Sorry about tonight!

I went to Borders around 5:30 and EVERY table in the place was taken. I sat outside and tried to keep peeking in to see if anyone showed up or if a table became free, but the screens were down so it was hard to see.

If anyone came out tonight, I apologize for not being there! I ended up feeling a little sick and went home about 6:30.
Extra Write-ins

I will be going to Border's for extra write-ins other than the Sundays as scheduled. If anyone else is interested, let me know so I can expect you :)

If anyone requests these times as well, i can do during most of the day during the week and at night on some other days. Lots of people feel that it is best to progress with others doing the same as it helps to relieve stress and it has also proved more productive and effective.

Interesting Things That Happen at Write-Ins

First of all it should be said again while you are in a public place for a write-in there is an endless supply of novel fodder. Raise your eyes for just a moment and there is something that can change the pace or even a dull spot in your novel into something fantastic.

For example: I attended the write-in last Sunday and found myself at an "island" table all to myself far from any outlet. It disturbed me but not enough to stop writing. I started at a full battery and figured someone would move eventually. And move they did. But of course it was no where near where I was sitting. So I had a choice to make: so I literally started running toward an empty table next to an empty outlet with half of my things on the opposite side of the cafe.

Once there I almost ran into two little old ladies who saw the open table and were making their own slow dash at the same time. Arriving at the table, the kind thing would have been to just let the ladies have it, I already had one. But wait! I already had one. So why not let them have that 'island' table so I could have the one with the outlets since I had the laptop and they only had a book between them. So I suggested it in the kindest way possible that perhaps they'd consider the other table in lieu of the outlet one (which was taunting me by now.)

The answer:
"No. The other table is just to big for just the two of us."
Hmmm?
"But I'm only one," I said. (Still in my indoor voice.)
"Yeah..no." Was the answer I received.

So with half of my things in hand, I walk back to my island table to count the minutes until my battery died and I'd have to leave. But wait. The little old ladies were so shocking to me that I couldn't stop the laughter from within and I thought of the best way to get back at them. Why not write them into my story. So I did! It turned a slow spot in my story into something hilarious. At least it was to me.

Besides, shortly there after another spacious table next to an empty outlet opened up closer to where I was sitting. But this time when I made the move I was 2,000 words ahead of where I planned to be.

Like I said, you never know what can happen at a Write-in. It might just help your story :)
Palm Beaches vs. Ft. Lauderdale!

Just wanted to let you folks know that our Palm Beach County crowd is off and running on this challenge... with one day down and twenty-nine to go, I see the following stats:

Palm Beaches: 117,004 words (3,342 per Wrimo with wordcount)
Ft. Lauderdale: 48,812 words (1,952 per Wrimo with wordcount)

The word count widgets are still not working at the time I'm posting this, but when they are, I hope our progress chart will be shown in this thread:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3385077

I hope this friendly competition motivates all of us in both regions to meet our word count goals - everyone keep up the great work!

Re: Jane Yolen

OK, this message is for the lady at the kickoff who was talking about Jane Yolen's books--I'm sorry, but I didn't get your name. The two books by her that I've read, which I was trying to remember the titles of, are "Sister Light, Sister Dark" and "White Jenna". (just looked it up on www.janeyolen.com)
Had you read either or both of those?
Head Count for Kickoff/First Write-in

I know a lot of municipalities do a kickoff pre-November to just meet and party, but I'm thinking let's meet on November 1 at Borders in Plantation, out by Sawgrass Mills, from 1-3 pm. Bring your computers or notebooks or whatever you're writing on, and I'll bring some NaNo swag and, and we can begin writing fiendishly!

If you could sound off here if you plan to attend, so I know how many goodies to bring, I would much appreciate it!
