Winners boast thread!

We are beginning to see more and more green bars. So, this is the thread for all you winning authors to boast. Is the book finished if you are in the green? If not, what more do you need to get finished? How did you do it? How do you feel? (Especially our ML who apparently wanted to finish before Thanksgiving preps for her big family dinner!)
Hola from Laredo!

Hey, I'm Dani, and I'm writing from Laredo. Haven't been able to make it to any write-ins (would love to over the weekend), but I've been writing on my own in Laredo. I'm way behind on my word count, thanks to school and family obligations, so I just want to let you know I'm here to make myself accountable. :)
Write ins and such...

It seems like the write ins are going well and I would love to be able to go to one but they always seem to fall when my husband is working or I can't find a sitter or my daughter has soccer haha. I know that there might not be anyone who can but i would love it if a write in were scheduled during the week, during the day ie when my baby is at school. I am on a roll and optimistic although I am behind. I feel like a change of scenery would be a really nice boost. Anyway, just late night probably less than coherent thoughts. And thats all I will subject yall to for now.
Thanksgiving Week Write-ins?

Greetings!

My obligations are much less than normal this week. If anyone would like to work on a write-in or two or three during the week, let's set some up. I've done a couple of my own, or with my wife, but it's always nice to write with other nano-ers...and my wife has to work this week so she can't be there during the day to keep me company.
Unwritten

Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield - Lyrics

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Ready to cry

But it might turn out a good thing.

I've had sick kids, have family coming in next week, trying to get a new scout troop off the ground, and needing to be at church 3-4x/week for play practices, etc... I didn't touch my novel all week. Yesterday, I took the laptop to practice and sat while dd's were busy. Got 1,000 words written. Today, I locked myself in the room and got another 1k. Then, as I was saving it, something scrambled and it saved a whole bunch of gobbledy gook. I lost all my work from yesterday and today.

Can I cry? I'm already 15,000 behind.

I think I'm going to write all night, then go to bed after I take the kids to school in the morning. Whhaaaaaaaa!

Let me know when would be the ideal time to schedule this. I want this one to be at a Starbucks (preferably on Saratoga) where there is no internet access.

This one is special for all those that are behind or haven't started. I encourage all those that are ahead or up to date to show up and be a part of the cheering section. This is what nano is about, a support group, A TEAM EFFORT. This is the point at which you reach down and pull your team mates up the next step of the mountain. Let's rally behind our wrimos!

Hand writing your novel

For all of you handwriting your novel and wondering how you will validate at the end of the month here is a brief explanation of your options.

1 Type it up. This is a good way to go back and pad words unless you have an overwhelming compulsion to edit.

2 Have your ML (Philosopher or co-ml Ensis) validate for you.

2a - Type up only one page of the paper you're using. Let's say your handwriting fills up 250 words on one page of notebook paper. Divide 50,000 by 250 and you get 200, meaning you need to write 200 pages of notebook paper. It's possible to cheat and start writing bigger but this is an HONOR system.

2b - If I or Ensis decide you have met your count we will send you a document with exactly 50,000 words of jibberish. You may upload that document.

WARNING: If you choose to go that route be sure to give yourself PLENTY OF TIME before deadline to type it up or to hear back from your MLs about whether we will vouch for you. In an extreme case you can upload a document of jibberish yourself but we ask you to please be honest about your count estimate.

Wish you many inspired writings!
ACK and CRIKEY and Son-of-a...

I have been out of town. Just got back in today and I swore, swore, swore I was going to work. But what am I doing? Screwing around with shizzy ON the nanowrimo website... Just in case yall were wondering, that is not the same thing as ACTUALLY GETTING SOME WORDS down. Anyway, I am thinking about giving up since that would of course be easier, but I am very tired and also experiencing whatever the driving equivalent of jet lag is, so I thought i would just actually post my plans to quit so that I could realize how foolish such a notion really would be! Tomorrow, maybe I will write words.
A Few More Write-Ins, and ML APPRECIATION DAY!

I hope everyone's novelizing is going well :) As for me, I'm just waiting for the day next week where I throw my hands up and decide that my novel is useless and I'm useless and everything is useless and I just give up.

But before that happens, I figured I may as well schedule in a few more write-ins! So there's one tomorrow night (Thursday) at Coffee Waves at 7:30 PM, I will probably be there till nine or so even if no one else shows up because I just seem to get more writing done there, away from distractions.

Then I schedule another one on Wednesday (the 11th) at the same time, though I have absolutely nothing to do on that day and will probably be spending way more time there than is healthy or rational.

And I also wanted to make another point - Sunday is ML appreciation day! So don't forget to let our lovely MLs know how much we, you know, APPRECIATE them!

Okay, I think I've rambled and procrastinated enough for now. Good luck everyone!
Poll: Blank Page or Outline?

I think the title says it all. It's just a poll for fun to find out how many of you will be blank paging it and how many are outlining.

My plan was to outline but I got really busy trying to wrap up another novel before NaNo begins. Now I only have a vague idea that I'm thinking of chucking out the window at the last moment.
Howdy!

I've been wanting to NaNo for the past three years but something always came up. I finally decided I need to try. If I make it, great, if not - oh well, I'll be farther along than if I hadn't tried.

So...
My novel is the second of a trilogy. I finished the first about 2 years ago. Went through a couple edits then life exploded (that happens with four young children) and I haven't gotten back to it.

In bk 1 a secluded mountain village meets the 21st century.

In bk 2, an anthropologist travels to the village to observe (but has orders not to interfere) as the leaders decide what part they want of the "Lowlanders" and how the transformation will take place. A medical emergency places the anthro in a position of choosing between saving a life and saving her study.

And that's as far as we go. I'll probably bounce back and forth btwn the little boy who is suddenly thrust into the world of technology via the hospital, and the village. I don't do well with outlines. I know if I'd had to do one for the first book it wouldn't have made it past the third chapter.

I look forward to meeting all of you.
----------

Post your Inspiration!

Here we all post up some stuff that makes us laugh, cry, or just plain feel like creating something.

I'll get the ball rolling with something I saw on family guy recently:

Also, here's my youtube channel where I make nonsensical schizophrenic parody cartoons. If you like that sort of thing...

What are some of your ideas?

I know we still have a bit to go before NaNo starts up, but I'm already beginning to plan out my story ideas. So far, I have two:

A Speculative Fiction taking place in a world that mirrors ours, but the landforms, nations, and people are far different. Monarchies and Republics are seen as the most "successful" governments around, and the tech can be seen as around the 1940's -- 1950's sort of timeframe, though Aircraft Carriers, rockets, and Assault Rifles (STG 44 was an Assault Rifle that the Germans had.) haven't come around yet because of the lack of need.
In their year 1968, they discover a very cold continent, on which an old Empire resides, by the next year that old Empire has used captured documents from the exploring ships and sent an invasion fleet in a holy crusade.
The entire story will center around the invasion and eventual fall of the 'Old World'. The characters will mostly be on the side of the Old World, however.

The other idea I have is Science Fiction story. It's about the year 2076, and the World has seemingly united (Though politics and little 'Corporate Wars' occur quite often) so it can progress into the Stars. Mars has a fully functioning system of colonies (with a whole host of problems) and a Moon Base that spans quite a bit of the surface.
Within this world, I can do two or three things --
1.) My original idea was an experiment gone wrong, they give the Main Character immensely powerful mental abilities, giving him something like Telekinesis (I call it 'Force') but instead of manipulating objects, he's manipulating nearly tangible things. He can lift objects, send them flying, cut through the air (when nothing is there) fire things that nobody can see, and with the power be able to have a force of a little under a ton. His limit however, is 100 Yards. Past that point, nothing his power does can do anything (unless of course he flung an object) to anybody.
He'll escape and be on the run, fighting pursuit and trying to assimilate himself into a society he never knew existed.
2.) The second idea that occurred to me was a sort of horror thing. On Mars, they excavate the tail-end of a ship that must have crash landed before Man was even born, and so they send an investigation team in. As they go along, they'll start losing members of the team (about 20-25 strong at the start) until finally they try to make a break for it to get out, and in their panic become lost.
3.) A just sort of social thing with the son of a Corporate Higher-Up going to an 'Academy' isolated from the rest of the world. He might have a romance, he might get caught up in a competition there (called "War"), or he might try to escape or any number of things.

So, if anyone else trusts people enough to post their ideas as well...?
And which do you guys think I should really plan for?

----------

USA :: Texas :: Corpus Christi
