Just wondering if anyone still attends writeins etc.. I can almost spit on the Kava House so I try to go there early. Good luck everyone. Doesn't matter if you are writing for the NaNo, for yourself or whatever. Just write.
High Schoolers

Hey all, I'm a senior this year at a high school not too far from Dayton. This year will be my fourth year doing Nanowrimo, and I'm definitely excited about it! The first two years I went solo, but last year I got a couple of my friends to join in doing it with me, and even more decided to go for it this year, which is also very exciting. I was just wondering how many other high schoolers from around the area are doing Nanowrimo.

My friends and I are planning on doing some six-thirty a.m. writing sessions this year at Starbucks or Barnes and Nobles by the mall right before school, as well as quite a few after-school writing places at places to be determined. I was wondering if anyone had any similar plans, or if they needed a supportive writing group for this year ^_^
Thanks for a Memorable Journey

Just less than an hour before NaNoWriMo ends for this year. ... As a first-time participant, I truly enjoyed discovering what I could achieve with the challenge of writing a 50,000+ word novel. I started this with the intent to finish, no matter what, always being inspired by what NaNoWriMo was about---getting your creative juices flowing. I haven't done that in a while, and although this seemed like a marathon of sorts, it was definitely worth it to realize that novel-writing was achievable---something that was intimidating to me before. Of course, it helped that my Husband and Daughter were cheering me on, and I thank them so much for their patience with me!

It has been great, you guys. It was inspiring to see and get to know the other writers around the area as well. I hope to be able to do this again next year. Good luck in all your endeavors as writers! And most especially, congratulations to EVERYONE who persevered and did their best. :)

I hit my 50k word mark and actually have a completed story arc. I realize now that there was one loose end I forgot but who cares now. I will worry about it later. I'm so happy.........
Greetings

Hello there, Dayton,
It's another year. I can't believe how quickly it's passed. It's been a year of changes.
This is my third NaNoWriMo. I have two different ideas that I may write about this year. The first is another novel idea in a series that has possessed me the last two years. Or I may write down the different happenings in my life that lead me to this point in my spiritual development. I'm not sure which it's going to be yet. But there's less than a month to get it figured out.
I can't wait to meet all of you again this year at the different activities. I hope that school will allow me the time to get out of the apartment to do some writing.
Love and Light,
One last push

Hello gang!

That time of year where I turn into a cheerleader. I was unable to attend any of the write-ins this year due to surgery and stuff. But even that setback, and school, and work and family did not keep me from finishing my third consecutive NaNo ahead of schedule.

But...I would strongly suggest that anyone who is able to attend tonight. Why? Well, the creative and nervous energy of a group of people cannot be denied. You will cross the 50K line tonight. The only thing stopping you, is you. It's Friday, it's cold outside, it's perfect writing season. And if you need help, the Loft has a lot of mojo just waiting for screens to land on.

So, geterdun...you can do it! Just write. You don't have to end your story, just cross the line.

Hang tough...don't give up...you started this because you thought you could finish it, so make it happen!

Thus endeth my pep talk....enjoy the clack-clacking of your brain as it churns out a literary marvel.

Allen
Congratulations Everyone whether you 50K'd or not!!!!!

Remember -- it's the process of doing it that counts. You can't learn to ski without someday sliding down that mountain with the wind and snow in your face. And you can't learn to write novels until you put in the effort to churn out the words. And later, work them around like a lump of clay until they say what you mean.

So if you've collected any word count at all -- congratulations!!!! That's more than you would have done without Nanoing this month! You've taken a step toward learning HOW to do what your heart has been calling you to do all these years....
and if you 50K'd -- then WOW! You're on your way!

Thank you for being a compatriot on this exciting November Odyssey!

Sincerely,
FYI Ongoing local writing groups

There's a group that meets at Panera South, Sunday nights -- ask Deivyd the Dayton ML.

And a group of serious novellists who meet for scheduled critique on Thursday nights. Express interest on the forum, and they might contact you.

As for me, at the Fairborn "Loft"' or "Karen's Studio" -- I want to get together in February to share our manuscripts, after we've done our best to clean up our drafts. Just for a readers response, not editing or critiquing, necessarily. Send me your phone and personal email address if you want to be notified when that happens. -- Karen T.

North Dayton Nanoers?

It seems like there are a lot of new people joining this year and I was wondering if anyone else was from the Northern Dayton area. Until now there haven't been very many of us, not really enough to have any meeting places up north. But how about it? Anyone up in Englewood, Huber Heights, Union, Vandalia and such?

For write-ins there's Flavor's Eatery in Englewood, and the Panera on Miller Lane, just south of I-70 on I-75...and I'm sure there's more that I just don't know about.
FINAL WRITE-INS

Today (Thursday) 3pm Emily is opening the loft for an emergency write-in.

I'll be there after work at 6pm.

At 6:45 many will head over to the Greene at Books and Co. (upstairs at the tables) for that 7:00 write-in.

FRIDAY FINAL HOME STRETCH WRITE-IN
Emily will open the loft at 5pm, and we'll write until midnight if need be. There's wifi across the street, so you can send it into the word counter.

Friday is a write-in not a party. The party is Saturday night.

Even if you've completed your word quota, you can still come and keep working on your novel Friday night. It's going to be the most prolific write-in ever, as you ride the intense energy and focus swirling all around you!

*********************************************************
See further posts for February novel-sharing plans!
The idea is to get your rough draft in as clean and finished a form as you possibly can by February. Then we meet and decide on a schedule of passing the manuscripts around. We're not editing or even critiquing it for you, just giving you "reader feedback" and the satisfaction of knowing that several people have actually read your book.

If you want updates on this or any further activities at my place, please send me your name, regular email and phone, and I'll keep you posted!

Upcoming Write-Ins?

Is anyone planning on coming to a write-in? My counts are starting to slow down, and I'm thinking a write-in would really help. I've not been able to get to one before, so I'm really looking forward to it. But I'm specifically looking for the companionship of fellow writers, not just sitting in a coffee shop by myself :)

I'm thinking about the ones at Panera or Books & Co. at The Greene. Who else is coming?
Visual Eyes at Midpoint Meltdown

Yup, I'm still up, too see if I can do better on my word count....
Anyway, I finally decoded the chicken scratch (read: handwriting) I made on my sheet of paper during the game of 'visual eyes'. So, to Ann and anyone else who might be interested to know, it's "bounce around". I thought the " b " was an " f ". Do you think I get a point for that? :)
Enjoyed the game. Josh, your 'circular logic' made you a winner. :P
Nice party, everyone!

Livemocha language stuff

The other night at the Writer's Loft, Karen and I were talking about language learning, since we both have characters who aren't speaking their first language in our Nanos, and I mentioned this site called Livemocha that I've heard about. It doesn't offer a whole lot of languages yet, but it still looks pretty cool, and you certainly can't be free.

http://www.livemocha.com/
MIDPOINT MELTDOWN - Fairborn Writers Loft (Friday, 16 Nov)

So by popular vote I'd say, we're going to have the Midpoint Meltdown at the Writers Loft in Fairborn! We are planning to have pizza. I'm not sure the toppings. I'll have someone who knows about pizza post that. I'm allergic to cheese and don't know a thing about the stuff. We do ask for everyone to please bring a few bucks to throw in for the pizza. Cokes will be supplied.

We have ping pong and a few other games planned and I'm sure you can grab a table to write! So come on out and join the fun. I think we're planning to kick of at 630ish with pizza around 7.

Directions: Fairborn Writers Loft 1&1/2 S. Central Ave., Fairborn Oh 45324
The door is under the green awning. Near the corner of Central and Main St. in downtown Fairborn.
Around the corner from the Newsreaders bookstore.

Please post if you have questions or comments!

Ninety-Six

So, currently Dayton places in at #96 on the regional wordcount leaderboard-thing.
Which is pretty good, I guess, because, Dayton isn't a capitol city, and we do seem like a smaller region, not a main metro area.
But, who here thinks we could be doing better?
The leaderboard calls our average word count in the 11k's, but I think we could kick ass and bring it up.

Who here's ready to kill Seattle?
How are the word counts coming along?

I know I'm doing "okay" by my standards. I've been able to keep the 2,000 words a day thing going but I really hoped to be near 15,000 by now. Oh well...10K isn't too bad.

How's everyone else doing on their word count goals?
Anyone interested in starting a writer's group?

Hey there,

I live in Huber Heights and one of my friends is a writer as well too. But I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in maybe starting a writing group geared towards begining to intermediate writers? If you've been published before wonderful, but if not (like I am presently) that's okay too. Not sure when we can meet or how often, just wanted to see who would be interested in doing this. I think for now I'd like to focus on those writers in the North Dayton/Huber Heights area. If you are interested drop a note this way and let me know, otherwise hope you all do well with the NanoWrimo! I got past 10,000 words myself!! WHEEE! Now for 20,000!

MIDPOINT MELTDOWN! **NEED FEEDBACK ASAP**

Okay guys,

We need to figure out where we want to have the Midpoint Meltdown! Below are the suggested ideas and places. Please post a vote. If we decide to have it at a restaurant I'll need to have an accurate count for reservations as this is on a Friday!

Places suggested:

La Rosas

BD Mongolian Barbecue

Olive Garden

Logan's Steakhouse

Rancho Grande (Mexican food)

(Note, all the above have alcohol on hand, most have a full service bar)

Writer's Loft in Fairborn - This would be a pot luck like the kick off party if we have the party at the loft.

If you have someplace else you're dieing to go to, post it and we'll consider it. Otherwise, vote for where you'd like to go! I need to make this decision probably by Monday night. Thanks, and keep up the great writing!
