We wanted to make sure you all knew about the third-annual NaNoWriMo Night of Writing Dangerously Write-a-thon. This noir-themed noveling event will be held from 5 PM to 11 PM on Sunday, November 22 at the beautiful Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco!

Hello there!

When my 10-year-old daughter announced a few months back that she wanted to write a book, I said "well there's always NaNoWriMo." She was sold instantly on the idea, with one catch: she didn't want to do it alone! So we are each writing novels this month. Yikes!

Anyone else have a kid who is writing this month? I'd love to be writing buddies and share strategies for making it through the month together. We are both first-timers!

Sundays at Le Bateau Ivre In Berkeley

Hi There, NaNoWriMo-ers!

Is anyone for a five week extravaganza at Le Bateau Ivre in Berkeley on Telegraph ( adjacent to Adronico's)? I'm thinking every Sunday from 11:00 a..m. to 1:00 p.m.? Le Bateau Ivre ("The Drunken Boat") has free wi-fi, good breakfasts; not-too-high prcies.

That would be November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

I'm one of the orignal 21 NaNo'ers, have paricipated about three times, won twice. Need a support group this time! Still don't kow what the story will be, but hope to figure this out soon!

Just look for the short girl with a black hoodie staring longingly at the X-Treme Pizza sign. I'll also have my copy of No Plot No Problem as a sign. :D

Saturdays at Cafe Milano

I (sadly) work evenings during the week and can't make most of the planned meetups in the area. I'm writing every Saturday evening at Cafe Milano for 2 or more hours starting at 6 PM. Anyone want to join in? I'd love to get a group going. I'll probably be downstairs wearing my NaNoWriMo '08 shirt. I use a battery-operated word processor so power isn't an issue with me. I guess outlets may be scarce.

This is my first year and I am notorious for not finishing projects. I am looking for a group, but I just can not make the Wednesday thing at Panera. Previous commitments. Any one interested in something in Livermore on another night. I could always go to Dublin or Pleasanton as well. The library is open here till 9 and there is a great food/beer place that's open till eleven.

Let me know folks thoughts.

What's the write-in landscape look like for this year? Last year there were some at DVC and at least one that I attended at Berkshire Books out on Clayton Rd. I seem to recall Clayton Books was novelist-friendly as well. Everyone living in Mt. Diablo's shadow, say "howdy!"

of mice and east bay wrimos

Last night at the map and mingle, we got this idea from Rabbit5 who wrimoed in Seattle last year. The Seattle wrimos bring rubber duckies to whatever cafe they're writing in to identify themselves. We thought it'd be neat for us East Bayers to do something similar...so we came up with toy mice.

Feel free to adopt the same habit...the mouse can be of any color. They're easy to get at pet stores, or if you have a cat, wrest it from your little one's claws.

Impromptu San Francisco FiDi (Financial District) Write-ins!

Hey, everyone. (First off, I hope this isn't an old topic!)

I know this is a little last minute, but I'm putting it out there any way if you can do it.
I am going to be doing my own little impromptu write-in in the SF FiDi (I work there).
If you work out here, here's where we can meet...

WHEN: Today, Thursday the 5th (and possibly other days during the month!) @ 1:00 PM
WHERE: The "Bamboo Garden" (Outside of MIXT GREENS on 560 Mission St near 2nd)
There are some tables to sit at (assuming you find empty ones!). We can also sit on the
concrete steps or ledges closer to the grass/bamboo/water fountain.
WHO I AM: I am the Filipino guy with the faux hawk, using a black Dell Mini.

Cafe Milano has issues: Cafe Trieste is awesome!

hi,

so after the map and mingle event, i realized that cafe milano has issues. of course, no place is ideal, and those of you who still want to meet up at cafe milano on tuesdays, feel free.

but i'm not going to be there with the extension cord and power strip. setting that up, weaving the cord through a tree and fending my way through stressed out cal students cramming for biochemistry, plus the awful parking was just too much for me. candace (the berkeley based ML from last year) apparently made this work and didn't mind it, but I don't want to take it on.

so...if you want cafe milano on tuesdays, be warned that the set up is a bit much to get enough power. or you could charge up before hand.

I just checked out Cafe Trieste on Piedmont in Oakland, and that place has:

1. TONS of parking. a LOT, people. and by that i mean, a parking lot right behind the place. (plus street parking) and it's free after 6.

2. EIGHT outlets in two locations, on the SAME FLOOR! (no balcony dropping tree weaving action here!)

3. good food

4. good coffee

So I think this is going to be my nano haunt, toy mouse in tow (see my other post, "of mice and east bay wrimos"). (sorry for the double posting)

If I can get a few people on this thread to say "hey yeah I'd like to be at Cafe Trieste on Tuesdays from 7-10!" I will feel justified in sending a message to the MLs to add that to the calendar.

Last year we had a regular mid-week meet up at Cafe Milano that was really helpful and fun.

I can't do Wednesdays this year, but how about Tuesdays at Milano? I can bring the extension cord and power strip. Thursdays also works.

Walnut Creek write-ins, where are you?

I know the kickoff party was here in Walnut Creek, but I haven't seen anything involving write-ins or anything of that nature. This is unfortunate, because I'm already thousands of words behind.
There are roughly a dozen coffee shops here in the downtown area, and a couple diners, and... me. So what's the plan here, people! Let's do this! Inspirational speech! Training montage!
