I passed the 50,000 word mark. Now I have just a few thousand more words to finish up, weeks of editing, and then I'll post it over on

with my other writings. (Never did finish last years story, even though I reached the 50K word goal :-(

Sorry I missed most of the write ins. It was strange, at the end a new character just showed up. I have no idea what her role will be but it is one of those things that I enjoy while writing.

Word count widgets

In case y'all haven't seen today's breaking news, the word count widgets are back! This time there are a few additional widgets, like the regional word-war widget. Check 'em out!

Here's where we as a region are at:

If I get a chance (ha!), I may try to put together a series of individual word-war widgets so we can see who among us is streaking toward that magic 50,000 word point. (And perhaps that will inspire me to get off my butt and write some more instead of hanging out on the NaNo boards. :-p )

BTW, did you know that last year, Goodhue county had one of the highest per-participant word counts in the *world*? Are we going to let them kick our butts again this year? I think not.

worst year for me ever

this is my third time doing nanowrimo. the first two times were tough but i stuck with it and kept up pretty well. on rare occasions when i did fall behind, i was able to catch up pretty quickly.

this year things aren't going so well. almost every day i fall further behind, and on days when i don't fall further behind, i'm usually not making up any ground either. i'm about four days behind as i write this, and with my tight schedule i'm not sure if there's ever going to come a good free day where i can spend a lot of time catching up. :(

just wanted to share a little of my nanowrimisery with the group. how's everybody else doing? pretty well, as far as i can tell.

I think I have "hit the wall"

In spite of thinking about it all day long, I'm now sitting at my computer thinking about all of the other things I really, really need to be doing and thinking about needing to sleep SOMETIME tonight.

And then I get upset with myself for being only five days into this and locking up. Which isn't helping the creative process.

Random Stuff

Hey guys and gals (or gals and guys if you prefer), just a couple quick things:

Last year, we had a prize for the first Rochester Nanoer to finish their novel. We've decided to do that again this year. The goodies this time will be Chris Baty's No Plot? No Problem! Novel Writing Kit. It comes complete with an abridged version of his NO Plot? No Problem? book as well as a button, a certificate, stickers, and some motivational flash cards. It has been attractively packaged in a cool book shaped box.

NaNoWriMo is supported by voluntary donations from participants. The cool part is that it is totally voluntary and nobody needs to feel bad if they take part and simply cannot afford to offer up some dough. Hey, we've all been there. Still, there are other ways to help out. By using a charity-oriented search engine, by taking part in the Author Sponsorship program, or forwarding the proceeds from an Ebay auction to NaNoWriMo, you can take part too. Check out this link for more details.

Remember, you have permission for the entire month of November to write whatever comes to your mind without editing or critiquing yourself. Typos? We worry about those in December. Formatting, grammar, consistency, plot holes? They're next month's problem. This month, all we have to worry about is letting the raw story inside us explode out onto some form of writing receptacle.

Rochester Kick-Off Party

This will be officially my first year living -in- Rochester (moved from Preston up here into an apartment, northside, this June), so hopefully I'll be able to make it to the kick off event, and any write-ins, etc.
