For the first time in about three months, i get a saturday off. I know that there arent alot of people that live in my area, but for the few of you that DO live near Mason City, would anyone be interested in meeting somewhere?? Step up, step up! C'mon, get your butts out here and let's see who we've got. I'll even go first.

For those who don't know, I am curiosity. This is my 7th NaNo. I am writing two novels (again) and somewhere between twenty-five and fifty thousand words of poetry (new breed of insanity, here). I also ~~live year-round~~ moderate in the #nanowrimo chatroom on Goodchatting.com for added hilarity. I typically write urban fantasy and marvel at those who write other genres (though chick lit still scares me, sorry). I do semi-regular updates of my progress at http://nanocurio.livejournal.com. My NaNo-addictions are Pocky, tea, and new music.

I'm an ISU student who normally attends Central Iowa Write-ins in Ames and such, but I'll be away from Ames for an entire week for Thanksgiving Break. Would anyone be interesting in finding time in their busy Thanksgiving schedule to have a write-in? I'll be in Oskaloosa and Smokey Row would be a great place. Otherwise, I'm familiar with and open to driving to Ottumwa or Pella, too.

I haven't posted excerpts before, but thought I might this year. Have any of you done it? Do you leave the best bit the whole time or do you keep changing the excerpts across the month? Have you had reactions, comments, big publishing contracts offered, etc?

So I already said I would write more words than I had miles on my car (which is already 66k and I'm sure will be more like 70 by the end of NaNo)... This is how your region gets to screw me.. In addition to my 66k and counting, I will write 500 words about each postcard I get.

Yeah, so if I get 100 postcards.....

I'm totally up for this, and I want you guys to get the word out to all your NaNo people.
This is especially good for NaNo regions where I have dropped, thrown, or flung gauntlets. Go ahead, try to overwhelm me. I dare you.

Someone wrote to take out all of the hypens so that you will have two words instead of one.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I am going to go back through and; spell out all of my numbers, take out the hypens, change compounds, change ECT to Et Cetera.

Someone is even using BLAH to replace; periods, commas. I guess any little bit that helps our NaNo is a plus! :)

Hard to focus

I'm finding it very hard to focus on writing lately. Not because I can't think of anything to write but because my hubby works retail and since we are entering into the busiest time of year for retail stores he has been working even more than normal. This isn't bad it just makes it difficult to write because he works an opposite shift than I do oh and did I mention we have an almost 6 month baby girl.

So every time I think I can sneak over to the laptop to start typing she gets fussy. I often find myself typing "Bella you're okay" which does not fit in with my storyline at all.

Oh well, I suppose she has to sleep sometime, unfortunately all of the household chores still have to get done too.

Creston Write-in 11/14

Hello all -

I am Mary the ML for the Central Iowa region. I wanted to stop by and let you know that the Central Iowa NaNo-ers have scheduled a day time write-in at the Maple Street Memories store in Creston for Saturday 11/14.

As some of you in the area know, Creston is in south west Iowa about 1 hour from Des Moines. The town of Creston has a historic railroad history. It is the highest point in Iowa between the two rivers (Missouri and Mississippi). The write-in location is in a building that was constructed in the beginning of the 1900s. One of our south west Iowa is one of the members of the family who obtained the building and has worked to restore the building to the beautiful site that it is today.

The sisters also have a scrapbook store on the main level. A trophy and coin shop resides there as well.

I understand there will also be a tour of the newest shop set to open around Thanksgiving for those interested.

Let's take our writing energy and share it with our southern Iowa family.

The plan is to arrive at the store around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and we will write until about 3:00. (People are welcomed to leave to take a break for lunch).

Bad Writing?

Anyone else struggling with bad prose? Day one was the worst for me and it has gotten better and better. However, every time I sit down at the keyboard to write I think, "This might be terrible and it will be a waste of time." Does anyone else think this way and if so what are your strategies for overcoming the fear that you really suck?

I made 2433 words today, Day 1. Which is great for me because then I have a bit of wiggle room when life hits me. I've got three busy kids and a full-time job as well as a weekly podcast. I do most of my writing at night. Give a shout on your word count for the day and keep up the good work! I need to get back to reality for a while.
