So, most of you have heard of how my mother has taken off with the Young Writer's Program in her school and her class of 4th graders. Well...follow the link. The Article says it. It can also be found in Tuesday's paper!

I can really attest to how exciting it is for those kids.

I also know that they're planning to have a book-binding party. So much fun!
TGIO

Well, it's that time of month--the end. :(
This brings me great sadness, mainly because I'm about 8,000 words shy of finishing my novel, but also because it means our journey and write-out fun is about to end.
We need to celebrate our accomplishments! All of us--whether we finish or not!

This is where you come in:
Tell us where you would like to meet up for our TGIO!
We're thinking a Sunday meet-up at Camille's in Lancaster or Me & Ed's Pizzeria in Palmdale.
Drop a line to tell us your preference, and let us know if this weekend (Dec. 2) or next Sunday (Dec. 9) works better for you!

Oh, and write! And keep writing until you finish!

AV Events Calendar

So, last night I got really frustrated (again) with the speed of the site and I decided to create a calendar that you can access (usually much quicker) than the forums here. The purpose of the new calendar is for us to have a central place to post dates, times, and locations of write-outs so that we all (hopefully!) get out and work with our fellow Wrimos which is a proven method for Nanowrimo success!

You can access the calendar here:
http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=v4alacc2ijsfg2lql1hg4d3tmo%40gr...

Not much on it yet, but set up a bookmark and check back often. Additionally, if you want to host a write-out somewhere send an email to lancaster_ca at nanowrimo dot org or palmdale_ca at nanowrimo dot org and we will add it to the list. If you plan on writing out a lot, send us your emails so we can give you editing access to the calendar!

November's almost here! :headdesk:

Translated Auto Summaries

Ok so last year I know some of us posted auto summaries and it was rather funny. I tried that with my novel this year but it was not so funny. So then I put it through a translator. (I used http://www.rinkworks.com/dialect/dialectt.cgi)

Post yours because I need to procrastinate more.

Here's how to do it : Have your novel open and up at the top click on tools then Auto-summarize. Make sure you click the box that says "Create a new document" and then chose something small (like 100 words or 10 sentences). You should now have an Auto-summary. Then copy and paste it into a translator tool and share it with us.

Here's the Cockney version of my novel so far. (I think it's a vast improvement.)

Robert didn’t fink she 'ad. Robert weren’t disappointed. Robert’s lunch arrived quickly. Robert mumbled under 'is breaff. Robert knew 'e sure didn’t. “Cop out Robert! Struth!” Robert could definitely 'andle reality. Robert recognized 'is muvver’s voice instantly. Robert recognized 'er immediately. Umm, yor son, right, Robert.” Robert didn’t 'ave a look at 'is muvver. “Robert, guv? Me Robert …?” Robert 'ave a looked up at 'is muvver, init? “Robert, isit?Robert followed 'is muvver inside mechanically. “Right, Robert. Will yer Robert?” Robert’s muvver turned and 'ave a looked at 'im. Me baby Robert.” Robert checked the pantry first. Cor blimey guv, would I lie to you? Robert knew this. Oh, and Robert, isit?So Robert waited.

How's the Novel Going?

This thread is for you to share what's happening with your novel. Tell us your plot ideas and successes. Or complain about your main character if you need to.

Has anyone had a genius moment yet? Like when suddenly your plot just fits and everything makes perfect sense? Share it with us.

So far my main character has decided that he's a little bit of a hypochondriac, which just means that I'll have to throw him into a hospital waiting room during flu season when I need to boost my word count.
Mr. Inspiration

Okay, those of you who are NOT at Camille's RIGHT NOW, you missed out on an old friend.

Earlier this year, during Script Frenzy, we often ran into a man at Camille's who was there to use the wi-fi. He's somewhat... eccentric... and would approach us and ask questions and really just engage in unsolicited conversations. And he doesn't seem to really retain detail of the conversations, because he once asked me about my career in fashion. I have never had nor discussed a fashion career with anyone, including this fellow.

And maybe he's just a lonely older man looking to converse with young ladies. But tonight he screamed at his computer and cursed the lack of signal in Camille's. This is odd, because there are at least three wi-fi signals to be found when sitting in Camille's. He just sat there sighing, I think maybe waiting for one of us to offer assistance to his dilemma. But neither of us wanted to say, that the problem was either him or his computer. So he just left in a huff like a thirteen year old girl.

Which, you know, is excellent fodder for any novelist to transpose into words.

AND THAT is what you're missing.

Inspiration, straight from the source.
AV NaNo wind-ups!

Hey it looks like I'm the early bird of the Antelope Valley! It's good to be back at NaNoWriMo looking to get into the crazed novel-writing fun for another year!

I don't want to steal the thunder of whoever is going to be moderating this forum, but I guess I'll start with an introduction! I think a good way to start is an introduction!

The name's Briana and this is my second round in NaNo. Last year I pulled it out with an idea I was sort of rewriting, but this year will be harder as it's completely new territory! I will be trying to bust out a continuation of the plot I had last year. This time, however, I have no outline or previous attempt to go off of. It'll be crazy! Well i have lots of ideas at least.

Other challenges might be the fact that I am now working a substitute teaching job, the holidays and going to school! AHH!!

Still, I am pretty confident. @_@

Now your turn!
Write Out Locations

Hey everybody. This thread is for us to list our favorite spots to write at in the Antelope Valley.

Some info to include: Location, Wi-fi access, is the place friendly to NaNo-novelists, and why you think it would be a great place to write at.

For example:

Camille's (In Lancaster on 15th W)
It has free wi-fi and lots of power outlets. Also they have great food, comfy couches, and enough room for us to spread out with our laptops. Plus, one of our writers reached her 50,000 word at a write out there last year.

What are some of your favorite writing spots?
