We have a blog?!

Things were slow on the site this past year, and I've gotten a lot of emails about the information posted here not being accessible.
For the rest of this year (the whole 4 days we have left) and for the future the Shoreline region has a blog. I'll post everything there as well as here. Check back throughout the year, and we'll see if people want to continue the writing momentum that November has produced....

NEW ENGLAND WORD WAR CHALLENGE!!!

To add a bit of excitement to these boards I’ve accepted a challenge from Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

It’s a word count match and you HAVE to help.

The bet is that Connecticut can accrue a larger total word count than these other regions as well as a higher total word count be writer.

How it works:
1) Respond HERE to let me know that you want to participate by NOVEMBER 7th.
2) I will do a word count of the writers that respond/want to participate on November 10th, 17th, 24th and 30th.
3.) There will be two categories 1- total overall word count and 2- words per wrimo.
4.) If you do not update your word count at least once two weeks, you will be dropped from the contest.

Last year, for total word count, Maine ended in 49th place, New Hampshire was in 18th, Vermont was in 65th and we were in 57th place.

Now let's kick some butt!

TGIO PARTY - DEC. 2 - AUNT CHILADA'S - HAMDEN

THANK GOD ITS OVER PARTY!

When: SUNDAY - December 2, 07 @ 1pm
Where: Aunt Chilada's in Hamden
Website: http://www.auntchilada.com/

About the venue:
This place serves American/Mexican food. It is easy to find (on Whitney Avenue off of route 10). Parking isn't a problem here either. They have a bar, huge lot and an outside patio, not that we'll be using the patio in December.
I've spoken with the manager, AManda, and we've been promised to be seated in the Cantina (upstairs) where there is a pool table and 5 TVs. If enough people respond, we will have the room to ourselves. We will also be ordering off of the menu, and it is located online here: http://www.auntchilada.com/menu.nxg

Why you should come:
You've busted your butt for the past 30 days. Whether you wrote 10 or 100 or 100,000 words, you deserve a celebration! Families are welcome.

RSVP here or by email. I do give out stuff at the party, some of which is personalized - so I really need people to let me know if they are coming to this.

Any other questions, just ask!

Hope to see you all there!

-Lizzie

How old are you?

How many years have you been participating in NaNo?

How many years have you won NaNoWriMo?

Do you plan on participating in NaNoWriMo 2008?

Did you attend a write in this year?

Did you attend the kick off party?

Are you planning on attending the TGIO party?

How were the locations for the write ins? (Both the convenience of the location and the setup of the location itself.)
Panera Bread, Hamden

Panera Bread, Meriden

Panera Bread, North Haven

Panera Bread, Waterbury

Would you rather have the write ins:
__ Move around the city to various locales, even if it means somewhat less than ideal setup and further to travel for some of the write-ins.
__ At a central, comfortable location even if it means traveling further for some of the write-ins.
__ No preference.

What did you think of the email pep talks? Were they helpful? What would you change about them? Were they too frequent/not frequent enough/just the right frequency?

What did you think of the Connecticut::Shoreline regional forum? Is there anything you really enjoyed? Anything you'd like to see changed? How often did you visit the regional forum? If you didn't visit very often, what could be changed to make you more likely to visit? (Uh, aside from the very obvious "make the damn site work." They're working on that!)

Would you rather see more writing events or more social events?

What could be changed to make you more likely to attend events?

Was there anything that we had in previous years that you really missed this year?

Is there anything else you think your ML should know?

Writers Conference in Fairfield this Sat 12/1--any Nanoers going?

Just curious if I will see any Nano-ers at the Writer's conference/forum this Saturday at the Fairfield Public Library. Not sure what I have gotten myself info, but it seemed clandestine,...following my stumble onto the Nano site, so I am giving it a go. Sing out if I will see you there!

Just hit the 50k mark and I'm heading to bed... Gonna slow down my hectic pace now that I've reached my goal for 50k in a week. Thought I'd start this thread. Here's hoping that all of you will get to celebrate here!
Hi, I'm from Atlanta, and I wanted to let you know that we are going to CRUSH you in donations. (Yes, that *is* a challenge!)

According to the scoreboard, you're currently in second place in donations. We're in third. By a measly $145. And unless you do something about it, we're going to raise the money and beat you.

Are you just going to take that?

It's the last day. NaNoWriMo is still $50,000 short of its goal for this year, and 95.2% of its users haven't given anything to the site. Unless we Wrimos rise to the occasion, the YWP and NaNo sites aren't going to get desperately needed upgrades for next year. If you've gotten something out of NaNo but haven't donated yet and can spare a few bucks, please, give a little something back! I'm flat broke, but I'm still going to try to do everything I can to give something, even if it's only $10, by the end of the day. If I can do it, so can you. And besides, do you really want to lose your second place ranking? Come on--show us how it's done! Put us in our place! Or we'll put you in yours. ;)

(I probably should have done this before now, but unfortunately, it didn't occur to me sooner!)
The DAY newspaper I need bodies

If anyone has ever thought of crossing the line and visiting us in Mystic CT, next Monday night at 7 pm at the Mystic Noank Library would be a good time.

I need bodies for an article for The Day Newspaper. Here's a copy of Leslie's email

Hi Marie,

I have a favor to ask you. I write for the Day, and my editors are really interested in a feature on the local nanowrimo group (which is you and yours). They actually want two -- one relatively soon, and the other after all is said and done and written to see who got to 50k and who didn't.
They'd also like to send out a photographer to the 11/19 meeting at the Mystic Noank library to get some photos.

Is all of this okay with you? What I'd need you to do is to send out a broadcast message to see if anyone is interested in talking to me on the record about nanowrimo. Please give them my work email: l.rovetti@theday.com. I'll make arrangements to interview people from the email. I'd also need to interview you.

How does this sound? Okay???

Thanks for your help!

I am taking this space to thank my husband (who by the way will never see this) for cooking a wonderful Thankisgiving Dinner for our family today.

My wordcount went up by a lot today for while he cooked the bird and slaved in the kitchen (he even made pecan pie), I could sit and write my novel.

So here is to all the wonderful husbands and wives and other supportive family and non-family members who allow us to go through with this crazy endeavor every November.

Please share your own thank-yous here.

Writers retreat

One of the best weeks of my life was with Gary and Gail Provost in
Bristol CT at the Writers Retreat Workshop. So I pass this along as
there is a week in Litchfield.........

Marie

November 19, 2008

Dear Writer,

A quick reminder that Writers Retreat Workshop 2008 (May 23 through
June 1, 2008) has an early registration discount available again this
year. If you pay a deposit, you'll save $50 off regular tuition, and
paying in full will save you $100 if you register by DECEMBER 1. While
not all of our guests have yet to be confirmed, we will welcome the
fabulous author Nancy Pickard (2007 Agatha winner and Edgar Nominee)
back to WRW for the first time in a few years. In addition, our
fabulous WRW core staff will return to challenge you in whatever stage
you find yourself in your writing career. Visit the retreat page for
more information and registration details:
http://www.writersretreatworkshop.com/retreat.php. Many other guests to
be announced in the weeks to come.

In addition, for those who still have time to make plans to join us for
the WRW Fall Retreat (begins in one week!), we still have a few rooms
allotted to us remaining. This is our first time at the lovely Wisdom
House, and we're looking forward to spending time in the glorious
surroundings while making a last push on our books-in-progress or
walking the grounds dreaming up the next breakout idea. You'll have
THREE full meals daily, a private room, and nothing but time to write.
WRW staff will run daily 1-1 brainstorming/diagnostic sessions, but
these are completely optional (and included in cost). No matter your
dreams or needs for the week, the magic of WRW and the Wisdom House
combined will offer all you want and more. (And the early holiday
shopping options in Litchfield, CT are not to be missed!) For more
