Can you please read my exert of my novel and tell me if you think I can make a novel of it or if it will turn into a short story that will be saved on my computer for five years and then deleted?

It reads like it could be the start of anything at this point. What you'll do with it will be primarily up to you at this point, I'd need more of it before I could say anything definitive, outside of "Do you feel the passion to continue with it?" If not, put it aside (one way or another), but if you do, just follow it and see where it takes you.
