Things were slow on the site this past year, and I've gotten a lot of emails about the information posted here not being accessible.
For the rest of this year (the whole 4 days we have left) and for the future the Shoreline region has a blog. I'll post everything there as well as here. Check back throughout the year, and we'll see if people want to continue the writing momentum that November has produced....

NEW ENGLAND WORD WAR CHALLENGE!!!

To add a bit of excitement to these boards I’ve accepted a challenge from Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

It’s a word count match and you HAVE to help.

The bet is that Connecticut can accrue a larger total word count than these other regions as well as a higher total word count be writer.

How it works:
1) Respond HERE to let me know that you want to participate by NOVEMBER 7th.
2) I will do a word count of the writers that respond/want to participate on November 10th, 17th, 24th and 30th.
3.) There will be two categories 1- total overall word count and 2- words per wrimo.
4.) If you do not update your word count at least once two weeks, you will be dropped from the contest.

Last year, for total word count, Maine ended in 49th place, New Hampshire was in 18th, Vermont was in 65th and we were in 57th place.

Now let's kick some butt!

About the venue:
This place serves American/Mexican food. It is easy to find (on Whitney Avenue off of route 10). Parking isn't a problem here either. They have a bar, huge lot and an outside patio, not that we'll be using the patio in December.
I've spoken with the manager, AManda, and we've been promised to be seated in the Cantina (upstairs) where there is a pool table and 5 TVs. If enough people respond, we will have the room to ourselves. We will also be ordering off of the menu, and it is located online here: http://www.auntchilada.com/menu.nxg

Why you should come:
You've busted your butt for the past 30 days. Whether you wrote 10 or 100 or 100,000 words, you deserve a celebration! Families are welcome.

According to the scoreboard, you're currently in second place in donations. We're in third. By a measly $145. And unless you do something about it, we're going to raise the money and beat you.

Are you just going to take that?

It's the last day. NaNoWriMo is still $50,000 short of its goal for this year, and 95.2% of its users haven't given anything to the site. Unless we Wrimos rise to the occasion, the YWP and NaNo sites aren't going to get desperately needed upgrades for next year. If you've gotten something out of NaNo but haven't donated yet and can spare a few bucks, please, give a little something back! I'm flat broke, but I'm still going to try to do everything I can to give something, even if it's only $10, by the end of the day. If I can do it, so can you. And besides, do you really want to lose your second place ranking? Come on--show us how it's done! Put us in our place! Or we'll put you in yours. ;)

The DAY newspaper I need bodies

If anyone has ever thought of crossing the line and visiting us in Mystic CT, next Monday night at 7 pm at the Mystic Noank Library would be a good time.

I need bodies for an article for The Day Newspaper. Here's a copy of Leslie's email

Hi Marie,

I have a favor to ask you. I write for the Day, and my editors are really interested in a feature on the local nanowrimo group (which is you and yours). They actually want two -- one relatively soon, and the other after all is said and done and written to see who got to 50k and who didn't.
They'd also like to send out a photographer to the 11/19 meeting at the Mystic Noank library to get some photos.

Is all of this okay with you? What I'd need you to do is to send out a broadcast message to see if anyone is interested in talking to me on the record about nanowrimo. Please give them my work email: l.rovetti@theday.com. I'll make arrangements to interview people from the email. I'd also need to interview you.

I am taking this space to thank my husband (who by the way will never see this) for cooking a wonderful Thankisgiving Dinner for our family today.

My wordcount went up by a lot today for while he cooked the bird and slaved in the kitchen (he even made pecan pie), I could sit and write my novel.

So here is to all the wonderful husbands and wives and other supportive family and non-family members who allow us to go through with this crazy endeavor every November.
