be found here. We've been using it to update on how many days are left, letting people know about meetings, and, I admit, to compete in a contest NaNo was holding via twitter (I didn't win, but I loved all the winning entries). If anyone has any ideas on what we can do with twitter, leave a comment!

Next is the chat room! You can find the page here. On that page it has instructions on how to register your handle, which is not completely necessary, but it helps from someone coming in and "stealing" your name. If anyone has any ideas on how to play with the chat during NaNo, leave a comment as well!

Now this next item, isn't just for Nova Scotia. I found it last year, and it definitely helped me get over a couple of word hurdles. This AMAZING site is called Dr. Wicked's Write or Die. It has different modes that range in craziness. Gentle mode has a pop up that tells you when you've stopped to keep writing. Normal mode plays several different annoying sounds when you stop. Kamikaze mode literally erases your words if you stop writing. It's a great motivator to keep those fingers going. You can set it to "finish" at a certain word goal, or after a time period. And there is also a "break" button in case nature calls during your writing. But use it carefully, cause you can only use it once per session!

Hey there guys! The all day write in went really well last night! I'm glad so many people made it out! This year we have a partnership with the Alderny Gate Library. We will be holding meetings there on Wednesday evenings, except for Remembrance Day (they are closed on holidays, but we are working out something for that day though)

So, this week, November 4th, we are meeting from 5-9pm in the library board room which is upstairs. There is table space for 12, but there is also couches, so the room can hold about 20 people. If you are planning on coming, just leave a quick note in this thread to let us know! (I say quick, cause I don't want to take people from their novels for TOO long)
