This is the official thread for our official events! Please check this often to see what we're doing, when we're doing it, and if there are any special instructions.

Please don't reply directly to this thread - we'd like to keep it easy for everyone to see what's going on and when something new has been posted.

Just tried my hand at something new.

I just uploaded my banner and I am not sure if anyone can see it. I have never made one before so am curious how it turned out. I can see it on my novel info but not on replies yet so if I am doing something wrong I am open for someone to guide me on how to do it right. Thank you so much!
Super dooper schmooper big idea

With apologies to Sid the Science Kid.

Today is the NaNo fundraising driving! We're aiming for 100k... sure, it's an insane goal, but this has never been an event where people do things in any fashion one could describe as sane.

I just made a donation myself! Now, we already have a 23.64% donation rate... how awesome would it be if we could hit 50%?

Already have a halo? Donate it to someone else! All you have to do is put their username in instead of yours, and you can still get your regular goodies. I already get a halo because of being staff, but I know of someone else in Macon who didn't have one, so I donated it. :)

I'm getting a window cling...I can't wait.

So toss us a few bucks! Broke? You can still help! It's okay! We have ways to help with that, too. Goodsearch (whichcosts you absolutely nothing) raised over $2k last year! You can even start a sponsorship page, just like with walk-a-thon participants, and get your friends and family to help!
The forces of nature are conspiring against me!

That's right my attempt at Nano and I are the targets a major conspiracy to prevent our success. I have had the flu, a sinus infection, earlier this week an eye infection, and now I have a child with the flu. Having all of this crude is the reason I have not attended any of the meet ups. I lost around 1200 words when I was so out of it on cold meds that I just dumped them.

Oh, I feel a little better now that I have whined about it. I am hoping to use the Thanksgiving holidays as a write-a-thon. Needing to write is also great excuse to avoid awkward long conversations with family! So, I'm off to suck it up.

My New NANO Goal

I'm pledging myself to something very eccentric. I'm going for 50K by 3:00 PM on Nov. 20.

Reasons: I want very badly to win 2009 NANO, with a worthwhile novel (as I thought 2007's was, except that in two years I've lost some copies and what I retained wasn't complete). Then I just discovered, or realized, this afternoon that the three older grandkids have not 4, but 9 days total, vacation from school for Tgiving: Nov. 21 – Nov. 29. Well, that's a potential loss of 9 days' Writing Time, as it's difficult to Write in a household of 5 adults and 5 children, ages 11 months to 10 years, and my only computer is a reconditioned desktop in my daughter's living room. The children's bedtime is 8 PM, so no computer use after that; and I usually try to escape to my separate quarters when they arrive home at 3:15, as my babysitting day (which begins at 7 AM on weekdays and 5 AM on weekends) is usually over. I may have to start (THE HORROR! THE HORROR!) writing in my bedroom, in illegible longhand. (O please O Writing Angels, deliver me from that!)
I don't have a working laptop so couldn't participate in a write-in, don't have transportation, and babysit all day 7 days a week. Whee! So my determination must be cranked up to Intense to do this. I will.

Not as well as I hoped

I didn't do as well as I thought I would have done. I did catch up a little but I didn't get ahead. But I did get some well needed rest which will help keep me fueled for more writing as well as maintaining my night job and keepinng up with my son. I am just wanting to make sure to keep myself going to complete this novel. This is the most I have ever written and I won't lie it fills me with a little bit of pride in knowing I have come this far. Have a great day everyone and I wish everyone good luck with their upcoming word counts!
This has to be a first for NaNoWriMo...

While I was working on my novel last night, I was letting a baby flying squirrel that I'm rehabbing play around in my room. It was perched up on the curtain valance above my computer desk watching me work. Suddenly it jumped (glided) down and landed on my laptop keyboard. It typed the word byg. I'm leaving that in my story!

I hope the "rule Nazis" don't turn me in for breaking some obscure rule about collaborating with a non-human.
Mooselings Gear!

I know that many of you enjoy the official NaNoWriMo gear that you can get here at the site, but I also know that many of you love our mascot, Mickey. This year, we've created a CafePress shop full of Mooselings stuff! You can find it here: http://www.cafepress.com/mooselings

Enyoyable Write-In

I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the write in at ABC Thursday. It was the first we've been able to attend this year and it was nice to have so many come. It was exciting to see a couple of new faces (Yay!) and also a couple of others we've missed from the past year or so. I hope you all come back again and that we can make another write-in :)

We're looking forward to the mid-month meeting :) Macon Mooselings are most excellent and so are our Municipal Liasons!
Thursday Write-In Reminder!

Today is our official weekly write-in at the ABC (Atlanta Bread Company) in Warner Robins! We'll be kicking off some timed writes at 6pm and will go till around 7pm, but everyone is welcome to stick around and socialize afterward. :)

I'll be wearing my day-glo yellow ML shirt, so we should be easy to spot. That and the laptops should give us away. ;)

Hope to see you there! And if you need directions, there's a link to Google Maps in the Calendar on our main region forum page, or you can ask here.
Non-Depressing Shout-outs

I went to the main "shout-out" forum this morning and my excitement at reaching 11k in three days was quickly deflated by the titles I read there ... one of which was 25k! Clearly some people are single, childless, don't eat or sleep, and are adept at manipulating the space-time continuum.
Anyway!
First - I wanted to extend a deeply grateful shout-out to Violet for making my unbelievably spiffy new banner (first year I've ever had one, I feel almost official now!) ... you are the bomb-diggedy, and I'm not just saying that because I love your shoes.
Second - Here's an enthusiastic shout-out to Miri and Danie for keeping me on my toes and at my keys ... I promised myself I would keep up with them this year and they're giving me quite a run for my money. Since I am the most non-competitive person I know in every other area of my life, this is unusual and exhilarating and fun. Thanks, guys!
Mid-month Gathering

Maybe I am asking a little early, but what is going on with the Mid-Month at Violet's house. Is it still going on? When do people need to RSVP by? Will directions be sent? Have been looking forward to it and need someone to tell me I am not losing my mind (more than normal anyway).

Another thing, is it going to be a party party, or a get together to write and chat party like the write-ins?
We're going to use that tool again! If you'd like to be included on this graph, just post to this thread. If you'd prefer not to be included, don't reply to this thread.
Unofficial Wednesday Write-In

Extremely last-minute, I know, so my feelings won't be hurt if no one else shows. ;)

A couple of my school Mooselings and I will be hanging out at BAM in Warner Robins for a couple hours tomorrow, starting at 1 PM. Taking advantage of the holiday, y'know. If anyone else happens to be able to drop by, we'd love to have you! Hopefully we'll get more done this time, because I really need to.
The Best Birthday Give I Can Give Me/Mini-Writing Retreat

This Saturday is my 36th birthday. I had said at the first of the year that I would write my first novel by my 36th birthday and now it looks as if it's going to happen (HOORAY!!!!). I have managed to get both Friday/Saturday off work (Two days in a row...Haven't seen that in awhile) and since payday lines up with it I have decided to rent a cheap hotel room with a microwave/fridge, cable tv, and a nice huge soft bed. Not leaving the room til I have to go to work Sunday (Bringing my own coffee pot and carton of cigarettes). There is only three things I am doing. Sleeping, writing, and taking a bubble bath where no one is banging on the door "MOM!!!!!"-LMAO.

Hopefully I will be able to get in eight hours of writing each day (Not in one sitting of course) and be able to get a little closer to that 50k that I desire if not surpassing it. That is going to be my ideal way of welcoming my 36th year on this earth!!!!!!! Plus by doing it this way there is no risk of a hang over or feeling bloated from too much b-day cake-LMAO!!!!!
The Sanskrit Phenomenon

So this happened to me last night, not for the first time but it always amuses me somewhat, and I was just curious if anyone else had experienced something similar in all their own times with NaNo.

I was lying in bed, minding my own business, when suddenly my muse began kicking me in the shins. "Wake up! You have a story idea! Lots of words! Quickly, to the computer!"

Outside of November I may have just ignored it, but these days, I'll take everything I can get. So off I crawled, through the deepest recesses of the night, to squint at my computer screen until the wee morning hours. I felt like I got a good bit accomplished, nearly an additional 1000 words that I looked forward to posting once I was a little more coherent. Except now, here, past the crack of noon, staring at the fruits of my labors, this may as well be written in Sanskrit (hence the title, haha!).

I mean...I think I know what I was trying to do, but...wow. This is rough even by NaNo standards. So I'm glad the story has progressed, but it seems that this evening, in the time that would have been spent writing these 1000 words, I will instead be editing them to make them actually fit into the story in such a way that I can continue building off of them.

Commiserate with me, Mooselings. Have you all had your own brushes with the completely incomprehensible?
