So about a year ago, I made an "18 Things to do Before I Turn 18" list. I dug it up a while ago and while some of them probably won't be possible at this point, one of them I thought might be doable was to hit 1,000,000 words before my 18th birthday.

I'm 16 and a half as of July 17, so I have almost exactly 18 months left. I've got 688k or so written (over my entire lifetime thus far), meaning I've got somewhere in the area of 312k left - about 6 WriMos plus a bit extra.

NaNo > JanNo > April Fools > Jul/AugNo > NaNo > JanNo (or half) = 300k if I hit 50k for all

The 12k should be easy to get in short stories, and I'm sure I'll get more.

Holy crap - I can DO this!!

Anyone else setting a ridiculous goal for themselves, and realizing, hey, maybe this isn't so ridiculous after all??

I think I'm already over a million...

50+30+110+200=390K, and that's just the Nanowrimos...

30+30+15+10+5=60K (poetry, songs, short stories)

25+35+5+10+13+25=113K in novel starts

And 19K yesterday. Plus all the blogging, let's give that one 30K, and fanfic, we'll go for 20K:

632.

*Blinks* I was sure I had more than that. Maybe my counting's off somewhere... O.O

Oh well, I'm in for Uber-Nano, and AugNo this year, and I'll match you in 312 by your eighteen months.

In fact, I'll double it.

In 18 months, I'll write 624K.

This is an interesting way of thinking about a lifetime of writing. But I don't have stats on a lot of work, published and unpublished, that I did over many years. Still, I've added up what I've done in the past four years, including three books and other items, and the total is about 450k without counting hundreds of contributions to message boards and blogs.

The cool thing is that 270k is just in the last 12 months. I am getting faster. I am writing more the more I write, as has been noted elsewhere.

I'm not committing to one million words in a year or two. But I am planning two completed novels and many shorter articles and other pieces per year. I'd like to get it up to three novels per year, but make them publishable quality. That raises the bar.

Good luck on a worthy goal.

Kateness is going for a MILLION IN A MONTH...

She is insane.

I'm not counting RPs. If I did, that'd be like... 500K...

(I've RPed a LOT in seven years ok?)

Thank you everyone. :) I've decided to probably aim for this, and if anyone wants to stay in touch and possibly be writing buddies in the long run, I'd invite you to send me a message, because I'd love to take you up on that.

This isn't including forum posts, journal entries, and emails, of course - if it was I already would have hit 1000k. :) It's purely novels and a few short stories at the moment. If I want to get more exact perhaps I'll go back and find the exact wordcounts, but for the moment it's as close as I'm going to get.

Thanks for the encouragement, all.

Ok, if I want to achieve this, then I've got to write about 1 000 words a day.

Houston, we have a problem.

Or at least I'm beginning to regret what I said.

Never mind about regretting - this is going to be fun!

.... or maybe I'm just crazy.

internet_jumble: no regrets. One step in front of the other. You can do it.

Good luck to all who are doing this!

If I counted the RP posts I'd be WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL over a million.

I honestly have no idea how exact any of mine are.

But I'll still write the 624K.

And I will add you.

Thanks Twilight!

I'll add you two too:) This is going to be awesome! I've figured out that if I want to get to a million I have to write 200k a year. This is going to be purely novelness, so no school work, etc. That means I've got to do four NaNos.

I can do this:D

Yes.

Yes you can.

I wouldn't have to write very much every year to get it before I'm 18 but I'm just going to be a little bit insane.

I might try this, but it'd be suicidal. I've only got about 300k right now total. I'm 14- 700k/ 4 years - busy lifestyle = probably not happening. *scowls*

No, I'm sure you have time. As long as you pace yourself and just concentrate on it, I'm sure that at 14 you can write 700k in 4 years. The six-hundred-whatever-thousand words I've written has been in less than three years; I discovered NaNoWriMo at age 13, and you're already further than I was.

If you want to, I'm sure you can. :)

855K in 4.5 years for me. Certainly possible, and it'll mean I start writing more than NaNo and Screnzy, which is good.

My add up so far is:

2 NaNos, one of which I got very close to winning with (would've too, but someone died, and there was hospital stuff, and funeral stuff, and such. DX) and one that I won with: 45K+51K=96K
2 Screnzy, both of which were won: 20K+19K/100 pg.=39K
Odds and ends: 10K

So altogether, 145K. Pretty pathetic, I guess, but I shall truck on to one million!

Edit: Of course, NaNo and Screnzy are almost certainly givens, so that means 330K more that I'll be "required" to write. 525K to go, then!
