Yeah, am I alone? Cause I actually secretly prefer editing my novel to writing it.

Not only is it fun to read your novel, but it's also fun to add and take away details, and generally make the story better.

Anyone else?

I don't know that I prefer it to the writing, but yes, I enjoy editing. In the writing I'm concentrating most on story and character. In the editing I'm concentrating most on the language, trying to tell the story as effectively as possible. So it's a whole different thing and doesn't feel like a chore to me.

I like to plan the story out pretty well before I write, so the plot might need some tweaking after I'm done, but not too much. That way I really can concentrate on the language when I'm editing, rather than doing a lot of rewriting of plot and characters. If I have to do that I really do feel like I'm going over old ground and throwing out stuff I've sweated over, rather than refining and polishing my work. More planning = less editing (generally)

lol No, that's not very weird. I enjoy editing too. Probably not quite as much as writing, but nearly...some of the time. (Let's be honest, sometimes it really annoys me, but I think it's just because I'm angry at myself for not writing certain sections better. lol) I have offered to edit my younger sister's writing projects for school and things, just to give her slight pointers on them later so she knows how to do better next time, and it's a lot of fun. I really enjoy reading her stuff, trying to make it better.

Maybe you're a future editor. ; ) ??

Editing is very much like working on a puzzle. It works your brain and keeps you interested the whole time.

I like all modes of writing...

The writing, the editing, the submitting, the rejections, the rejections, the rejections (times that by about 100) and when I get there, the promotions, meeting the fans, etc.

Otherwise I wouldn't be a writer. I do have a compulsion to edit the title of this thread though...

I despise editing - most of the time. I wish you could write a perfect first draft. But then...where's the fun in seeing it grow?

Ugh...I don't know. :)

*raises hand*

I enjoy the editing process. It's like getting a second chance to make your manuscript the absolute best it can be. Who wouldn't jump at that opportunity? :=)
