Mount Vernon/ Burlington/ Sedro Woolley Area Write In

I know there are some writer in the area that might have a issue of getting out to the Bellingham area. This being said I know that we could meet up for a write-in at Skagit Valley College or a Starbucks. Let me know what people wish to do and let's set it up.

What's Your Progress?

So how are you doing? What's your word count? Are you going fast or slow? Are you worried about that? Just a general progress report.

Currently I'm at 1110 words, and I think I'm going at a fairly steady pace. So far there hasn't been much in the way of story or plot problems.

Since I haven't made it to a single meeting so far, and I won't until next week, I thought I'd wheedle everyone into sharing bits and pieces of your NaNo that you had fun writing. ^__^ (One of my favorite part of the meetings is making people read me their work, so I guess I'll just have to settle for c&p.)

Here's one from me:

When someone rattled the door, the clay beads clacked together so loudly that Ketra jumped and poked herself with a needle. She glanced up in annoyance. The shop was closed. The sign said as much, and she'd kept the lamps in the workroom low, so even if someone was silly enough to come shopping for wigs after dark, they wouldn't be tempted to bang on the door and bother her like this jerk was doing.

The mystery customer stopped rattling and started knocking. She was just about to go up front and tell them to knock it off when they finally got the idea.

Blessed quiet settled over the work room once more. She sucked the bead of blood from her fingertip and went back to wrestling with the ugliest wig she'd ever made, the silence broken only by her curses. For some unknown reason, the noblewoman who'd commissioned it had paid someone to bring her light-colored hair from far away. It was going to make her look old, Ketra thought, or like her hair had died and only a ghost of it still remained. To make things worse, long pale hair hadn't been available, and with all of it cropped to finger-length, the finished product looked a bit like an ox scrotum.

A sudden gust of magic blew through the shop. Like air, it ruffled what wasn't tied down, but unlike air, it also passed through the objects. She felt its cold flutter in her gut.

Write-Ins

I'm looking forward to hearing from our ML about pre-Nano get-togethers and official write-ins, but in the meantime let's post our ideas for unofficial, mini write-in sites. Getting together with other wrimos is encouraging and fun! Post your neighborhood and then discuss ideas.

My daughter and I (maybe two daughters) can meet evenings and weekends (except Sunday morning). I prefer to not have to drive into downtown Bellingham (what a wimp I am--I used to live in Tacoma, Seattle, San Jose--but Bellingham is too big for me now. LOL!) but I will do it if that's the only way to meet with others.

My ideal spot is:

--not too busy

--not too noisy

--equipped with outlets for laptops that don't hold a good charge (like mine)

--equipped with WiFi (because this year I'm writing on Google Docs)

The following are places that appeal to me. I don't know if any of them have WiFi--it was never an issue for me before. LOL

Ferndale/North Bellingham: My daughter and I held our own mini write-ins every Saturday morning last year at Greene's Corner (Northwest Avenue and Smith Road). We aren't sure if we'll do the same thing this year--we want to go where other wrimos will come, too.

Ferndale: Woods Coffee is a very pleasant place to work, especially if you can snag a seat by the fireplace in the loft. :D

Birch Bay/Lynden Road: There is a rustic-looking coffee shop just east of I-5. I've never been there to see what it's like, but it looks like a fun, atmospheric place from the outside.

My story is about a group of survivalists (some of which are time travelers) who must survive through the anarchy and martial law brought on by the Apocalypse of Thren.
Then they have to fight Shadow Dragons in the climax.

I would like to try to make it to as many write in's as possible. If anything I'm sure they will be good places to study. But here is the point. I have a CAR. If you are willing to meet me I would be more than happy to take you to the write in's, Im going there anyway right. I figure this would be most usefull for the Frendaly location. Here are the conditions, 1 a donation for gass doesent have to be a lot spare change adds up. 2 i will meet you in a general location and drop you off in a general location. I dont want to be driving out to BFE. So if you are interested let me know.

Hi,

I just registered for NaNo--I've registered for several years in a row I should add but never wrote a word during the month of November! At least, not on a novel. I should add, in my defense, that I am a medical writer, so I spend my days writing and writing and more writing. While I do want to do fiction, my fingers are so weary by the end of the day.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone went to the meet your ML yesterday. Wondering if anyone is going today. Also, at Village Books this evening at 7pm, there is a free workshop with Dawn Groves to prepare you for NaNo. I was thinking of going, and hope to meet some fellow NaNo-ers.

Anyone stopping by Village Books at 7 for the class/meeting?

GoodSearch toolbar

Because this year I'm going the donating-when-you're-broke route (I did manage the ten dollar donation for a halo), I installed the GoodSearch toolbar.

I actually like it! I'm generally not a fan of toolbars, but it's not obnoxious, and it keeps a search box up there so I don't forget and default to Google. It also makes online shopping default to GoodShopping when possible- like amazon.com.

So yeah, I recommend it. :) Support NaNo!
