This year is over...

Wow. I can't believe it's over already. I know when I started the momentum was great and I had this small space of 30 days to write a novel in. In the second week of NaNoWriMo it seemed like the month was taking forever, but now not so much. Looking back it seems like we just started NaNoWriMo and it's just amazing that it's over already. I find that my nights are now hollow since the end of NaNoWriMo so I continue to write, though I'm not aiming for that 1667 words anymore. Now that it's gone, is anyone else feeling like you lost a best friend? Or is everyone happy that it's over? Both?

Somehow I don't quite think we can catch Seattle, but are we going to let Connecticut beat us? They have half as many words as we do!

I'm really hoping I can donate today even if it isn't much. Luckily we've raised enough to keep the site open through 2008, but since we're still short of our goal, if you can spare a few bucks, it would really make a difference.

We always tend to be a pretty spread-out NaNo group, with writers living all the way up and down the metro area from Forsyth to Henry county ... and everywhere left, right, and in between. I'm sure this year will be no different.

Let us know where you are! This'll be useful for planning get-togethers and write-in, as well as for finding out if you have any crazed NaNo-ing neighbors.

Me, I'm in Buckhead / Garden Hills, just a few blocks down from the gigantic Pit O' Dirt that used to be Buckhead Village.

My apologies for making two topics about donations, but I wanted to advertise that as clearly as I could. Because, you know, now our pride is at stake.

I know it's really late in the game to be starting stuff and many of you probably won't see this by tonight, but better late than never, right? According to the scoreboard, we're in third place for donations by a measly $145, and Connecticut :: Shoreline is beating us. We should be able to raise that easily! Now that I've potentially made us look dumb if we don't do anything by making a topic over there, those of us who haven't given anything yet kinda have to, right?

I'll repeat what I said to them:

It's the last day. NaNoWriMo is still $50,000 short of its goal for this year, and 95.2% of its users haven't given anything to the site. Unless we Wrimos rise to the occasion, the YWP and NaNo sites aren't going to get desperately needed upgrades for next year. If you've gotten something out of NaNo but haven't donated yet and can spare a few bucks, please, give a little something back! I'm flat broke, but I'm still going to try to do everything I can to give something, even if it's only $10, by the end of the day. If I can do it, so can you.

I'm really sorry for the late notice, but come on, guys! We can do it!

How many important characters does you novel have?

I thought I had three and now I have six. Yeah, I killed one of them and made another disappear, so they ended up becoming important characters that needed some description.

By the way, any thoughts on the number of characters to make a plot interesting and dramatic...

Three writers meet frequently in Conyers for write-ins...and will continue to do so for NaNo 07. During the spring and summer, we forged through thousands of words at Atlanta Bread Company (that is, until it closed for good. I like to think we BURNED IT OUT with our creative energy!! Ahem. I digress.) Then we took it to the Whistle Post Tavern and even Starbucks, and now there's a hip little coffee joint there that we might try as well. I stole this from another forum, but I forget where.

This November's proving more trying for me than the last two years have been, unfortunately. Several reasons for this.

1. The forums. I wasn't a forum addict till this year; what happened? I look at my word count, then my post count, and I sigh.

2. College applications and tests. I'm a senior in high school, and my first choice college has a deadline of December 1. Joy. I also need to take the SAT IIs on the first weekend in December, which means I need to study, since this is the absolute last test date I can take it. I'd really better stop procrastinating on that.

3. One of my cats starting having seizures on...Sunday, I believe it was. No idea what it was; all the tests came back clean, and seizures are very rare in cats. We tried to just treat the symptoms, but the sedative that's supposed to prevent seizures didn't, and they kept getting worse. Sadly, he died yesterday. Needless to say, I wasn't in the mood to write after that (or the day before, as we kept rushing him to the vet). Blech. Stuff happens, I guess.

So now I'm struggling to catch up, which is going to be awkward because I write really slowly. I've gotten behind the previous two years, but never by this much, and I hope I can manage to catch up. What about the rest of you?

I wrote 2014 words and i went to sleep at 2:00 because of it. It was fun though!

10K and counting, but will soon be mired down in ignorance. Like my little buddy, No. 5 the robot, in the delightful movie Short Circuit, I need input. My characters are a ghostly lot, but it would be nice to have some real experieces if any of you have had a a close encounter of the spiritual kind, or know a real neat story that somebody told you as true. This is a shot in the dark, but isn't most of what we do in Nano somewhat in that category?

Saturday Write-Ins at the Java Monkey

Hi all,

Last November, a group of us met every Saturday afternoon to write at the Java Monkey in Decatur. We'll be there again this year, starting on Saturday, November 3. I'll be getting there between 3:30 and 4 and probably leaving about 3 hours later, but I suspect if you show up anytime between 3 and 7, you'll find some NaNo people typing or scribbling away. In the past, we've usually grabbed a couple of the tables up front.

Anyone else who wants to join us is welcome! Java Monkey is located in downtown Decatur. Besides its tasty organic coffee, it also has a wine bar, and plenty of sandwiches and desserts.

I've posted this on our Yahoo Group's calendar as well, along with the Java Monkey address for anyone who needs it.

This Sunday Write-In at My Place?

I'm writing more or less the same post to the Yahoo group. I put a thing on the calender there.

For those of you around Candler Park, Little Five, Inman Park, Edgewood, Decatur,
Kirkwood, Grant Park, etc.:

This coming Sunday, from 2-7 or so, I've got room for about 10 people to sit on couches
or dining room chairs and tap away.

Drop on by!

We're about half a mile from the Edgewood-Candler Park MARTA station, for those
without cars.

If you let me know you're coming, then I can give you directions. I'm not sure yet if I want to post my home address to the wide open web.

If no one comes and it's just me here all day, then I'll be sad, but will probably write TONS.

Other people will surely be using other methods for their novels. Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, WordPad, and numerous other programs are for this purpose!

Someone suggested that if the nano forums continue to be slow we could use yahoogroups.

There is, btw, already a yahoogroups for mid-state GA but I went ahead and made one for the metro-Atlanta people. I've already uploaded the excel spreadsheet to track progress and woud love to see others join and get this nano-part started! So come join the yahoogroup where things are not moving quite so slowly. Of course, I'll still be here fighting with the nano boards to read messages on other boards but at least the metro-atlanta people can move away to perhaps reduce traffic. After all, we all know how slow things are when traffic is heavy, don't we?
