The Kick off Party is going to be on November 1st @ Panera Bread in Valpo! It will start at 6 PM.

WRITE INS Are currently planned for Wednesday and Sunday. Times and Locations will be determined.

The TGIO Party will be determined at a later date!

Anyway, welcome all! If you have ANY questions, please let me know!

Thanks!

TGIO Party

Okay peeps! We need to start thinking about the Thank God It's Over (TGIO) Party.

As of right now, the only suggestion I have is for:

Saturday December 5th @ Evelyn Bay Coffee Company in Valpo. Link: http://www.asipabove.com/

December 5th would be best for me since I requested it off work. Other than that, I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

So, due to the holiday and my crazy retail schedule I will sadly NOT be able to host any write ins this week.

I am hoping to do one next week for last minute Writing.

I hope this is okay with everyone, and best of luck to all and Happy Thanksgiving!
The contest

Indiana (North) is winning the contest for total words but Mississippi is kicking our patinkum in the per capita count.
Of course, Mississippi is longer than Indiana and takes more time to write, so what's our excuse?
Sloth, I tell you.
SLOTH.

Now, back to the stone and get that word count up there!

Fort Wayne / Greater Fort Wayne Area

Greeting to all people in the Fort Wayne area! I was waiting for this topic to pop up, but then I got impatient.. yes. Patience is a virture that I never really had. What a shame. Like some people, I am also part of the Elsewhere in Indiana region where there is already a Fort Wayne thread started so I encourage anyone here to also join that region so you don't miss out on anything important.

So, lets do a call-out here! Anyone from Fort Wayne should post a little something so we can get to know eachother before the insanity begins in about two weeks.

I attach a great deal of importance to the weather when I write, not to mention that I usually am not writing when the weather is too nice outdoors to be indoors.

Just to add a sense of sauce: After you are done winning NaNo, see if the mood of your story changes from day to day depending on the weather. I have done this in the past and it's odd how the characters react to my real-time life.

So, today, Thursday, November 5, 2009, I will be writing at the Aboite Branch of the Allen County Public Library from about 5pm until around 7pm. I'll try to get a room in the back. Just ask at the information desk if you decide to show up . . .

Indiana University Northwest Students? Anyone?

Are you out there, by any chance?

You see, I spent my Monday breaks putting up flyers for Nanowrimo all over the school, and I'd like to know if any returning Wrimo happened to see them.

Or if I perchance drafted any newbies. I'm typically too busy to make it to Valpo for the write-ins and I thought it would be nice to get some more local people active, or at least to figure out if they exists.

Hello, I'm Ekhi. The mother of Monsters. I'm a junior in college and have previously won Nanowrimo once out of three attempts. I'm natively from Lowell, Indiana, this is just where I go to school

Who are you? Where do you come from?

Is there anyone living in the Walton,Logansport or Kokomo area that would like to meet up once NaNo is up and running?

I think it would be fun to have mini-write-in's and the like.

Let's Write & Eat Biscuits & Gravy @ Bob Evans . . .

Brian here . . .

I plan to set up shop at the Bob Evans @ Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne tomorrow morning. The laptop opens at 7:30a and I'll write until about 9:00 or so. They have a few outlets in the enclosed dining area if you need that. I might bring a strip as well so we could share a table. They have WIFI now as well, so there's that. I spent about two hours there this morning. Very little traffic, and I cranked out 2,500 words.

If you're up for some writing company, and you like coffee and good grub, come on down to the farm and let's peck out a masterpiece . . .
Day 2 -- How's Everybody Doing?

I'm up to 3691 words now! :)

Having trouble, as I imagined I would, with going back and editing as I go along. It started innocently enough when I just went back to read through what I'd already done so I could move forward, and I started changing things around. Which I figured was okay as long as I was adding words! But I don't want to fall into the trap of editing when I'm just supposed to be getting the words out.

Anybody else having trouble controlling his/her inner editor at this early stage of the game?

Music to Nano By

Figured that since some folk didn't know about Pandora, that I'd post a few other sites for aural inspiration.

Of course, Pandora (www.pandora.com), but there is also Last.fm for anyone who prefers that. Much like Pandora.

For those of us gamer geeks (in Hawaii, there were quite a few) let me suggest OCremix (ocremix.org), a site that hosts quality (key word there) remixes of popular game music.

They even just released a full, free album of music (in FLAC, no less) from Xenogears, and it's amazing. (http://xenogears.ocremix.org/)

Anyone else?
Software to Nano By

So what is your essential load out while writing?

For the actual writing itself, I use Q10 instead of Word. It's a free, highly customizable processor, with a lot of gadgets that seem specifically designed for Nano. It has an on screen word count, a timer that after you set it, it counts how many words you typed during that run (perfect for word wars), and for aesthetic reasons, an option to make your key strokes sound softly like the clicking of a typewriter. Kind of soothing. :) I like running it fullscreen, with a black background and blue text. With a black background the monitor isn't letting off light (like with a white one) so my eyes don't dry out as fast.

Q10: http://www.baara.com/q10/

If we're somewhere with wifi, I also tend to use Pandora for my music selection. It's nice because it's easy to set up stations that match the mood of what you're writing about. It was a life saver last year for me.

http://pandora.com/

I've been toying with going to Google Docs, if only to save me endless heartache if my hard drive dies and the added convenience of never needing the same computer to write from. It's Google's free writing program that saves your files remotely, so that you can access and edit them anywhere by just logging into Gmail.

http://docs.google.com/

Just for fun, once the road is far past, a program that Nano pointed out a few years ago is definitely a cool way to see your achievement in an artistic manner. It's called Wordle, and it makes your novel into a collage of words, the size of them based on how often the word appears in your book. It's really neat, and I had my second Nano's collage as my background at work for a long time.

http://www.wordle.net/

Anything you all use or suggest to the rest of us?
