Clarksville/New Albany/Corydon Area?

I'm from near Corydon, and I'm curious on if we got anyone on this side of the river who's Nano'ing this year? Be awesome to find someone to hang out with, maybe carpool with to write ins in Louisville, as that seems to be where we always gather. Or if someone is interested in setting up get togethers on this side of the Ohio, I'm more than willing to help out with that.

Report One Thing Your Character Did Today

Not sure if this will catch on through the course of November, but I thought it might be fun if we popped in here each day to describe one thing one of our main characters did (or didn't do) each day.

It could be something he/she thought, took action on, didn't take action on, refused to do, etc., etc.

It could be the most important thing he/she did or didn't do.

Or it could be the least important...

Or it could be the funniest thing...

The craziest thing...

The dumbest thing...

The most dangerous thing...

The scariest thing...

The most romantic thing...

No descriptions needed - just the act (or non-action) itself.

For example: "Fred decided not to pay her."

Currently, one of my main characters is in pre-production getting his costume fitted, ...hair, ...make-up, ...ready to make his debut on day 1. Today he decided he didn't want to wear a lab coat -- too stereotyped.

What did your character do today? Describe one thing...

I hail from Attica, but basically the only thing I do here is sleep. All of my other activities take place in Lafayette.

Grant County writer's group all welcome

Write Turn, our local writing group, will meet 6-7 p.m. Thursday (Jan 24) in Meeting Room A in Marion Public Library, corner of Washington and 6th Street. Parking is free and behind the library.

Local writer Cathy Shouse will speak on getting published. Her articles have appeared in Saturday Evening Post, Indianapolis Monthly and other publications.

Grant County area

Hey Grant Co and Marion area folks Pegleg Kitty and I want to let you know what's going on in our area.

There will be open meetings for those NaNo'ers in the Grant Co area at Marion Public Library on Thursdays from 6pm to 7pm. (excluding Thanksgiving)

Marion Library has wireless internet access and free to use research rooms available for research or a quiet place to work. They will also be offering children's NaNo workshop on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30.

There is a writers club already established and open to to any one interested and will be meeting Oct 25 at 7pm. Everyone welcome. :)

Any Purdue students joining NaNo?

Hi everyone! I'm a grad student at Purdue; any other Purdue students doing NaNo this year?

I'm an international student from the Philippines, and I've been doing NaNo since 2004. Thanks to NaNo, I got published - well, self-published, but published nonetheless if you ignore the "self" part, hehe. Anyway, I'm hoping to continue and still get a novel out, despite stats, sociology, EDPS, and seminar (gasp, gasp).

So, any other West Lafayette, Purdue people in here?

Some potentially good news

My novel, "Pakwa," which I wrote as a result more or less of my participation in NaNo, has been given some pretty high marks on authorlink.com, which may or may not bode well for its future. It can't hurt.

If you don't know about authorlink, it's a component in the marketing process, one worth at least investigation.

The story wasn't one that I was high on after I did it last winter and I let it sit for the summer, finally read it again and decided it wasn't half baked. So I decided to run with it. It's one of a few that I have in my box of goodies.

So here I am... taking up the Nano challenge for real this time. (hoping)

Two years in a row I've meant to dive in. Both years I became swamped with new work from clients. Other than one screenplay I have yet to start/finish for a small production team, I think this might be the year I actually get enough time to apply to Nano.

Any other Hoosiers from the Northwest out there? Pop in and say hello. Would love to hear from you!

Hello from Noblesville! I was just wondering if anyone else in Hamilton County is doing NaNo. I write all the time, and I'm in the process of querying agents for a YA sci-fi, but I decided to sign up for NaNo this year to get the first draft done on another manuscript... or try to get it done.
So, if you're from Hamilton County, what's your story? Did you sign up for fun or to motivate yourself? Do you think you'll finish?

Hi there! I didn't see a thread ofr Indinapolis are writers, so I thought I'd start one! I'm writing from work, downtown, and currently am residing on the east side. How is everyone doing so far? I just started this morning - heard someone talking about nano this weekend, so I thought I'd participate for the first time in 4 years. I finished the first time but the second time I didn't because my brother passed away. This was something he supported me doing every year so I am making the effort to try and complete it again this year. Hope all of you have your pencils sharpened, pens ready and computers charged up! Fort Wayne write-ins

Hello all! Because there isn't a specific Fort Wayne region(!), I'm going plug the Allen County Public Library's NaNoWriMo stuff here.

The Main Library will be hosting Open Writing Lab times for NaNoWriMo throughout November, as well as some classes in using Google Docs to write your novel and access it from any web-connected computer.

NaNoWriMo Open Labs:
Sundays (November 4, 11, 18 & 25) - 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm
Mondays (November 5, 12, 19 & 26) - 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
Thursdays (November 1, 8, 15 & 29) - 9:00 am to 9:00 pm

The library's set aside a room for us, so we should go check it out! I'll probably be there from 4-7 or so, but the room's available until 9pm.

I hope to see some of you out there so we can share tips, brag about how much we've already got done (or lament the first wasted hours of November), and tuck into some jammin' beginnings. If we can build enough interest and community this year, then perhaps next year we can really make a go at having a good group!
